Grand Prix + Splitscreen Mode Live!

Hello Racers,





The Grand Prix / Splitscreen Update is finally here!

Along with 2 new achievements! ^(._.)^

For every piece of good news, there is also some not-as-great news, though:

Unfortunately, live servers will also be getting shut down relatively soon due to lack of playerbase, as they are very expensive - I will hopefully be rolling out the server to be downloadable and configurable yourself, so you can still have your friends play online with you - just not against strangers around the world.

V 1.1.0 - Minor Patch A

Greetings, Racers!





The first minor patch for Synthwave Racers is here!



Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where dying on the curvy part of Freezy Peak would result in a respawn with incorrect initial player gravity
  • Fixed an issue where using the jump powerup and gliding into your next surface, as opposed to landing from above it, would prevent the powerup from activating again
  • Fixed up the middle tunnel in Ragdoll City so that when you manage to enter it, you can't get stuck to the side of one of the boosts without activating it
  • Stuttering that was occurring for some players upon finishing Campaign courses should be alleviated now


Quality of Life Improvements

  • When finding and collecting a Secret Hidden Item, a UI element will now appear showing you what the item is, and whether you have unlocked it already or not


  • Xbox controller rumble is now toggle-able (Playstation rumble still isn't supported yet)
  • Target FPS is now controllable between 30, 60, 90, 120, 144, and 240
  • A full course-selection screen has now replaced the "Race Course Again?" dialogue when completing Ghost Trials courses, whether online or offline. If playing online, and you choose a course where there isn't currently an online record, it will simply place you into offline mode - but it will remember your desired mode is online still for future course selections.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where rotating obstacle speeds were affected by player framerate

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Xbox and Playstation controllers can now use the D-Pad/Arrow Pad to navigate the menus
  • Client configuration(.cfg) files are now stored in the persistent data path instead of the game installation file, so future updates will no longer overwrite your settings preferences ːsteamhappyː

The Next Fest Demo Update

Greetings Riders!



In preparation for Steam Next Fest, the demo build has been updated with a plethora of fixes, graphics updates, and even new gameplay features!





Notable Gameplay Features:



  • Gear shifts now occur when increasing or decreasing speed. There is min gear, middle gear, and max gear
  • Once you reach mid gear, you will now explode if you run straight on into a wall!
  • A new announcer voice that sounds more cyberpunky is now in the game, and has voice lines for multiple different events (such as dying, flips, countdown, goal, finish, gear shifting, and more!)
  • A ragdoll of your character will now spawn on death
  • Ragdolls fly around for a bit and interact with the level. You can even finish campaign levels with your dead body!
  • Ragdoll City Minigame - replacing the Sandbox is Ragdoll City, the adrenaline-crazed town where you compete to see how far you can send your body flying! Shoot through boost zones, get flung around by hammers, and more, to try and reach the highest score possible.
  • Added a second Ghost Trials course to the demo - Downtown Drive!




Notable Bug Fixes:



  • Falling through the floor no longer occurs
  • Improved stuttering on certain road paths
  • Fixed some issues with the Settings UI


Notable Quality of Life Improvements:



  • In-Game HUD has been redone in a more pleasant and aesthetic manner
  • Added more gameplay options, including a few settings to help reduce computing resources for those running on less powerful computers
  • Mouse hides itself when using a controller
  • Button graphics will now change to show the current input preference
  • Playstation dualshock/dualsense controller support




Graphics Updates:

  • Switched to linear color space instead of gamma
  • Adjusted lighting on all levels
  • Added color grading post processing
  • Tinkered with post processing values for bloom, blur, SSR, and AO

Development Update!



Development Update Time!



Hey small but amazing following of Synthwave Racers fans! So sorry I haven't been posting on Steam recently. I've been busy at my full time job as a game programmer (Corrtex Games is a side project, as much as I wish I could do it full time 😦).

I have been working with the official Unity Multiplayer team to get my game servers integrated into Clanforge, which will allow dynamic server allocations when doing multiplayer - this has taken way longer than I initially expected, but we are extremely close to being done!

Annnnd the more exciting update - and another reason its been delayed more - I am working on a BATTLE MODE! The first battle mode map is practically finished, which you can see right below:



Battle mode will be the same as race mode - support 8 players online, have bots to fill empty server slots, etc. - but it will be deathmatch rules, where first to a certain amount of kills will win the round.

Thank you SO MUCH BUNCH for supporting me and being patient! I have been making games professionally and on the side for years now, and this is the first time I took the leap and decided to publish an official game.

Doing everything by myself - including all the music, most models, all levels, programming, netcode, services, etc. from scratch - has clearly been an arduous and lengthy process. I got ahead of myself with releasing the game when I said I would and I am very sorry about that.

I promise the game will come out relatively soon. I've worked so hard on making sure I get rid of most of the glitches and bugs and make sure its in a solid state before releasing it. I hope it will be worth the wait! Thank you again.

We're Partnering with Unity Multiplay!



Wondering why the game still isn't out?

That's because we have some exciting news:

We are partnering with Unity Multiplay for our multiplayer servers!



Once the integration is complete, the game will be released! We really appreciate everyone's patience who are eagerly awaiting to play the game.

We believe this is the best route to take for the health and future of the game, and will make the multiplayer portion of Synthwave Racers the best possible experience for all of you!

RELEASE UPDATE - PLEASE READ!

THE BAD NEWS




Unfortunately, we had to delay the release of Synthwave Racers yet again.

"Although the game is essentially complete, I work at a large game company for my 9-5 job (Corrtex Games is my personal company that does indie games on the side, after normal work hours).

I am currently waiting for approval from my 9-5 employer's legal team, which will remain private information for legal purposes.

Hopefully, they will reach an approval decision soon, and we can get this racing party started ASAP!

Release Set For October 2022!

As development is beginning to wrap up on Synthwave Racers, the release date has been set! In just a few months, on October 27, the indie, Sci-Fi, hypersonic racing game will hit the Steam Store.



We apologize for the slight delay, but we want to make sure the game launches in an extremely good state, ready to race to your hearts content, as opposed to needing multiple updates in a row to fix issues and problems.

Wishlist now to stay up to date for future announcements, as well as get an opportunity to beta test the game and receive a unique, limited edition beta skin only available to beta testers!
