Stereo Boy

New build: 20230210.3874

First update of the 2023 is a small but meaningful change! We've decided to hold off from collecting user metrics and error reports for the time being, even if you opted into it. No more nag screen about privacy when you first boot the game!

New Stereo Boy version: 20221124.99ab

This latest fix is short and sweet: we made a tweak to level 4.1 (Ocean Rig) to prevent a softlock.

Level progression fixes and more!

Happy Monday everyone! Version is 20221024.a30f is here, containing the following updates:

  • Fixed a bunch of softlock issues in the starting area of 4.1 Ocean Rig.
  • Fixed a softlock on the ramp leading to the the catwalk in 4.10 Temple Grounds.
  • Removed a puzzle-skip opportunity in 4.3 Wide-Field Reactor.
  • Fixed an issue where you can sometimes fall through the level if you enter a cell just before a falling block lands in the same cell.
  • Fixed an issue where you can walk on top of a door that is in the process of opening.
  • Fixed the spelling of the name "Separatist Hideaway".

Who doesn't love an early October patch? (Update 20221008.df58)

Bugfixes! I just love 'em, don't you? Here's what we've got for you today:

  • We resolved a potentially game-breaking bug where patrollers (those are the golden tank-looking things) could get stuck in specific scenarios. Some players said they had to do a level restart as a workaround. That's bad! We fixed it.
  • If you set your health to infinite and get hit by a patroller, the game would trigger one hit sound effect per frame until it no longer detected a collision. That's bad! We fixed it.
  • The Mac build was producing the savedata in a location we didn't expect, which would cause issues if you tried to bring Steam cloud saves from Mac to Windows. (It was fine the other way around for reasons that are annoying but ultimately not that important.) We fixed it.

Also, some of the source code got cleaned up. We've yet to measure the impact on player experience, but it does wonders for our professional pride.

Software update 20220819.1ac7

This is a quick little update, coming hot on the heels of the one we made yesterday. A day-after patch usually implies that we broke something with the previous update, and that's definitely true in this case.

We found a bug that might cause stability issues if you die while pushing a block. We weren't actually able to get the game to crash in these cases, but we thought it would be a good idea to ship a fix anyway.

As always, feel free to let us know if you run into any issues!

Stereo Boy software update 20220812.f5a7

Windows mouse sensitivity fixes

We TOTALLY mangled Windows mouse sensitivity in the launch build! A great way to out yourself as a craven Mac/gamepad user.

Anyway, we turned the sensitivity way down. Hopefully, we were able to dial in something more appropriate for most folks.

Health bump on retries

If you happen to fail a level, the game will now offer to increase your health.

Did you know that you can tweak your health from the settings menu? It goes from 1 HP to 5 HP, plus an unlimited/no-damage option. The default is 3 HP, but go ahead and tune it to your liking. There’s no “right” way to play!

Quit from pause

You can now quit the game from the pause menu. What a relief!

Exit doors are now solid(-ish)

Bullets and pushable blocks no longer pass through the exit door. There's a level or two where this was actually an issue. Hope this doesn’t spoil your amazing speedrun strat!

Those are the important fixes, but check out our devlog for even more.

And as always, feel free to drop us a note via Discord or Twitter if you've got bug reports or feedback.

Big quality-of-life improvements, and a whopper of a bugfix
