Hola compadres! Through the fantastical power of putting in an hour here and an hour there comes the latest update to Super Gosu Cars!
The final vehicle is finally here along with the final driver, putting the grand total to 16 in each category! Feel the exhiliration of acceleration as The Charliot purrs away real hurrysome! Get behind the wheel as the mysterious Kal'Zongor and skid to victory making your mark!
16 vehicles and 16 drivers means 256 different combinations to try out. And with them all being available in 8 different colors that means a ludicrilous (no that's now a real word) amount of 2048 combinations. And taking into account that the year 2048 is only 24 years in the future, trying them all out and beating the game with each combination before then means you need to play the game a lot. Like, better start right now!
New Vehicle: The Charliot
This sleek wheeled feeline marks the last of the vehicles to feature in Super Gosu Cars! Just look at it go!

Finish in any position in any 128 races (Time Trial, Custom Tournament or Grand Prix. Remember: Each human racer in a completed multiplayer race counts as a finish.).
New Driver: Kal'Zongor

Enigmatic racer molded in the gosu. Legend has it the mask worn by Kal'Zongor is inscribed with powerful runes that bestow the wearer incredible skill on the race track. As the developer of the game I assure you this is purely legend. No truth in it what so ever! ...or is there?
Kal'Zongor is not available by default and must be unlocked. To unlock them you must:

[Scene: A lone game developer is standing on stage looking nervously at [strike]the crowd ... empty room ... you!]
Ah, there you are! Hi! Long time no see. I, uh, sorry I haven't reached out to you in a while. I had hoped to surprise you last month with a game update. Becuase, you know, it was six months since the last update. Yeah. Six months. And I kinda promised you bi-monthly updates. But things got in the way. Stuff, you know.... And I'm sorry, But yeah. So here we are. Me, on stage, ranting. You, over there, taking it all in. Waiting. I guess waiting really is the word here.
But hey! The wait is now (kinda) over! Because here's an update! *drum roll* The Update: There actually is a content update in the pipeline!
Not a big one, granted, but it is content. And content means another step towards perfection completion.
So, yeah, that's it really. I don't want to tease too much and get your hopes up. Like I said; it's not much. Mostly just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten. I think about you (almost) every day. Honest!
But anyway, to reiterate, there is a content update in the works, and I don't want to promise anything, but keep your eyes peeled and hopefully you'll see it in a not too distant future!
Until then: keep it cars, keep it gosu, keep it super.
As always please keep in mind that the game is still in development meaning bugs and other oddities may be present and everything about the game is subject to change. If you encounter anything you don't like (or do like!) please let me know.
Howdy Super Gosu Cars fans! It's time for another game update!
Discoveries
Tiny little secrets have been added to all tracks in the game for you to discover. Discoveries are meant to be a fun little side thing to keep the veteran Super Gosu Drivers entertained for a bit when crushing the competition in a Grand Prix or polishing time trial records is no longer enough.
There is one secret per track; some are well hidden, some are not, some are obscure and some might be right in front of your nose if you know where to look and can find out how to get there.
Discoveries can be made in all game modes: Grand Prix, Custom Tournament and Time Trial.
As if the extatic joy of uncovering a discovery wasn't enough you will also be rewarded with a shiny achievement when you find one! And if you find the discoveries for all tracks belonging to a cup you will be rewarded with an achievement for that too! So what are you waiting for? Go get explorin'!

That's it for this update. I hope you will have as much fun exploring and discovering these little secrets as I had coming up with and hiding them! If you want to know what's in store for the future you can read about that in the One Year of Early Access anniversary post.

