Stay in the Light

Mirror development

Working on mirrors and reflection based gameplay. Your hand mirror will be in the first release and allow you to hold Him from moving. If you can see Him, he can't move, and this also goes for seeing his reflection.

Coming up in the 2nd major release will be positional mirrors part of a larger puzzle gameplay system. You'll find these in the environment and they can be positioned and set to cause certain events to happen. More to talk about that soon.

Nvidia caught notice of the game and was generous enough to send me a 2080ti Founders edition card to do development on. Don't worry, the game will still work great on mid and high end GTX cards, I'm making sure of that. The minspec continues to be the GTX 1060, of course the game will look and run best on an RTX card. Now that I have one, I can fine tune it for the high end.

Release date officially set to June 3rd, 2019!

The first release of Stay in the Light is officially set for June 3rd. It's good to have the release date really nailed down, and this is a firm date.

First off I've been in touch with Nvidia to work on getting the game more support. I can't provide any specifics about that other than to say things are happening, and they're being very kind and helpful to this project. I want to see RTX gaming really provide an experience you can't get anywhere else, and I'm excited to get their help.

The June 3rd release will make the launch a little more robust than was originally planned. Some features were going to be tabled for future releases, and generally that is still the plan, but the first release will have a little bit more in it. In general, I like to do a major release every 2-4 weeks, maybe averaging 3 weeks, and probably a little bit more frequently than that as it starts. This is what I've done for projects I've worked on going back years and I think it ends up being a pretty good pace especially in the indie realm.

What can you expect in the first release? Most of the core game features will be there. You'll have your items (Torch, Mirror and Chalk) and their functionality will get deeper and more complex over time. Randomized dungeons will be in the first release, although not every level planned (expect 6-10 for version 1). I'll give Early Access buyers some controls that may not be in the final, like the ability to turn off the monster if you just want to explore around without the risk of death... and some customized interface to allow you to generate your own random dungeon level and preview the result. It's possible these features or some version of them could end up in the final game too, I think testing and feedback will let us know what the best ideas are.

Preferences may be simple in the first version, but will get very detailed in future releases. You can expect the full range of audio/video/control and gameplay prefs you would expect in any PC title.

Thank you for reading, I hope you really enjoy it! ːsteamhappyː
