Dev Blog 05.04.19 Release Day

Finally release day!



I'm so thankful for all of you guys who supported Supraland so much during the past 14 months of early access. You showed me so many bugs, abuses, fake solutions and stuff. Without you I wouldn't have been able to polish everything so much! And you have given me so much motivation to go on. If you just developed something for so long without anyone seeing it, you'd really become miserable and lose the will to go on.

Here a little reminder what way we've come from Februar '18 to April '19

I will probably do some more little updates, but really just when necessary. Console releases are also still an option; we'll see.

Beyond that, the ideas for Supraland 2 keep piling up in my head and I seriously can't wait to start!

Update 4.4.2019

- Made color machines prettier
- Added 2 more hints to the endboss puzzle
- Prevent accidentally washing off color during endboss puzzle
- Fixed problems with music triggering in the map
- Added first draft of Hungarian translation
- Small credits sequence adjustments
- Translated store page to lots of different languages

Update 01.04.2019

Some more polishing work!

- Fixed that the gun projectile would get stuck at the prison bars
- Prison bars now get translucent when you get close to them so it's easier to see the 2nd fire instructions
- Prevent jumping during Force Cube tutorial, so you realise you don't need to jump to make it spawn under you
- Translocator can now be also colored by your gun projectile
- Put a translocator into blue guy's hands for when he runs away from you
- Made flies move to the object they are attracted to instead of snapping them
- Removed electricity thing from onslaught
- Fixed that you could get into the little house next to the supraball pitch without using a combo
- Lowered ground in front of endboss coloring machine to not allow putting things on the Cube to color them
- Translocator ball always glows now when you hold it in your hand
- Fixed mom now pointing at the castle gate when she asks you to open it to avoid confusion
- Fixed tutorial labels respawning after loading the game after the tutorial is finished
- Small improvements

Update 0.17.9 and Release announcement

As you can see from the list of changes below, I am only doing the last finishing touches. Supraland will officially be released as V1.0 on the 5th of April 2019!

Today's update brings you:
- Gun 2nd fire beam aiming is now easier, doesn't need to be 100% precise anymore
- Made the impact effects of the gun prettier
- Changed gun related sound effects
- Gun projectile now grows from 0 to normal size after shooting instead of being big from the start: this prevents it from getting stuck on things that are right in front of you
- Improved sound of projectile bouncing off of enemy shield
- Fixed some labels not going away after picking up the item
- Made some glass planes, that were not visible enough, more opaque
- Moved criminal orange guy in locker room to another place and only appear after the prison scene
- Fixed volcano quest text triggering at a certain spot after you already finished the main quest
- Small improvements

Update 0.17.7

- First draft of Turkish translation
- New version of Spanish, Italian and German translation
- Now end cinematic mode at end of Miracle scene
- New camera angle that shows destruction of end boss
- Made blue gate battery more visible, too many missed it
- Changed farm shop layout
- Fixed that it was not possible to select Simplified Chinese
- Fixed melting bars at 128 instead of 32 2nd fire
- Onslaught a little easier (archers and skeleton grunts slower, damage for escaped monsters reduced from 30 to 22, a few less enemies)
- Wood graves give more coins on destroying
- Fixed rock spitting demons to also aim high or low (they ignored your height)
- Small improvements

Update 0.17.5

- 2nd Fire of gun now starts at 4 damage instead of 1. Multiplication upgrades bring it up to 256. Melting starts at 128.
- Reduced likliness of giant enemy hoarding spawning to 60-70%
- Hid another chest
- Translocator ball now gets orange in fire for consistency
- Fixed that your weapons don't get colored when you color yourself
- Enemy health now always rounds up so you won't see someone with 0 health but 1 instead
- Added a little contraption in the onslaught minigame
- Fixed blue king text
- Added one more tutorial explanation in the purple crystal pit to make it clearer that you need to hold left mouse to attach the beam
- Removed the notpron laptop opening notpron in your browser because some antivirs go crazy about this and destroy supraland - sad!
- Portuguese, Italian, Finnish, Spanish and German translation updated
- Monsters don't drop coins if your coins are maxed out
- Fixed problem when you press the endboss button only for a too short moment
- Lots of little things fixed and improved
- Demo version updated to 0.17.5 too

Update 0.17.3

- Added first draft of Spanish translation
- Added "warum warum" button in menu if the current savegame has beaten the main quest
- Improved cousin-return-dialogue
- Less shells to find at red crystal and easier to see them
- Changed glass texture (the refraction effect caused visual problems that seem to be unsolvable)
- Fixed panic light button not being usable with force cube
- Added a checkpoint at the cactus jump challenge at the red crystal tower
- Changed look for Mario-Character
- Added cable in facility from lever to turning pipe

Update 0.17.2

- Fixed a way to skip the entire part of carrot town
- Made Miracle scene smoother by shortening the breaks
- Quest animation is no longer playing if you don't have a quest anymore
- Fixed archer still making a shooting sound after having died already
- Fixed not being able to refill a sponge when it's half empty
- No more allowing respawns during intro
- Made save animation prettier
- Fixed being able to get into carrot town through the backdoor
- Force Cube now sinks less deep into lava to avoid accidental deaths
- Added another mechanism to the color machine at the panic light to give a good reason as to why you cannot color yourself
- Fixed getting out of carrot town without being strong
- Fixed that you can get out of Blueville before that part is completed and even if you do, you can now get in again
- A couple of small improvements and fixes

Update 0.17.1 Beta

Supraland is now in beta!

- Added simplified Chinese translation
- Updated a couple of other translations
- Replaced remaining texts in the game that couldn't display Chinese, Japanese and Russian with a new text display (That also looks better than the old one)
- Added a couple of cables
- Fixed getting stuck in secret area of facility with translocator
- Fixed getting the 2 green moons without the stomp
- Enemy despawn distance was increased a lot so that they don't despawn when you respawn
- Fixed getting unlimited money from destroying volcanos
- Changed "basement" to "ground floor" in facility NPC hint
- Fixed OOB before 2nd last puzzle
- Fixed steel beams at Blueville gate rising too soon, so you could skip the entire throne room scene
- Fixed wrong solutions in the lava building (fire flies) and made some solutions a little easier
- Added 2 more chests and one more buyable item in the farm shop - those get your max health to 200 (185 before)
- Fixed wrong triggering problems with the quest once your cousin got saved
- Little skeletons now do 1 less damage
- Keycards slide easier into reader
- Flower not get stuck on rim of color machine and slide in
- Fixed puzzle to get into purple crystal pit - pipe now needs constant electrification to stay open
- Lots of little improvements
- Making speedrunners angry

Dev Blog 17.03.19

Supraland is basically done now. I am just polishing lots of little things for a few more weeks and give the translators more time to do the same. The major translations are now all in the game too.

I still can't believe I got to this point, having made an entire game in about 15 months. I started with very limited knowledge in Unreal Engine 4 and I thought I could never do this without a programmer helping me, because I could not program at all. But I step by step I got everything to work and learned so much on the way.

Now that the release is close I wonder how to properly prize the game. I know all the things smart people have said about how to prize games, but there is one fundamental problem:

People who don't know the game think something like 20-25€ is too much.
Those who played it agree, it's worth that and more.

Those who don't know it yet would maybe buy it for 5-10€. But if I prize it at 5-10€ they don't want it, because 5-10€ sounds like it's a cheap trash game. If you sell it for 50€ and give people a 80-90% discount they will want it. Awkward.

Do you buy games outside of sales?

Apart from that, ideas for Supraland 2 or a Supraland 1 spinoff are getting bigger and bigger in my head and I think that will be the next thing I am gonna make.
