Super Kaiju

Hot fix 3

As we keep working on the multiplayer queue and progression features we've announced earlier, we also noticed that some of you experience a very long delay as you start the game. This is the "static data loading" message you may have seen as you try to join a match.

This is of course not cool, so to help ensure that wherever you are in the world, you'll get this content swiftly, we've added more CDN providers to our setup, so with a bit of luck, you'll never see that message again.

We're afraid this fix doesn't automatically upgrade your internet connection for you, so if that's the actual bottleneck, we're sorry.

Match making updates coming soon

Hi fellow Kaiju destroyers,

I just wanted to let you know that we're working on a better experience for finding other players in multiplayer, and it should be heading your way pretty soon.

Instead of sitting alone in the match waiting for someone to show up, which is utterly boring, especially in VR, you'll just be put in a queue, and you can go off playing single player, or twiddle with the settings, until another player also joins the queue. Then you'll both get notified and put into the match. You'll be able to leave the queue up until you get matched, but after that you're committed.

Once that's working well, we'll move on and add friend challenges, so you don't always have to play random strangers.

And in a couple of days, my colleague will drop a few lines here about the progression features we're working on, so stay tuned!

Wednesday hot fix

While we keep working on larger items such as persisted progression, we want to give you a small update with a couple of things you've asked for, and some for which you didnt!

  • Support for NVIDIA Multi-Res, which vastly improves performance on supported NVIDIA graphics cards.
  • You can now quit a match using the controller menu button. Single player matches can be quit at any time, while multiplayer matches can only be quit before another player joins.
  • Fixed the one-controller-sometimes-has-no-vibration bug.
  • Walk-over victory for remaining player if the other disconnects during multiplayer.
  • New options menu with Multi-Res, Graphics Quality, and Sound Volume settings.
  • UI button sounds.
  • A couple of other minor things that were bugging us.

Monday hot fix

We're beginning this week with just a tiny update.

  • The shield was a bit too effective, so we've raised the price to 8 stars, shortened the duration from 10 to 3 seconds, and lowered the cool down from 30 seconds to 10. You need to time it better to make sure those missiles don't take you out!
  • The super dull in-game music, which was an unfortunate placeholder as we waited for our musician to wake up, has been removed. (It'll be replaced with a proper track as soon as we can, along with volume controls.)
  • The login now happens earlier, so you should have the high scores and stats ready right as you enter the lobby. You should also not have to put up with the "static data still loading" message, but can jump right into action.

Super Kaiju enters Early Access

The Early Access release of Super Kaiju is here! We are extremely excited to get new players into the game, and to hear your feedback. Being an Early Access game, some of the feature are still a little rough around the edges (or even missing). But rest assured, we are determined to push out frequent updates to the game to bring it to a level where it is the most intense competitive multiplayer VR game on the market.

How to play:

Super Kaiju is a first person arena shooter where two players utilize the power of giant Kaiju’s in a battle to the death. The end goal is simple, destroy the other player before he destroys you.

You start the battle holding two weapons, one in each hand. These weapons are not very effective against the enemy Kaiju in the early part of the match so you need to use different ways to damage the enemy and gain power. The battlefield is full of all sorts of flying creatures that you can shoot down in order to gain stars. Gain enough stars and you’ll be able to activate powerful abilities that can turn the tide of the battle. These flying creatures come in all shapes and sizes and some are very difficult to destroy. Luckily your weapons have the ability to suck up special bomb minions that are running around the play area. These bombs can be used to take out the strongest of the flying threats and can even be used to do a decent amount of damage to the enemy Kaiju.

Our first release includes:

- 2x different types of Kaiju’s (Robot and Crab)
- 3x types of flying monsters to charge the powerful abilities
- 3x visually stunning battlefields
- 2x Power ups (Health/Damage boost)
- Shield bubble ability that protects you for a short amount of time
- Missile Barrage ability that allows you to inflict massive damage on your opponent

Known issues:

- If there are any performance problems, try changing the graphics setting to low from the cog wheel button in the lobby.
- The game is fresh out the door so there are not a lot of players on our servers yet. If you can’t find a match in multiplayer, then we suggest practicing your skills in single player for a little while so once there are enough players you can crush them in battle.
- There is no UI to quit while in a battle. So you’ll either need to stick it out and finish, or restart the application.
- The Ability intro text on the Snow Battlefield blends into the background so it’s very hard to read.
