Super Impossible Road

Online MP Beta is LIVE NOW

Hi everyone,

I'm super happy to announce that the online multiplayer beta went live this morning, and we've already had some intense matches between some of our best players.

How do you opt-in to the beta? It's pretty simple, but first you have to sign in to our Discord server here. This will make life easier in organizing matches, and reporting bugs as they happen. Once you're onboard, go to the #online channel and check the pinned note for the password and the instructions on how to join.

See you online!

Online Multiplayer Beta - Details Here

Hi all,

Want to get started with online racing before it goes fully live? There will be a beta starting in the next few days to make sure everything is running smoothly before the rollout.

Anyone who has a copy of the game can take part, but we would like everyone on the beta to be signed up to the Discord server so we can all coordinate games together and gather feedback in real time.

To get notification and instructions on how to join the beta when it goes live, sign up to discord here and watch the #online channel for further instructions.

See you online!

Kevin

Let us DISCORD

Hello all,

I've been looking closely at Discord and the options they have for integrating with games and matchmaking, and I think it would be a good idea to integrate Discord with SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD.

This means that you'll be able to chat to your fellow pilots and organise to meet up for games easily online, once the online features are available (very soon!). It won't replace all the standard Steam matchmaking stuff you would expect in a game like this, but it will be something extra for those who want to use it.

I've created 4 channels to start with. #general, #matchmaking (not useful until I put out the first multiplayer release!), #dailytrack and #tips. I'll make sure to keep a window open and check in regularly.

UPDATE - added a #streaming channel to share your SIR streams and vids

Here's the invite link. Click to get started

Oh, and one last thing, but probably the most important thing. Please be good to each other! I'd like to keep the Discord open and welcoming for all, and the only way to do that is if we all try to keep it that way.

See you on Discord,

Kevin

Wanted: Fake Names, Apply Within

Hello all,

As work on online multiplayer continues, I need a list of names to use for the bots that you can race against (and that replace players if they drop out), kinda like Rocket League does with online play.

If you have any ideas for names you would like to see, drop them in the comments below, and if they make the cut, they will be in the game.

Obviously, there are going to have to be some ground rules:

  • Fictional names only. No real people.
  • Don't suggest your Steam name, or any other online aliases.
  • 4-12 characters.
  • Alphanumeric characters only, no emoji or excessive punctuation
  • Prefer surnames over full names, e.g. Gonzalez is good, Andre Gonzalez bad
  • No swears or slurs. Keep it safe for all audiences. Be good...
  • No infringement of intellectual property. For example, the name Mad Max won't be accepted.
  • Developer's decision is final!
  • There's probably something I've missed...

So there you go, have at it in the comments below, and hopefully you will see something of yours in the final game. Keeping to the rules above will give you the best chance of making the cut, but please don't be too disappointed if I can't use yours.

Kevin

Take a sneak peak at online multiplayer racing in SIR!

It's rough, ugly, jerky, there's no collision and a ton of bugs to deal with. But online multiplayer in SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD is __baaasiccally__ working!

Here's the video. Don't look at it if you don't like looking at rough dev work :)

I'm hoping to have the first version ready for all of you Early Access people before the end of March.

The Gear Update (v0.17.0) is here!

More customization, more options

The vessel component roster has just grown, bringing two more wheels and two more caps into the mix. As well as adding more options to make your vessel look great, this also gives you more options to build out your stats to suit your play style. Need a help with turns? There’s now a build available with maximum steering. Like to boost a lot? There’s a build for that too.

New wheels
  • Ersa Model 3
  • XGrade Razorback

New caps
  • Armada Composite
  • Armada Crosslight

Full release notes are here as usual.

The Lighting Update (v0.16.2) is here

Hello all,

Time for another point release, this time focusing on lighting, materials, and the post effects stack. Everything has been rebalanced, opening out the mid-tones to present a more realistic image rather than the crushed contrast present in recent builds.

See the full release notes here.

Enjoy!

Kevin

The Controller Compatibility Update is live (v0.16.1)

Hi guys,

Just a minor point release, but something that you might appreciate if you're having trouble with controller compatibility. I've upgraded the controller library that SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD uses (Rewired) to the latest version, bringing with it compatibility for lots more controllers, for example the Nintendo Switch Joycons.

I've exposed the settings for Rewired in the INI file. I would advise that you should only change these settings if you're having problems, but if you are then they may be just the help you need.

This rolls up all the changes from the Beta branch, and as such I've disabled it for now to make sure we're all on the main release branch again.

Full release notes here.

Enjoy your weekend,

Kevin

Beta 2 now available with configurable input options

UPDATE - I've rolled all these changes into the main release, 0.16.1. I've closed the Beta branch until the next time we need it. Thank you for your feedback!

Hello all,

Time for the second beta branch release, focused again on controller compatibility.

These changes are only in the optional Beta branch of the game. More details on how to opt in here.

In this release, you can configure the input system using the game's INI file. This is handy if you just can't get your controllers to work with the game.

I've pinned a discussion topic on the INI file here, which details everything you can change.
here.

Note that messing around with the INI file is for advanced users only. For everyone else, you should find the settings you need in the in-game options.

Enjoy, and let me know if this works well for you all,

Kevin

New beta branch with controller changes now available

Hi all,

I've just opened up a beta branch for you all. From time to time, I'll need to test some experimental things out with a few of you before deploying to everyone, and that's what this branch is for.

This time, we're testing out fresh controller compatibility code to sort out a couple of problems some of you have been having. To switch to the beta branch, do the following:

1.) Right-click SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD in your Steam client
2.) Click Properties
3.) Click the Beta tab
4.) In the password field, type "duskotherbase" (without the quotes)
5.) Select the branch "beta" from the dropdown
6.) Run the game. You may have to wait for the download first.

If you do this, you should see the version number showing as 0.16.1 BETA 1 on the title screen (not on the "What's New" screen).

Let me know your experiences with the beta, and we can tweak some settings and go from there. Once we're happy, we can make these settings live to everyone.

Kind Regards,

Kevin
