Streets of Chaos

Game being retired soon!

Hey everyone,
I'm announcing that this game is being retired soon, more than likely at the end of the month. It will be removed from Steam for purchase at that point. You can still play it later if you buy it or already own it.

This was an attempt to create a simple, streamlined board/strategy game, and was my first game on Steam for my new company at the time, SimProse Studios. I learned a lot from it, and still consider it an underappreciated title. Poor reviews sunk it pretty quickly, unfortunately.

Thanks to all who supported the game, and see you all around!

Version 1.35 Released!

This is a maintenance fix for Streets of Chaos that has a few important fixes and changes.

- FIX: Corrected a bug that could sometimes cause the game to crash when fighting your secret enemy and losing.
- FIX: Fixed a rare bug that would cause streets to get 'stuck' where you couldn't access them anymore if you had both guys get arrested while taking them over.
- TWEAK: Eliminated the random event where one of your gang would die suddenly for no reason. This will lessen the random nature of the game somewhat and allow players to use their gang more strategically.
- TWEAK: Increased the chance of Pawn Shop items having two abilities slightly.
- TWEAK: Refactored the code a bit to increase speed 4% overall.

Thanks and enjoy!

Expansion now part of the default game!

The Conspiracy expansion DLC is now a part of the default game for the same price - and that includes lots of little changes, big additions and the new faces, along with equippable items for your crew, new game challenge options and more that were a part of the DLC.

Even slightly increased random global event chances and new slightly lower arrest chances are in the this version of the game.

I urge those of you who haven't tried it with the expansion to give it a shot, and please feel free to leave notes and thoughts -- or even update your reviews if you find you like it a little more. If I get enough interest/feedback, i'm willing to devote more time to adding to the game.

Have fun!

Taking Feature Suggestions!

So...if you've enjoyed SOC (or even if you might not have enjoyed it), what would you like to see added to the game as a feature for a possible next DLC? What features would make it a better/deeper/more fun game? I'm listening, and feel free to elaborate as much as you wish.

Leave your suggestions as a comment here, so everyone can get in and leave their feedback. Let's make this the best game we can!

Thanks!

A few thoughts from the Developer to consider

There has been a few issues regarding Streets of Chaos i'd like to bring up, and get everything into the open so players know where i'm coming from. I'll let this serve as my statement on the matter, not responding to reviews any longer unless asked a question on them.

Firstly: Streets of Chaos was intended to be a light, quick strategy/board type game for the PC. It was designed and programmed by 1 man (me) on a tiny budget, as are many of my games. I craft them with a decent amount of attention to detail and I work hard on them, issuing both expansion packs and free patches to make them deeper and better pretty quickly. I always have done this, and am proud of paying attention to the community and making the games better through their suggestions.

But..they aren't super 3D/Unity extravaganzas. That's why its $3 and not $5, or $10 or $20. If you require that to enjoy a game, better to move on to something else. You won't like SOC.

Is Streets of Chaos perfect? No, and I know that. But some recent comments and reviews have just been plain unnecessary, nasty, inaccurate in some cases and based on feedback I got from dozens of play-testers, many of who either work in the industry, write about it or have played strategy games for many years, the comments about "first-year Comp Sci student" and all of that are just plain wrong. It's not "helpful" at all.

Also: of the 41 testers I used on the game, 4 had technical issues that required tracking down and it had 5 reported bugs (4 of which have been confirmed fully fixed as of the 1.1 patch), so the game is fairly solid and stable without significant issues. But Windows is a complex thing -- If you're having issues with the game, i'm always here to help! EMail me directly at: indiegameguy@live.com -- Leaving a nasty thumbs down review isn't the proper response to this situation.

And finally -- give the game a fair shot before you leave a review. That's all I ask really. You can't REALLY know about a game, or a movie, or a play -- or whatever -- in 5-10 minutes, just as you can't know a person just by talking to them in that amount of time. Note that many of the positive reviews here spent 2-3 hours or more with the game, and there's a correlation there. I've had 50+ emails from people since its release that did not like the game the first 5-15 minutes, then fall in and enjoy it after an hour or so.

