A small issue with controller support was brought to my attention and fixed.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where the pause menu in the campaign intro and resolution levels weren't usable with a controller.
Final Chapters Update
March 30, 2020 Sword Mans version 1.4.
The story of Sword Mans is complete!
It’s been a long time since I’ve done any updates at all, so I want to make sure this update is a big one. The campaign has finally been finished with the last three chapters! The length of the campaign has doubled in a single update!
Bug Fixes:
Fixed an error where the co-op campaign text would sometimes be cut off in some resolutions.
Fixed a bug where the next campaign level would sometimes not unlock.
Fixed a bug which caused a boss to fire too many fireballs.
Fixed a bug where the bosses' health in arena mode would be more than the value on the healthbar (you're welcome).
General Changes:
Adjusted some sound balancing for some sound effects. Most notably fire and explosion sounds.
Added unique boss images to each of the bosses healthbars.
Added new bosses to the arena. Some are harder, good luck!
Raised the ceiling height for all arena maps.
New Stuff:
New campaign chapter: Chapter 4!
New campaign chapter: Chapter 5!
New campaign chapter: Chapter 6!
Each chapter of the campaign is unlocked once you beat the previous chapter.
New versus mode: Combined. Before you could play sword mans or gun mans, now you can play both at the same time! Look for the setting in the versus options page.
With these three chapters, the campaign has finally been completed. Today marks 2 years since Sword Mans was released, so it's been a long time coming. Sadly, this is also the last big content update I have planned. If you find bugs or have suggestions, feel free to reach out to me at bypassgamestudios@gmail.com or using the steam community hub.
I have other games planned, so if you're interested follow @bypass_games on twitter or keep your eyes peeled for other updates on steam.
I hope you enjoy Sword Mans in its final form, I know I had a blast making it! Thanks!
Final Chapters Update Incoming
It's been a long time since the last update, so I want this to be a big one. The co-op campaign is finally coming to a conclusion!
Currently the update is scheduled for this month, March 30th! Also be prepared for a sale starting around then. Keep your eyes peeled for more information. Until then, here's a small teaser:
You may recognize parts of this, but other parts might seem new...
Steam Remote Play Together is Amazing
I finally got around to testing Steam Remote Play Together for Sword Mans, and I'm completely astounded at how seamlessly it worked.
I've always thought that Sword Mans was best experienced as a local multiplayer game, but it's not always easy to get 2-4 people in the same room whenever you want. Now you can invite your friends via steam and they don't even need to own the game. This is such a dramatic leap forwards for couch multiplayer games, especially for busy independent developers like myself. So give it try!
Update: July Bug Fixes
The worst part about summer is all the bugs that come out. Thankfully, we don't have to deal with quite as many after this update.
Bug Fixes:
The main menu items are now correctly selected when starting the game with a controller.
The bridge on the Bridge stage is 25% more bridge like. You can now almost cross the bridge without falling through.
Fixed a bug where the boost meter would sometimes keep draining after you stopped boosting.
Hopefully this makes your summer a little more enjoyable, have fun! Keep an eye out for more content coming "soon."
Sword Mans 75% off until July 9th!
You read that right, 75% off for the Steam Summer Sale! That puts Swords Mans at only $2.49, a record low! If you haven't bought it already, now's the best time.
The Summer Vacation to Hell update just came out, so enjoy the new content.
As always, have fun! Go team Corgi!
Update: Summer Vacation to Hell
June 24th, 2019 Sword Mans version 1.3.3
Welcome to hell! This summer sure is hot, and dangerous. Enjoy this brand new Arena stage with a brand new unique enemy type, imps! Imps will only appear in the Hell stage, you'll recognize them by their tiny stature, red skin, and flaming heads.
New Stuff:
Added Hell, a new Arena mode stage. Play against the furious fire spewing imps in the endless arena. Use the fire trap to your advantage, but watch out for falling fireballs!
New Hat: Horns, to display your inner demon.
New Misc item: Devil Tail, fresh off the devil himself.
You'll get both of these new items just for launching the game in the next two weeks. As always, have fun! Also, keep an eye out for a Sword Mans sale coming soon, tell your friends!
Update: Unity 2019
May 31, 2019 Sword Mans version 1.3.2
The biggest change in this update was an upgrade to Unity 2019. There were a number of bugs that came with the upgrade, but I think I got them all ironed out. However if you find any new bugs, let me know. You can email bypassgamestudios@gmail.com or make a post on the user forums about it.
In addition, I have a few minor improvements. Here's the patch notes.
New Stuff:
Upgraded to Unity 2019, a much needed upgrade. There aren't many noticeable changes, but there are many back end changes that were needed.
Adjustments:
Added some improvements to the campaign UI.
When a chapter is completed, you now have the option to continue to the next chapter or go back to the main menu (previously you were forced back to the menu).
Added chapter titles to the beginning and end of each chapter.
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a bug where the AI players would not aggro at the appropriate distance when using the crossbow.
Fixed a bug where the shop menu would sometimes cover up items in certain resolutions.
As always, have fun and keep your eyes peeled for the next update!
Update: Gun Mans, Part 2
April 3, 2019 Sword Mans version 1.3.1
Well Gun Mans has been fun, but April Fools is over and I think it's time we put the swords back in Sword Mans. But if you ever have the urge to play Gun Mans again, it'll be an option in the versus menu from now on. When starting a versus game, select options and turn on "Play Gun Mans" to turn all the swords back into guns.
New Stuff:
Put the swords back.
Added the option to play Gun Mans in versus mode whenever you want. The pistol, revolver, uzi, shotgun, crossbow, sniper rifle, tommy gun, LMG, grenade launcher, and rocket launcher are all still available when this option is enabled.
Adjustments:
Reordered the menus so you customize your sword mans just before starting the game. This seems more intuitive overall and allows you to choose if you're playing Gun Mans or Sword Mans before you select equipment.
I hope you have fun with this new mode!
Update: Gun Mans!
April 2, 2019 Sword Mans version 1.3.0
Happy April Fools! You thought the update was coming yesterday but you were fooled! Haha, yeah that's it (please don't read into it any further). Anyways, Sword Mans has taken a giant leap into the future. Your familiar sword wielding mans will now be wielding guns!
New Stuff
All swords have been replaced with guns.
Pistol: A very quick semiautomatic weapon.
Revolver: A much higher damage, but slower gun.
Uzi: Very fast fire rate and fully automatic.
Shotgun: Slow fire rate, but shoots out multiple projectiles.
Crossbow: So what if it's not a gun?
Sniper Rifle: Long range with laser sights for improved accuracy.
Tommy Gun: Automatic rifle with a drum magazine.
LMG: A heavy automatic weapon with a laser sight.
Grenade Launcher: Fires an grenade that explodes on impact.
Rocket Launcher: Launches a rocket that travels in a straight line.
New Cosmetics!
Army Helmet: To protect your head from those nasty bullets. This will be available any time you start Sword Mans.
Bulletproof Vest: To do the same for your torso. Also available for everyone.
Battle Banner: A waving flag to show your patriotism.
Ammo Belt: Slung over your shoulder for convenience.
Radio: To keep in contact with your companions on the front lines.
Adjustments
Explosions now deal damage based on how close you are to the center of the explosion. With explosive weapons in the game, it made sense to reward a more accurate shot. A direct hit will deal devastating damage while a glancing blow will be more survivable.
It's hard to believe that Sword Mans has been out for a whole year. I hope you all have had as much fun playing it as I've had making and continually improving it. Be sure to use the steam community hub if you have any questions or suggestions about Sword Mans.