Hey paisanos, it's the Super Gosu Cars one year of early access summary celebration super post!
What a ride this year has been for me personally and for all you Super Gosu Fans out there!
One Year of Player Engagement
Thousands of you have downloaded and tried out the free demo! Hundreds of you have added the game to your wishlists for updates and notifications! And a finest handful of you majestic super gosu mad lads have even gone so far as to buy the damn thing before it's even completed! Now that's Gosu! A big thank you from me to all of you for warming this dev's heart!
One Year of Added Content
Don't believe me? Just look at all the content you've given me the energy to add over the past year:
But all of that is in the past and here at the Super Gosu Cars department of Codeborn we are all about looking towards the future! So here's a curated pick of what you can look forward to as the game moves ever closer to completion:
A couple more achievements (including a brand new category). COMING "SOON"!
One additional driver for a total of 16.
Two additional vehicles for a total of 16.
One impactful race-rule altering mutator.
Stay tuned for more sporadic updates from yours truly as this super gosu ride continues!
As always keep in mind that the game is still in development and bugs and other oddities may be present. If you encounter anything you don't like (or do like) please let me know!
Summer break is over! Moving forward with development!
Hey, Super Gosu Cars fans! It's me, the Developer.
Time flies and summer time doubly so! One month of summer vacation quickly turned into two, but don't worry, I am now once more behind the wheel and back on track with much to do!
Going forward
First of all I want to apologize to all my fans for the two months of complete radio silence: Sorry!
I got to be frank with you all: I have not been able to work much on the game these past two months. And while I am now back in action, chances are high I will not be able to put as much time into development as before.
What this means is that while development will continue and the game will leave early access, it is going to take a bit longer and at a bit slower pace. Instead of bi-weekly game updates you can probably expect maybe an update once a month or so. But that's not all! The updates will most likely be smaller than before too! Wow!
On the far horizon
I was hoping on leaving early access on the game's 1 year launch anniversary on September 23, however it is safe to say that deadline will be making a lovely whooshing noise as it goes by.
But! One good thing about staying in early access for longer is that the game will also be cheaper for you to buy for longer! Isn't that great!? So if you haven't already secured your digital copy of Super Gosu Cars make sure to do so before the full release and inevitably impending price hike!
Another good thing is that there's not super duper much left to finish content wise. But it will obviously still take its due time. The main things currently missing before leaving early access are:
One additional driver for a total of 16.
Two additional vehicles for a total of 16.
Race rule altering mutator(s).
A couple more achievements (including a brand new category).
Additional things that might happen eventually depending on whether YOU want it or not are:
Steam Leaderboards for Time Trial and/or Grand Prix.
UI overhaul.
SFX overhaul.
More translations (Deutsch, 日本語, Español, Français, and so on).

A new patch is here for y'all to kick off the start of the northern hemisphere summer months! Introducing the new Notifications feature! But other than that it's mostly bug fixes and minor tweaks, but those are necessary too! Can't always have new shiny things when old shiny things don't work properly and needs fixings.
New feature: Notifications
A notifications system has been added to the game. As an example notifications will pop up to inform you whenever you perform a feat achievement that counts toward a Cup Performer or Cup Master achievement, even if you have already earned the associated achievement for that feat. I hope this will make unlocking the harder Cup Performer and Cup Master achievements more comprehendable and enjoyable.
Development of the game will be taking a back seat for a bit. Even super gosu devs need a longer break from time to time. This means there'll be no updates for a while unless something critical pops-up. But I hope you'll have some fun with the game anyway until regular updates return later this summer, hopefully with an impact!

Item Distribution
In addition to being awarded based on the player's distance to the race leader some items are now also further restricted by the player's current position in the race.
As an example the Blast Shocker could previously be awarded to any player at any time as long as they were far enough behind the leader. In a race where the leader put on an outstanding performance being way ahead of everyone else this could result in a bit to much Blast Shocking for most peoples' tastes.
To alleviated this the Blast Shocker can now only be awarded to players in 7:th or 8:th place*, assuming they are also far enough behind the leader for it to happen.
* or equivalent position for races with less than 8 participants.

Racing like its 1994! With the Retro Mode mutator you can play Super Gosu Cars like your grandparents would've done had the game been around when they were young; with pixels large enough to fill a very tiny thimble and none of them fancy schmancy doohickeys like dynamic camera tracking or such like. As if the game wasn't lo-fi enough already!?
Play anywhere, anywhen on almost anything while still retaining your hard earned progress with Steam Cloud Saves! It just works!
On the horizon
Look forward to even more item(s), achievements and mutators being added in future updates!

