Steel Storm: Burning Retribution turned 2 years old yesterday !
Happy Birthday Steel Storm!

A very informative and interesting article about development of Dustforce
I stumbled upon this article, which clearly shows how much money it took to develop Dustforce. This is to answer a question I get asked every now and again - how much money do we need to develop Steel Storm 2 (and when I call the number, lower than $100k, I am told we are utterly unreasonable and greedy).

Steel Storm demo for Windows got an update!
Thanks to you guys, I found out that demo didn't represent the game in the best way due to lack of XB360 controller support in the demo and various glitches.
I updated the demo (Windows only) with current game engine and XB360 controller support plus various fixes to the game code that accumulated since the demo was first released.
Hopefully newcomers can get better grasp of what the game is about and try it out without lacking basic features of the full version.
Engine update fixing (hopefully) collisions
It seemed to be Linux only issue (or at least I couldn't reproduce the bug on Windows), but hopefully this engine update fixes it. There might be some quirky situations where you might want to grind walls and objects to get yourself trapped just for the heck of it, however durung general gameplay there should be no collision issues.
Enjoy the game!
Fall back to CPU skeletal for AMD GPUs (update)
Hopefully last update this time. Owners of older AMD GPUs no longer should experience crashing if GPU skeletal animation is not supported by the drivers. The engine will fall back to old CPU-driven skeletal animation automatically.
Another engine update
Updated engine with a fix for AMD GPU owners. The game should no longer crash if GPU skeletal animation is not supported in drivers (it will automatically disable GPU skeletal feature with fall back to the old method)
NOTE #1: You might have to restart Steam client to get the update
NOTE #2: I have Steam Cloud working, however, if you play on different OS, you will get sync issues and will loose all of your progress (if you play on WinXP and then want to continue on Windows 7, it won't work). So, waiting on Steam to resolve this situation and once it's resolved (I hope it can be resolved), Steel Storm will be utilizing Steam Cloud.
Darkplaces engine that has been powering Steel Storm: Burning Retribution got major update which has trickled down to Steel Storm today!
So what's new? Performance boost! The game runs faster now, especially on Linux. GPU skeletal animation was introduced to Darkplaces recently so that should help performance when you fight a lot of enemies. For those with older hardware - you can disable GPU skeletal using +set r_glsl_skeletal 0 in your launch options.
We got bug report for Steam Linux users that switching resolution crashes the game. This is again related to Steam's Community Over lay. Please disable it for Steel Storm, figure out most comfortable System settings for your game and appropriate resolution. After that you can enable Community overlay again (unless you want to keep on switching resolutions; in that case just keep overlay turned off).
EU official servers got updated accordingly, and restarted. US server are out of service, hopefully temporarily, due to technical issues on the provider's side.
NOTE: Make sure to restart Steam to get the update.
Enjoy the game!
A small patch has been released
I just deployed a small update that sets 2 cvars to a new set of values as default.
Update eliminates a "performance choke" on the second training mission associated with collisions failure and solves "black level" issue for broken Nvidia drivers.