Thanks for listening and please do try the game out if you haven't. If there's a feature you'd like to see, a part of the game you don't like, if you love it or even if you hate it, email me, and if i'm able, i'll see what can be done. I'm not here for a quick "money grab", i'm here to make the coolest games I can!

Streets of Chaos: Conspiracy expansion released!

Take over the streets once again with this exciting expansion for Streets of Chaos, the strategy/board game hybrid where you become a gang overlord intent on gaining control over the city. The original game, Streets of Chaos, is required to use and play this expansion.

The Conspiracy expansion pack upgrades the game in a number of ways, including:

- All-New detailed gang portrait pics for the gang members to replace the old ones, with improved resolution and even HAIR in some cases. Hey, even a gang enforcer wants to have luscious hair sometimes.

- All-New assortment of game victory options that you can select at the start of a game, along with an enhanced and redesigned game setup screen to display the options properly. You can play to a certain number of Influence points, or take over the whole city, or seek and kill the rival gang member to win. Play the game YOUR way, with dozens of victory option and challenge combos available.

- New Feature: The Underground Pawn Shop allow you to purchase special cyber loot to boost your member's stats (Chaos, Hacking, etc) in various ways. These are randomly generated every game for maximum variety and replay value.

- Tweaks include slightly increasing the chance of certain events like global random events and the hidden gang rival messing with you, changing turn lengths for months to 5 turns to turn over weapons/armor/items/lawyers/judges more frequently, moving the sequence of events so that judge assassinations come before a trial to make it more useful as a strategy, and shifting the icons around the main board screen a bit for better readability.

- Fixes include a text description error on the Lawyer screen where it says 3 years when its really 2 years, rare issues with special victory challenges not being saved properly when saving a game, and an issue where the Quick Tips icon did not go away after 15 turns. NOTE: Due to the amount of changes and additions to the game, older saved games will not be compatible with the expansion.

Hit the streets again and join the Conspiracy today!

Streets of Chaos: Conspiracy expansion out soon!

We're working on a new expansion DLC for the game subtitled Conspiracy, due for release in the next 3-4 days or so.

The expansion features and changes include:

- Newly created gang portraits with much added detail and variety to replace the old ones.
- New Victory Conditions you can set yourself. These can include different types of missions to accomplish to finish a game, therefore changing your strategy. Examples are Claim It All, where you have to take over the whole city to win, and Find and Destroy where you must grab some Influence AND find and kill the secret enemy to win. These along with the Victory Challenges will allow for dozens of custom game setups to suit your mood.
- The above change includes a sharp, freshly redesigned Game Setup screen where everything is neatly organized for easy configuration of your game.
- The Pawn Shop: Now you can view and purchase special cyber items to upgrade your crew's stats, such as Chaos, Hacking and Domination, randomly generated every game and replenished every game year.
- Tweaked the chance of random global events, and various other special events up a bit for a little more unpredictability.
- Moved the Judge Assassination check up before any trials, to make this tactic even more useful.

The expansion will sell for $1.99 when it releases. Look out for it soon!

Version 1.1 Update released!

Streets of Chaos had a quick 1.1 update released today, with some very cool changes. These include:

- By popular demand, a newly added tutorial is now in the game!
- A 'Challenge' mode with special game conditions that can be chosen at the start, including starting at 20 HQ instead of 40, no access to weapons, and more! These should really make the game a challenge for those more experienced with the game.
- Made the early game a bit easier by increasing your starting cash to $2,000 and starting resources by 10 each, and the ending game a bit tougher by increasing the cost of Police Bribing to prevent abuse later in the game.
- Tweaked the frequency of negative random events slightly in the early going to give you a little more setup time.
- Fixed one very rare bug that "locked up" a map square under certain conditions if a guy got arrested while taking over a street.

Have fun!