Mutators
NEW! Retro Mode: Applies a pixel filter to the game and also locks the camera in place while in overhead view. To unlock it either beat Crankshaft Cup in 2 Star Mirror Mode or higher, or accumulate 224 human racer finishes* or more.
1 human racer finish equals 1 human player finishing a race regardless of game mode and settings, so completing a local multiplayer race with e.g. 5 human players counts as 5 finishes which greatly reduces the number of played races needed to unlock stuff this way.
General gameplay
All vehicle models are now very slightly larger in overhead camera view.
Items
Spiky Spinny: No longer clips through the vehicle of the player launching it as it launches.
Spiky Spinny: Travels slightly faster for a very brief time as it is launched.
Tracks
Petrol Plains: Removed an eyesore-inducing road surface marking.

Petal Ponds: Added additional fencing to mitigate a bit of ye olde invisible barrier syndrome in some sections of the track.
Suburbia: Fixed floating chimneys (if there'd been any!) and also covered their innards with proper soot instead of roof tiles.
The Manufactury: Added one additional flywheel piston hazard!
Various Tracks: Added some doodads. Moved some doodads around. Removed some doodads. Adjusted AI-pathfinding. Adjusted barriers and out of bounds areas.
Technical tidbits
Improved loading times between tracks.
Save files are now compressed to save space, time and bandwidth.
Slightly improved performance for some post-processing rendering effects.
Bugfixes
Fixed an issue where mutators would sometimes not load/unload correctly between races.
Keep in mind that the game is still in development meaning bugs and other oddities may be present and everything about the game is subject to change. If you encounter anything you don't like (or do like!) please let me know.
The game has been updated with a new content and gameplay update! A new item! A new mutator! Improved doodad collisions! And more! Patch notes can be found at the end of this post.
New Item: Blast Shocker
The Professor is back from his vacation and has completed his latest invention: the Blast Shocker!
Using a finely tuned mix of scrapped reality-bending inventions, a very powerful car horn and a shock-ton of overloaded capacitors (bristling with magic smoke!) the Blast Shocker is capable of delivering a devastating electric blast wave on which rides an army of short-lived nanobots designed to attack the drivetrain of vehicles to temporarily reduce their acceleration and speed! Nasty!
To celebrate the big reval of his latest invention the Professor has also come up with a new mutator: Big Items! As the name suggests it makes all items in the game big! Like, really big!
On the horizon
- Look forward to even more item(s) and mutators being added in future updates! - Work has finally begun for real on achievements, stats and leaderboards! Stay tuned for more info!
Patch notes 2024-04-21
New Item: Blast Shocker The Blast Shocker explodes into an electrical nanobot infused shockwave that causes all vehicles caught in the blast to spin out and have their speed temporarily reduced.
Effect: Vehicle max speed and acceleration reduced by 65%.
Duration: 10 seconds +/- up to 1 seconds based on player's race rank when struck. Meaning the leader of the race is affected for 11 seconds and the player in last place is affected for 9 seconds and the all other racers are affected for between 11 to 9 seconds based on their race rank.
Mutators
NEW! Big Items: Increases the size and effect of all items in the game. To unlock it either beat Crankshaft Cup in 1 Star Mirror Mode or accumulate 176 human racer finishes* or more.
1 human racer finish equals 1 human player finishing a race regardless of game mode and settings, so completing a local multiplayer race with e.g. 5 human players counts as 5 finishes which greatly reduces the number of played races needed to unlock stuff this way.
Low Gravity: Reduces gravity a tiny bit more than before.
General gameplay
Improved collisions for loose track-doodads such as tires, haybales, oil barrels and sign posts.
Many track doodads (most notably sign posts) which were previously static are now dynamic and can be collided with.
Tracks
Twin Oasis: Improved race position tracking.
Petal Ponds: Added actual petals to the ponds.
Suburbia: Fixed an issue where the wooden automatic boost ramp would sometimes propell you in undesired ways.
Seagull Tropics: Fixed an issue where vehicles would sometimes get stuck in the barrel cannon.
Boost City: Fixed an issue with the peace-keeping helicopter where it sometimes wouldn't lift off as intended.
The Manufactury: Re-instated flywheel and piston hazards which were erroneously disabled a few patches ago.
Various Tracks: Added more doodads. Moved doodads around. Adjusted AI-pathing. Adjusted barriers and out of bounds areas.
Keep in mind that the game is still in development and bugs and other oddities may be present. If you encounter anything you don't like (or do like) please let me know.
