It can be a real pain having to rely on loot-crates for a water source. Especially if you're trying to support plant beds and animal housings, as well as your nutritional needs.
Today's update includes the Wellhead; a new craftable item that aims to provide a renewable water-source for players at their base.
The Wellhead is a powered item that can be crafted at the BCU. Once placed in the perimeter of a base, players must first drill down into the ground until a natural spring is exposed to extract water from. Additional power is required to extract the water.
Power efficiency and extraction speed can both be upgraded. I plan to add additional upgrades to tap into extra resources underground (such as oil). Currently the extracted water comes in water bottles. This is simply placeholder until more appropriate water vessels are added. Please let me know if the balancing is off, in terms of power requirements, etc.
Fixes for many other small bugs and exploits are also included in the update. Including:
* Fixed issue where players could despawn ore nodes by interacting with them.
* Restricted weapons being upgraded beyond the 4 tiers per upgrade type (sorry if you had a lvl 10 shotty).
I'm still focused on addressing the crashing that players have been reporting (in particular when pickiung up logs). If you experience a crash while picking up logs/fibers/etc after the patch, I'd appreciate you emailing the log file to subsistence.bugs@gmail.com. The log file is located:
My next focus will be on the Hunters. They are still a very new addition to the game, and much work is needed to add balance and depth to their presence in the world. I hope to make raiding their bases more fun and rewarding, and ultimately put player bases under threat.
Thanks to everyone that's been posting feedback and suggestions in the forum. I've been trying to read it all, and it's been a huge help in tracking down issues in the current build. There is still a long way to go, but I'm excited for the future of the project.
Cheers
Stability (details on update)
Hi guys. Just keeping you informed as things move along. The patch I just released is purely intended to help debug the cause of a crash that many players are experiencing when picking up logs/fibers/etc.
I don't like the idea of pushing patches just to help debug crash issues, but I feel I needed to get this out to the Steam build so I can truly start getting to the bottom of the issue (as I'm still unable to reproduce on my dev rig).
I can assure you I am working on new features alongside this debugging which will come soon.
There were a few small tweaks in the patch (like the Axe only producing 1 ore per mining cycle and reduced light radius of the wood-burner), but this is a fairly boring one I'm afraid guys. Thought it best that I'm upfront and transparent about what's happening.
If you experience a crash while picking up logs/fibers/etc after this patch, I would greatly appreciate you posting the end of the log in the 'Bugs and Glitches' sub forum. The log file is located:
I only need a few players logs to greatly narrow down the cause of the issue.
I've been blown away by the support of the community as I work to fix these issues. It really means so much to me and gives me great hope for the future of the project! Thank you.
Patch notes (exploit fixes)
Hey guys. Another small patch to fix some exploits that many of your were reporting:
* Fixed exploit whereby players could build BCUs, then disassemble them to farm free lock-picks. Now you only get one free lock pick (from the first BCU).
* Fixed exploit where players could store their starting M9 and ammo in a chest, then repeatedly kill themselves and farm M9's and ammo. From now on, as soon as any storage device is built, players will spawn with the minimal survival kit.
Couple of other tweaks:
* Increase the size of the dropped kit crate when players die.
* Fixed bug where weapon mounted in the weapon bench would float above the BCU after the save.
* Potential fix for crash when disassembling base items.
* Added logging for debugging crash-when-picking-up-logs.
If you continue to experience crashes while picking up an item (like logs or scrap) from the floor, please could you post the end of the log file located at: steamapps\common\Subsistence\UDKGame\Logs\Launch.log
Sorry for the high frequency of mini-patches. This will slow down soon once the immediate release issues have been mostly resolved. Then I will move to a more steady (and larger) weekly update patch. I know these bug fixes aren't very exciting, but I promise that new features will be on their way soon.
Thanks for your patience, and helping me track down the current issues in the game.
Patch notes
Hi there! I've just released another small patch. Some details on what's included:
* A potential fix for the crashing while picking up logs and other items from the world. Please let me know if the issue persists after the patch. I'm determined to get this one resolved!
* Fixed issue where animals and loot crates could spawn outside of the map boundaries.
* Fixed bug where bio-fuel can disappear out of the wood-burner after loading a save.
* Made some balancing changes to item recipes. Let me know if any of these seem off-balance.
Thanks to everyone that has been posting feedback and letting me know of issues they've been experiencing. I really appreciate you guys playing through the early access bugs!
Cheers.
Quick update and details on small patch
Hi guys. Thanks so much for posting your reports on crashes and helping to isolate where they may be occurring. It's really making a difference having your help as I work though the issues.
