It’s the Year of the Super Snake, and the island is ready to celebrate! Discover new Super Snake breeds, tackle three weeks of challenges, and uncover slithery surprises around every corner.
The Pixile team is also back from the holiday break, well-rested and (mostly) recovered from colds, and we're diving back into work on the Super Animal World expansion!
For a while now, we’ve been quietly refining our core features—some of which you’ve already caught glimpses of—like fishing, bug catching, NPC dialogue, and hamsterball racing. Now, those pieces are finally coming together in a cohesive, polished build (or “vertical slice,” as it’s called in the biz). In the coming weeks, we’ll have our first chance to run through the entire experience from start to finish—much like you eventually will. This milestone lets us see how every element fits together so we can finalize system designs, fine-tune how everything feels, and then build out the rest of the content. We’re beyond excited to share more soon, and we appreciate your patience as we wrap up this crucial phase!
We’ve also been brainstorming ways to keep you in the loop on our progress while still leaving plenty of surprises. Whether it’s a monthly newsletter, blog post or a simple video series, we’d love to hear what format you’d prefer—let us know! We’re hoping to have an update on this later in January or early February.
As for the release date? It’s still “when it’s ready,” but the next time we share one, we’re aiming for it to be locked in. Until then, we’re working hard to make sure it’s worth the wait!

Year of the Super Snake Event
Each week brings five new challenges, including three that unlock exclusive event cosmetics. Complete them at your own pace—they’ll remain available until the event ends!
New Super Snake breeds debut weekly in the Research Lab! These permanent additions have no time limit, so there’s no rush—unlock them whenever you’re ready.
Hunt for red envelopes across Super Animal World—they’ll restore a bit of health when picked up and help you progress challenges. Plus, you’ll earn extra envelopes just for completing matches!
Firework crates are scattered around S.A.W. Bamboo Resort—shoot or destroy them to deal 40 damage in their blast radius and grab some extra red envelopes.

The fabled and fearsome Super Yule Cat—straight out of Icelandic myth and freshly CRISPR’d by Dr. Dogna—has joined the Research Lab roster, so you’ll want to keep your outfits extra stylish to avoid its disapproving glare as you complete your challenges.

CRISPRmas 2024 Week 1
Winter’s here in the northern hemisphere, and the island is all dressed up, which can only mean one thing: it’s time for CRISPRmas! Gather round the festive Welcome Center fountain with your fellow Super Animals to celebrate friendship, generosity, peace (for now), and most importantly, the CRISPRmas miracle of genetic modification. Mark your advent calendars as well, because we’ve got three weeks of challenges, rewards, and surprises scheduled for this holiday season.
Santa Claws has scattered candy canes around the map, which grant a small heal and help you progress through some of your weekly challenges. Smashing snowmen (snow animals?) around Thomas’ Tundra will score you some candy canes, too. You’ll even earn them from completing matches!
A new breed has arrived in the Research Lab to deal with naughty Super Animals: Super Krampus. This festive enforcer is the newest breed of Super Goat, and as with all new breeds of Super Animal, it’s a permanent addition to the Lab, so you can take your time gathering its DNA and Super Serum.

Gameplay Changes and Bug Fixes
We’ve also included some gameplay tweaks and bug fixes in this update:
Holding the creep hotkey while throwing a Zip-and-Go now prevents automatic riding, offering more strategic deployment options.
The Menace Bat Wings item is now a neck slot item! If you had it equipped in any of your loadouts, you’ll need to re-equip it.
Weapon swapping animations now take priority over shooting, taping, and drinking. This is to fix an animation issue from v1.9.5 where shooting slow weapons and quick swapping would not show the weapon swap animation.
Removed an exploit allowing the duplication of Zip-and-Gos via swapping throwables while deploying a zipline.
Fixed an issue causing death cancellation when eating coconuts, health fruit, mushrooms, or event consumables during the same tick as reaching 0 health.
Some tweaks have also been made to the Bwoking Dead game mode to improve Zombie Joe navigation as well as final escape zone generation:
Zombie Joe bots now have a higher AI pathing limit, preventing them from becoming unable to find a path in certain areas (such as the northwestern cliffs in Thomas’ Tundra).
A slight collision adjustment has been made in the Super Animal Super Stage conductor’s podium area to fix Zombie Joe bots from getting stuck.
The number of attempts for the game to find a suitable escape zone has been increased, and the method it uses to choose an escape zone has been improved. This should reduce edge cases of the final escape zone’s yellow circle being on water.
With the new year right around the corner and the release of the Super Animal World expansion on the horizon, SAR’s future is looking brighter than ever! The team has been hard at work this year, and can’t wait for all of you to get your paws on 2025’s huge new additions to the island.

We’ve implemented some changes for S.A.W. vs. Rebellion classes around their armor, to help balance them out and highlight their individual play styles.
Heavy I now has tier 2 armor (up from tier 1)

Sniper II now comes equipped with the Bandolier powerup, and has tier 2 armor (down from tier 3)

ICYMI: Zombie Joe Plushies from Makeship
In case you missed it, our Glow-in-the-Dark Zombie Joe plushies are live on Makeship for the rest of October! Each plush comes with a code for a plush emote and in-game bat wings to match the physical ones that also come with the plush as part of the Makeship Menace event. Codes will be delivered to those who purchased the plushies when they ship early next year!
We’re super proud of how these plushies turned out thanks to Cheryl and the amazing folks at Makeship! This is our last major merch item of the year, but if you have any ideas for what you’d like to see in the future, make sure to let us know here in the comments or in our Discord server.

Week 2 of the Super (End of) Summer Royale event is hitting the beaches! We’ve got some gnarly new challenges and rewards to earn, plus a new Super Animal breed that might just rival Super Skunks when it comes to its… pungency.

Meet our two new Zombie Joe plushies (and last major new merch items of the year), debuting today as part of Makeship’s Menace event available throughout the month of October.
Cheryl and our friends at Makeship did an amazing job designing them while we’ve been hard at work on the Super Animal World expansion, so we hope you all love them as much as we do. They come complete with glow-in-the-dark eyes and bones and a set of tie-on bat wings as part of the Menace event!
