Developer SYNC-up
Gamescom 2023 kicks off in just a few days (August 23) and we couldn't be more excited to attend the show. SYNCED will be featured as part of Level Infinite's "Into the Infinite" showcase, and we've got lots of good stuff lined up for those who'll be joining us online or in person at the event. But before we get the party started in Cologne, let's check in with Creative Director Clark Yang for his thoughts on Gamescom and why it's special for SYNCED in the latest Developer SYNC-up:
Thanks for watching. Don't forget to catch SYNCED at Gamescom right here on August 23, and pre-register now to be eligible for great rewards at launch.
How Guntech Works in SYNCED
As you and your squad patrol the Dead Sectors for precious Nerva you'll come across some truly terrifying Nanos hell-bent on preventing you from making it back to Haven in one piece. Luckily, you'll find all manner of weapons scattered across the Meridian, ideal for keeping the hordes at bay. Occasionally, you might stumble across something extra special - a Guntech weapon.
Standing out from the crowd
Guntech weapons are valuable items in the world of SYNCED. While their unique appearance visually sets them apart from standard weapons, it's their powerful and devastating effects that truly make them a force to be reckoned with. For example, where a standard submachine gun might be useful for peppering your Nano foes with lead, a Guntech equivilant (such as "Chaos Theory", pictured above) will offer increased damage with every bullet fired.
As you uncover rarer Guntech variants, you'll gain access to even more devastating and outlandish weapon effects. Fancy a rifle capable of delivering a black hole right onto a Prime Nano's head? "Supernova" has got you covered.
Further Augmentation
Acquiring your shiny new Guntech weapon is just the beginning. Augmentation allows you to truly make it sing, offering a powerful upgrade path and turning your scary new toy into a ridiculous Nano-slaying machine.
Such fine-tuning allows you to grow your chosen Guntech weapon in sync with your wider playstyle - complimenting your Runner, your mods, and even your squad. At least until you find your next Guntech weapon!
Where you'll find them, and where you won't
Guntech weapons are available through the various PvE modes in SYNCED, and - when combined with Runner Mods and your Armband Codex - represent a core element of player progression and customization.
However, owing to their "over-powered" nature and tendancy to laugh in the face of "balance", Guntech weapons are not permitted in PvP game modes. Maintaining a fun and fair competitive environment is our top priority when it comes to player-vs-player encounters, and so you'll need to stow your Guntech arsenal until your next battle against the vicious Nanos of the Meridian.
Have you found a Guntech in your travels through the Meridian? If so, which one was it? Let us know on our social channels!

Developer SYNC-up
SYNCED offers exciting looter-shooter gameplay featuring rogue-lite elements, and the addition of a deep and rewarding progression system to drive the overall experience was always top of our list of priorities during development.
The progession systems in SYNCED have been designed to offer players mutiple paths to power-up their Runner and experiment with their build. In today's Developer SYNC-up, Creative Director Clark Yang provides a deep dive on what players can expect to see from these systems:
One more thing: SYNCED will be attending Gamescom 2023 as part of Level Infinite's "Into the Infinite" showcase from August 23. We'll be posting updates from the event, so keep it locked right here if you can't attend the show live - and don't forget to wishlist!
SYNCED | Developer Livestream 7/13
On July 13th, Haven welcomed runners both new and old. Our host and Community Manager at NExT Studios Jake Rosenblum brought on both Kevin Shortt, the Narrative Director for SYNCED as well as Liv Peelen, a Narrative Designer who specializes in storytelling and item naming. The topic of this week’s stream was all about names in SYNCED, and how they were created. The stream started out with the naming process and the stories behind some of the names we’ve come to know and love. Later, the guests were challenged to a word trivia game, to test their knowledge of the item names in SYNCED. To end the stream, our guests strapped on their boots, and went into the Meridian to show off their preferred weapons as well as their favorite Runner.
If you would like to get synced, watch the video on demand below.
Developer SYNC-up
SYNCED is a fast-paced futuristic shooter with an emphasis on intense co-operative action. Consequently, our developers worked hard to effectively combine an intriguing narrative without sacrificing the fluid moment-to-moment gameplay.
Creative Director and Producer Clark Yang sits down with Narrative Director Kevin Shortt to discuss striking a balance between story and gameplay, working on such a large project remotely, and how collaborating can produce the best results:
We'd also like to give a special thanks to everyone who played our recent SYNCED demo during Steam Next Fest. We hope you enjoyed the futuristic co-operative experience we've been working on, and are excited to try the full game when it releases later this summer. Don't forget to wishlist!
