Superfly

Superfly Full Release

Hello,

We have two exciting announcements to share with you. First, Superfly is officially leaving Early Access. We are now in full release! Check out our new trailer on our Store page! We’ve got a ton of new content for you: a giant new turret boss, updated controls for all the movement modes, greatly improved performance, and a variety of extra game modes (upside-down city! 10x more powerful flight!). All these new features are live now on both the PC and Quest versions of Superfly.

Second, Superfly is out now on Quest! Over the last couple of years, we’ve heard your constant requests to bring Superfly to the Quest headset. Almost exactly one year ago today, we started working on our port to the Quest 1 and Quest 2. With the help of our development team and our beta testers from our Discord, your dream has become a reality! Superfly is out on the Quest App Lab Store, AVAILABLE NOW!

With Full Release and Quest release, Superfly is feature complete. We will continue to provide support and bug fixes for the foreseeable future, but this is our last major content update. We also want to be upfront with you guys, with our full release, soon there will be a slight price increase from $14.99 to $19.99, to reflect all the new content we’ve added since our initial Early release. Don’t worry though, Superfly will be participating in both the Steam Summer Sale 2022 and the Steam VR Fest coming up this summer, so that is your chance to get Superfly at a discounted rate!

We can’t tell you how much all of this has meant to us. How much all our fans have meant to us. We started this as a hobby project, never expecting we would ever even have 100 users. To be here now... Tens of thousands of fans later. Viral videos. Youtubers playing us who have millions of subscribers. A Discord community of over 700 members. It’s truly mind boggling. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

We also want to give a sincere thanks to all the users on our Discord server who have kept us going over the last couple of years. Many of you have been there since the beginning, cheering us on, suggesting new ideas or powers, telling us about bugs, helping us test our game, and so much more. We’re so proud of the community we have built about fun, games, acceptance, tolerance. A safe place for everyone to just have fun talking about VR games. We encourage all of you to join our Discord community if you haven’t already, either for fun, or if you have any troubles with running Superfly. Come and chat with our development team, or with our dedicated community support team ready to help you.

And with all of that, our time with Superfly is coming to a close. Our development team Loco Motion Devs has been working hard on Superfly for a very long time, and we’re ready to move on to our next project, whatever that may be. Keep an eye out on all our platforms if you want to stay up to date with what Loco Motion Devs will do next.

Superfly v0.10.2 Update

We're back with another update for Superfly! This is only a minor update, focused on fixing bugs and adding social features. The main new feature is a brand new leaderboard! All those gears you collect in game will now be reflected on our website. Compete with your fellow VR users and friends to see who can get the most gears!

Updates have been slow recently because we're focusing most of our effort on porting Superfly to the Oculus Quest. We're making good progress: the port should be ready sometime between May and July! The Quest version will be almost the same as the Steam version, with a couple minor differences. First, the Quest version will have improved controls and hand physics, as we're updating our input code to incorporate years of new technology in VR. Second, the Quest version will have significantly worse graphics quality - this is a necessary compromise to get decent FPS, as the Quest is much less powerful than a PC. Once we have the Quest version, we'll try to copy these improvements to controls and performance to the Steam version (though we won't lower the graphics quality of the Steam version), so everyone will end up with the best of Superfly.

Once we have an prototype for the Quest port, we plan to run a large beta test to try and find all the remaining bugs and performance issues. If you have an Oculus Quest and you're interested in joining this beta, join our Discord and keep an ear out for announcements!

Changelog:

  • Added an online leaderboard that shows how many gears the top players have collected
  • Fixed a ton of bugs related to the tutorial scene

Superfly v0.10.1 Update

This minor update focuses on fixing a few bugs in the game. It should resolve an issue where collecting gears didn't unlock new powers in Story Mode, and another issue where all sidegrades were locked even in Free Play mode. These issues were inconsistent and only impacted a small number of users, so it's difficult to be 100% sure they're fixed - if you still experience either of these bugs, please let us know so we can keep searching for a fix.

Our current plan is to focus on fixing a few more bugs from the 0.10.0 update related to the tutorial room, then to continue adding content. We're working on adding a third boss robot, and we want to update the worm boss to match the new combat system. We also have plans to improve physical interactions with the existing blimps and boats, to tweak the city generation, and to improve the controls for some sidegrades. After all of that, we're planning to focus all of our energy on a port to the Oculus Quest! While we can't give an exact date just yet, we're hoping to publish a standalone Quest version of Superfly in the first half of this year.

As always, please join us on Discord for the latest updates and announcements. Thanks for reading, and have a happy new year!

Changelog:

  • Updated the log files to include more debug information
  • Fixed a bug that locked all sidegrades for some users
  • Fixed a bug that stopped some users from collecting gears
  • Fixed a bug that spammed SteamVR error messages in the log files

Superfly v0.10.0 Update

It's been a while, but we're back with the latest major update to Superfly! This update brings Story Mode, a work-in-progress game mode that teaches the game and lets you unlock powers and sidegrades over time. The mode starts with a new and improved tutorial. After that, you need to collect gears all around the city to unlock new powers and sidegrades: 10 gears per power, and an increasing number for each sidegrade. If unlocking things over time isn't for you, don't worry, you can play the full Superfly experience immediately in Free Play mode.

This update also brings major performance improvements related to the game physics. Behind the scenes, this works by changing the physics tick rate to be slower than the frame rate, so the expensive physics calculations run less often. You can control this tick rate with the Physics Detail option in the game's settings menu. Setting the Physics Detail to High should give the same behavior as previous versions of Superfly.

Some users have reported a bug in Story Mode where collecting gears doesn't properly unlock new powers. If you experience this issue, please send us your log files on our Discord server so we can fix the bug as soon as possible. You can always switch to Free Play mode to avoid the issue.

Thanks for reading, and Merry Christmas!

Superfly v0.9.4 Update

The Superfly v0.9.4 update is live! Apologizes that this took so long to get out. Our main developer had to move to another country for grad school, so he hasn't had nearly as much time to work on the project. If you've been playing on the beta branch all this time, you'll already be familiar with the changes.

We added a new combat system, along with EMP attacks that disable your movement modes and hacking attacks that can defeat the player. This also adds two new enemy types, hacking orbs and EMP-spiders. Alongside this new defeat mechanic, we added a difficulty slider, going from Invincible all the way to Insane. We also fixed several bugs, you can see which ones below. Thanks again for your patience!
