Sword Reverie Updates Starting again

Exciting updates from the Sword Reverie Team

Hello!
First off, we owe you an apology. It’s been a while since our last update - too long, really. For the last year and a half, we faced some tough challenges. Financially, things didn’t pan out as we’d hoped, which slowed us down more than we anticipated. But here’s the thing: we believe wholeheartedly in Sword Reverie, and we haven’t stopped working towards making it the experience we all dreamed it could be.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that not only are we back in full swing, but we’ve also welcomed some new talents to our team. Say hello to Hans Fritz, Luciana Cheung, and Seyren! Each brings a wealth of creativity and expertise, and they’re as excited as we are about the game’s future.
Now, we’ve listened to your feedback, and we have some exciting updates to share! 🎮⚔️

🤺 Transition to OpenXR: We’ve made some big changes under the hood. We moved to OpenXR so it's easier for players to launch the game on both SteamVR and Oculus headsets. We also upgraded to Unity 2022 and URP for better performance.

💥 Updated Gameplay: You asked, we listened. You’ll now be able to see enemy health bar + damage numbers to better keep track of your impact in battles. We’ve also supercharged player speed!

✨ UI Improvements: We've tweaked the player health and mana bars, as well as the notifications for a more intuitive and immersive experience.

🐞 Performance improvements and bug fixes: We have addressed various performance issues and bugs to ensure better stability.

There’s more on the horizon, including new player and enemy skills. Regular updates are back on schedule, and we can’t wait to share our progress with you.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Stay tuned for more from Sword Reverie!

Early Access Update 1 Now Available

0.8.8 Early Access Update 1

The first update for Sword Reverie Early Access is here!

New features:

  • Improved Magnus AI to attack enemies in certain cases (we will continue improving Magnus AI in the next update).
  • Players now receive exp and items when killed.
  • Added sitting mode and height calibration options (decide how tall or short you want to be).
  • Added setting for snap / smooth turn speed.

Bug fixes and balance changes:

  • Reduced drag on player swords (allows the sword to more closely track player hand movement)
  • Reduce the slow time effect duration after hitting an enemy.
  • Increase Elemental and Humanoid enemy movement speed and attack speed.
  • Fixed issue where certain Steam achievements aren’t being correctly set.
  • Fixed issue when Humanoid enemy swinging down still damages player after the attack finished.
  • Fixed issue where the player can stun-lock enemies on the ground. Enemies get up more quickly after being knocked to the ground and can not be knocked down again for a certain duration after getting up.
  • Player hands are better posed around Swords in a grip pose.
  • Improved player forearm IK to reduce player arm twisting.
  • Fixed issue where certain sound effects would play repeatedly when switching between guild hall and levels.

We are working on many more improvements based on your feedback and will continue to have updates every 1~2 months.

Select items from Roadmap for next 1~3 months:

  • Improve Magnus AI to fight enemies on more levels.
  • Improve Ranged Enemy AI so they run away at a slower speed than when running towards you so players can catch up to them and kill them when they are running away. i
  • Add volume settings.
  • Change health and mana potions so players can choose when to use them (from the pause menu) instead of consuming them as soon as the player receives them.
  • Add checkpoints to certain longer levels so players do not need to restart the whole level when they die.
  • Add potion crafting.
  • Add vignette comfort option.
  • Add additional movement options (run, dash, jump).
  • Add Japanese VO.
  • Add Chinese and Japanese UI.
  • Add subtitles (in English, Chinese, and Japanese).

0.8.6 Early Access Hotfix

Bug fixes and balance changes:

  • Fixed issue where players can’t move controller after completing a level when turning using smooth turn.

0.8.5 Early Access Week 1 Patch

Bug fixes and balance changes:

  • Reduced memory usage by 40%+ and reduced memory-related crashes
  • Improve performance on 16GB RAM machines
  • Reduce crashing on machines with <8GB page files
  • Baked vegetation to reduce memory usage
  • Optimized textures
  • Delay loading of voice-over dialogue
  • Added logs to end of level win menu to help debug issues with players not being able to move controllers after completing a level. New logs will help us resolve the issue if players continue to experience it in the future
  • Fixed bug causing mana regen only once per two hits instead of once per hit.
  • Fixed bug where Stella and Magnus VO were not properly spatialized.