I think I may have isolated and resolved the crash that occurs when placing build items. This is still yet to be confirmed so please do let me know if you continue to experience this (while placing build items) after the patch.
The crash that can occur when picking up logs/fibers/scrap from the world is still under investigation and I hope to crush this one as soon as possible. I know it sucks, and it's a big priority for me.
This small patch includes
* Potential fix for crash during placing build items (as mentioned above).
* Fix for the hud bugging-out during item combining.
* Fixed weapon swapping/unloading exploit that can produce infinite ammo (thanks Jaguar for finding this one and letting me know).
* Fixed incorrect items showing when quick-combining items in storage crates.
* Selected toolbelt slot now deselects if item is swapped with equipt weapon.
It will take a little while to work through all the little issues, but soon I'll be able to start rolling out the larger features I have planned. I'll keep you all updated as thing move along.
Thanks again!
ps. Sorry about the file size of the patch. I hope to bring this down for future patches.
New update just went out
Hi there! Just letting you know the details on the new update that just went out:
Hunter balancing
Players that have been playing for a long time may have noticed the hunter presence gets a bit out of hand, with multiple enemy bases sprouting up across the world. The new system adds a more manageable roll-out to the hunter's presence, as well a limiting how many hunter bases can exist globally on the map.
For those with save games where they are swamped in hunter bases, the new update will removed all but three of those bases. However those three will remain as powerful as they were before the patch. Starting a new game will allow the new balancing for their rise in power.
Stuck in the fence! (Map expansion)
There were some awkward collision issues in certain areas around the edge of the map where players could get caught up in the fence. The issue (at least in the main problem area) should be resolved. Part of the fix for this required a fairly large expansion to the eastern side of the map. The new region includes some fairly distinctive rock formations that should aid players while navigation the map.
Hopefully resolved issue of game not starting for some players
I was missing the C++ common redistibutables for the build in the Steamwork settings. If players still experience the issue of the game not starting, please let me know.
There are still many issues to resolve (including crashing, hud glitches, performance, etc), and I will certainly get to these ASAP. I also have much planned for the hunters as things move forward.
Thanks to everyone for playing. So many of you have been awesome with helping flag issues on the forums. It's going to take time to iron out the issues and create a balanced and fair experience for the player, but we will get there!
Cheers
ps. Please let me know if you experience any issues with the update.
EA launch weekend update
Hi there! Firstly just want to thank everyone that's been playing the game since the launch. It's be awesome to checkout all your different base designs and to read your feedback and suggestions on the forum. It means a lot to know there are those out there that see potential in the project.
There's a lot of work to do, so thought I'd let you know some of the immediate things I'm currently working on, based on the continued feedback you guys have been giving:
Crashes when picking up items
Many reports of this. I know it really sucks! I'll be conducting tests and trying to get to the bottom of this one. It may be a little while until I can eliminate it, so I really appreciate your patience.
Suppressed by hunters
Players that have progressed very far, may have noticed the hunter presence is getting a bit much. I'll be making some changes for the next patch that has a more balanced roll-out to their progression, and how many hunter squads move into the world. If you are on a save where they have expanded across the map, unfortunately this won't remove those squads, although will dial down their ability to build up so quickly. Starting a new game will use the new tweaked hunter spawning system.
Caught in the fence!
Some players may have experienced getting trapped in areas of the fence. This can occur when the fence snakes around the geometry of the map (few problem areas). The fence pieces use a much larger collision plane then the actual mesh. This is used for a system that assesses camping spots for hunter squads. I'm getting this fixed right now and requires that I make an expansion on one side of the map (which happens fairly regularly).
I hope to get the new patch out this weekend. I know there are many more issues that need resolving (including a sweep to increase fps and some hud glitches), and I'll be getting to all of these in time. There's also several new systems in the works to add greater depth to the hunters and what they get up to.
I really do appreciate everyone that's been playing through the early access bugs and reporting on what needs fixing. This valuable feedback is exactly why I opened the EA and i'm truely greatful. I'll try to keep everyone updated as things move forward.
Cheers,
ColdGames
Small animals now yield low quality meat
It was pretty annoying to hunt down a rabbit or a chicken only to acquire some feathers or some cloth.
I've just made a change so that these wild animals now yield low quality meat. Domesticating them and leveling them up will produce much higher quality meat.
Survivors shouldn't expect to survive off wild rabbits and chickens alone, but as a supplement to meat from larger game.
Thanks
ps. Sorry for the larger download size of the patches. I'll be trying to work at getting the download size down in the future.
