Stonetowers is Released

Stonetowers is released on Steam for Windows PCs for $13.99, £10.99 or your regional equivalent, with a 10% discount for the next 7 days.

What is Stonetowers

Will your walls crumble and your people flee, or will your towers stand tall as your settlement prospers?

In this town-building tower-defence hybrid, you control a group of settlers in an unknown and hostile land. You must guide them as they turn the wilderness into their new home.

What’s Next

At least two content updates are coming in the coming months to Stonetowers - the first one will be released later this year and bring with it Winter.

The Light at the end of the Tunnel - Winning (Blog #9)

We’ve been fighting to survive since we first set foot in these lands, but there is an end in sight. With our technology and understanding of magic, we can keep back the monsters for good.

The Shield Generator is the most advanced building in Stonetowers, and building it requires heaps of resources and plenty of time. Once built, the shield generator will charge over the course of several days before activating and keeping out the monsters for good. But things are not as easy as they seem - the energy of the charging Shield Generator will attract huge amounts of enemies from across the wilderness. Ensure that your defences stand ready for the fight of your life on the final stretch to victory!

The Test of our Might - Titans (Blog #8)

Our workers cheer as the walls stand strong and sleep soundly at night under the watch of our towers. But these small monsters are only disordered apparitions of the magic of these lands. Should that magic form into something larger and more powerful than anything we’ve seen, those will be the sights we fear - the Titans.

Titans are huge monsters with powerful abilities that will challenge our defences. Three types of Titans will be included with Stonetowers on release, with more to come in the following free updates.

The Magmatic

The first Titan you are likely to witness is The Magmatic, a towering monster made of semi-molten rock. Its huge legs smash the ground as it slowly walks through your settlement, destroying anything in its path.

The Eldritch

This imposing titan projects impenetrable shields onto smaller monsters near it, allowing them to pass your defences untouched so long as the titan remains intact.

The Monolithic

This titanic slab of animated stone is not only a lookalike of a smaller variety of monster, but seems to be the very source of them. As this titan floats slowly towards your defences, a constant stream of these smaller monsters will appear from within it.

Post Launch Updates (Blog #7)

After release on November 7th, Stonetowers players can look forward to receiving at least two free content updates in the following months!

The first post-launch content update coming late 2018 will feature Winter and all the challenges it presents: dense snow and chilly temperatures. Slow travel and the need for firewood will take valuable time and resources that could be used for your economy and defence. We can only hope that there aren’t as yet unseen monsters waiting for the snow to start falling...

The second content update will come early 2019 and will feature a terrifying new threat to your people, as well as new structures and concepts to deal with it. More details will be announced closer to the time...

Our New Home - The Wilderness (Blog #5)

We find ourselves in an alien place where shadows are cast by magical crystals and unknown abominations hide in the darkness. But here is where we will found our settlement, so we had best get to know this wilderness.

The area surrounding our settlement is abundant in resources and full of geographical variety. Snow-topped peaks slow travel to a near-standstill, while dense forests provide channels for monsters to approach our walls unnoticed.

Freshwater lakes provide vital water to workers and farms, but their sandy shores aren’t farmable and can slow down workers and monsters alike.

On the sides of larger hills you will often find impassible cliffs, but the exposed rocky surface surrounding them are an excellent source of all-important stone.

The countless trees covering the land will soon thin as they feed your settlement’s constant need for wood for construction, research and as fuel. Replanting trees may quickly become a priority as your population booms.

Wild pumpkin patches can be found scattered across the wilderness, providing limited food for emergencies or burgeoning settlements.

A handful of smaller magical crystals dot the landscape, and with plentiful research your workers might be able to tap into them to increase their supplies of magic.

The March of Progress - Technology (Blog #4)

Technology is the key to progression as a civilisation - your workers will have to work hard to research new and improved ideas, progressing from a tiny village to a towering citadel.

All research takes place in the laboratory, a special building within your settlement. As you complete important research milestones, the lab will be automatically upgraded with the latest technology.

You can only have one laboratory in your settlement, and your workers will carry resources there and use them to perform the currently selected research. More complex research topics can be a massive drain on your worker’s time and your settlement’s resources, so make sure you don’t neglect your defences or economy as you chase after more advanced technologies.

You can select the technology you want your workers to research from the tech tree. Your progression towards the current research is always visible on-screen and is accompanied by various sounds and alerts to keep you up-to-date on your progress.

Below is an partially-obscured overview of the tech tree (as of the time of posting). The tree starts at Basic Technology and the 5 milestone technologies are visible around it. Technologies require certain prerequisite technologies to be researched as well as a milestone technology denoted by their border.

The movement between the trees - Monsters (Blog #3)

The sun sets over the hills as workers bustle around your newly-founded settlement. The blue glow of the crystal nexus illuminates farms, houses and their occupants. But something is moving between the trees. We aren’t alone in this otherworldly land.

Your settlement is founded around the crystal nexus and its promise of unlocking the secrets of magic. But your workers aren’t the only ones attracted to the mystical blue light that shines from the nexus. Every night, eldritch horrors brought to life by ancient magics will attempt to break through your defences attack the crystal nexus.

For every day that your town stands, monsters will appear each night in ever increasing numbers and ever more dangerous forms. Be cautious, as some of your more advanced foes might attack you in unexpected ways...

If a monster makes it to the nexus alive it will manage one attack before being destroyed, dealing a single attack’s worth of damage. The nexus will slowly heal itself during the day, but that won’t help if the nexus is destroyed before sunrise.

There are rumours of titanic monstrosities lying in wait, but we will have to talk about them in a later blog post...
