Halloween Update! (Version 0.3.0)

It's that time of year when the cold world of the data dumps is closest to our own, and beings from beyond the grave can pass from their world to our own! Halloween in SynthWaves is here!

Several new features have come to the game, with ghosts, synth-o-lanterns, and the ultra scary addition of improvements to the game's sound system! Details are as follows:

  • Added a holiday event system, which triggers certain effects at certain dates. This only works for Halloween at the moment.
  • Added a Halloween event! It runs from October 29 - October 31, though it begins on October 27.
    • Added several decorations to the main menu for the Halloween event, including dead trees and synth-o-lanterns.
    • Added a special Halloween version of the main theme.
  • Added ghost synths! They have a chance to replace any standard synth wave, though spawn in half the numbers they would ordinarily. However, they are much tougher than a standard synth, and are completely immune to corporeal damage. There is a menu option to turn off holiday spawns if they make a level too hard, however.
  • Improved the game's audio system.
  • Added cloud saves!
  • Fixed an issue with a wave in Blue World Endless where it spawned an enemy that isn't technically implemented yet.

The next major update is still in the works, and is planned to include 18 new levels, 5 new sentries, several new enemies, a new story character, a new boss, and a new endless stage.

Endless Fixes (Version 0.2.3)

Fixes some bugs specific to endless mode.

  • Fixed an issue that would occasionally prevent non-flying enemies in Endless mode from moving
  • Fixed some endless waves having the wrong variant of the intended enemy (i.e. the version of an enemy summoned by a boss)

Fixes and Improvements (Version 0.2.2)

This update fixes some issues with menus and lighting

  • Fixed an issue where the pause menu would stop working if used more than once in a single game
  • Fixed an issue where the upgrade contract and double speed button could be clicked while the game was paused
  • Fixed lighting being unbaked in all levels
  • Removed some duplicate objects that were created when returning to the main menu
  • Fixed some issues with some level's waves
  • Fixed an issue where some of the attacks of the Blue World boss would erroneously add to the enemy count without spawning enemies to subsequently reduce the enemy count, making the level unwinnable if these attacks were used.
  • Various smaller fixes

Bug Fixes (Version 0.2.1)

This patch fixes some bugs with Version 0.2.0

  • Fixed issue where sentrypedia would not properly return to the main menu when closed, leaving it impossible to play the game and sometimes impossible to quit the game.
  • Fixed some sentrypedia entries being formatted incorrectly.
  • Rebalanced Blue World Level 3 (Shields Up) to make the final wave more in line with the rest of the level's difficulty

First Content Update! (Version 0.2.0)

SynthWaves first content update, Version 0.2.0, has been released! The changes include the addition of 2 Endless Modes, the Sentrypedia, and several quality of life and accessibility changes!

  • Added Green World and Blue World Endless modes
  • Endless modes randomly select waves from a large pool of possible waves similarly to boss levels. The map is randomly generated. Map generation is subject to change.
  • Endless modes can be unlocked by getting 36 stars on levels within their respective world. This is equivalent to 2 stars on every level in the world, or 3 stars on 12 of the levels.
  • Stars required and high score is displayed underneath the Endless level button depending on whether or not the level is unlocked.
  • Added the Sentrypedia, accessible from the main menu
  • Documents every synth and sentry in the game, and unlocks more pages as more are discovered.
  • The Sentrypedia is unlocked by beating the first level.
  • Added an indicator that shows a sentry's range while a sentry is selected
  • Added an option to control sensitivity of the mouse wheel
  • Improved shadows on High and Ultra graphics settings
  • Fixed some waves that were incorrectly set up
  • Fixed bullets sometimes not dealing damage
  • Made save files easier to update for future updates

With this work done, progress on the next major update can begin, which will be the addition of Red World, with its new enemies, sentries, 18 new levels and another new endless level.

Version 0.1.3 (More Accessibility Changes)

Pushing forward the rest of the accessibility changes I had planned for the next content update.

  • Expanded the screen shake option and split it into a second option for controlling music bounce (occurs on the main menu and to the environment in levels). As they are separate, you can choose to have both, one or neither.
  • Added a confirm box if a setting is changed but not applied when backing out of the settings menu. The prompt asks if you wish to apply the changes or not.

The next update will likely be the content update, which I hope will include 2 endless modes (though they will be subject to change, as they utilize random map generation which is not currently perfect) and an in-game menu that holds information about every enemy and sentry in the game, and perhaps more. Additionally, the endless modes might contain some enemies which do not appear in any of the current levels, but that I can't promise.

Version 0.1.2 (Accessibility Changes)

Pushed forward some of the accessibility changes I had planned for the next content update.

  • Added option to disable screen shake (screen shake occurs when sentries are placed, when certain enemies die, and during boss attacks).
  • Added the ability to delete save files in-game.

There has also been some progress on the next content update, but none of those features are accessible in this version.

Small Hotfix (Version 0.1.1)

This is the game's first update, which mostly only includes a bug fix and some system changes that will make future updates faster.

  • Fixed an issue where projectiles might not collide with enemies while double speed is enabled.
  • Altered the method through which the game remembers enemies. The only noticeable change from this for now is that enemies discovered will not be discovered on all save files simultaneously. Additionally, enemies discovered before this update will be undiscovered, but this will not affect gameplay in any way as they can be rediscovered even outside the levels they were introduced in.

You can read the game release announcement here to read about some of what I hope to include in the next content update.

Big thanks to those of you who purchased early!

We've released!

SynthWaves has finally released! A big moment for me, since this is my first game. Hopefully, the first buyers come to enjoy it!

The first update should not be in too long, and I hope to include an in-game book describing all the sentries and enemies the player has encountered, 2 endless modes (one for each of the two major worlds currently implemented), and some accessibility features. Then I will begin work on the next world!

Thanks to any early buyers for the support! Unfortunately, I don't have much to say here, but you can talk more about the game on our discord, which can be found here: https://discord.gg/futCDKugrv.
