With most of the features in place we now need to start testing things out and move onto the polishing phase of the production. We’ve gotten the Steam Playtest approved but we haven't set the test live yet. Hopefully this will happen sometime next week and if you are interested in helping out you can request access from the main store page and you will get notified when the test is available. Ideally we would like to have 50 to 100 people testing the game so please help us out and share the news. Testers don’t need to pre own the game as the Playtest is treated as a separate game by Steam.
Please bare in mind that the current state of the game is beta, most of the features are in place, things need polish and proper balancing.
We hope to see you in the ring.
Taekwondo Grand Prix Development News
Character customization
Welcome back to another post about the development of the Taekwondo Grand Prix. This time around we will focus on a feature that has been at the top of requested features by both players and ourselves. The ability to customize the look of your fighter beyond the ready-made roster used in the previous version of the game.
At launch, there will be four archetypes of people to choose from, both female and male. You will be able to adjust skin tone, eye colour, hairstyle. The style of the protective gear can be customized by skins and the same goes for the Dobok. Skins will be unlocked by playing the game or winning tournaments.
Another customizable area for you to get creative with is the player portrait, which is the image that is shown before entering a match and at the result screen. Elements to showcase in the portrait will also be unlocked or given as prizes in tournaments.
Please keep in mind that the first release will contain a limited set of assets for you to use when customizing. The goal for us is to have all systems in place and then be able to expand upon based on feedback from the community. So when available, try it out and help us explore further creative options to make the player avatar more unique. Stay tuned for the next dev log.
At last some news of Taekwondo Grand Prix
What’s up with the Taekwondo Grand Prix?
The fall of 2020 we released a beta patch for the game. This was mainly a fix to get the multiplayer functionality back on its feet and to benchmark our new hosting provider. In order to test this we invited a couple of hundred players in hope that there would be some valuable feedback based on their experience. The result we got back was somewhat expected but at the same time disheartening. The overall experience was that the game lagged making it hard to throw kicks and anticipate moves by the opponent. Aside from that there were also some really nice ideas suggested that might become future gameplay features. But the lagging part could not be ignored as we strive to make this a fun online multiplayer game.
Is there any active development?
Fast forward to the present day, today we are happy to share with you what's to come of this game. We will also follow up with more posts the closer we get to release. So without further ado;
Tournaments are coming to TKD. There will be daily, weekly tournaments rolling that the users can subscribe to. There will also be the possibility for users to create their own tournaments to host for friends or for the community.
Character customization is coming to TKD making it possible to look as awesome as you like while entering the arena.
Performance tuning, yeah it’s hard to believe but this game lives on a legacy reaching all the way back to 2013. Every internal system and visual assets is being ported to the latest Unity3D giving a more robust environment for our developers to work in but at the same time a more performant game for you to enjoy.
This major update of the game will be available for free to all owners, so don’t worry that it will be branded as Taekwondo Grand Prix 2. We know this isn’t much details at the moment but we wanted to share the news with you guys with a final remark, hang in there - great things are yet to come.
Season 1 winners
Season of the Snake has come to an conclusion and we would like to thank all of you who participated in this first season, handing out kicks and throwing punches.
The winners will be contacted to arrange for how to deliver the prizes. The Season of the Ox is now LIVE and will run through September 1st. This feature a special badge for the top 3 players to claim.
What are you waiting for, see you in the arena!
JOIN OUR DISCORD
Better late than never - we now have a DISCORD.
Feel free to join us there, for tonight's event and for the future:
The introduction to the game was, to be fair, something awkward and weird and kind of inherited from the mobile days of the game. We did something about that. About time, huh.
SCORE BALANCING & RESULT SCREEN MMR
First. The reward for winning a match and the penalty for losing one wasn’t quite balanced in the way we wanted it to be. So we rebalanced it, slightly.
Second. Winning or losing - your reward or penalty in the score is now more visible and readable. Check it out in your result screen next time you finish a match.
MATCHMAKING 1: PRACTICE MODE
If you loved having nothing to do in the game while matchmaking - this is a sad update for you. Don’t worry, we’ll rip that bandaid off together, okay? Ready? Steady? Kapaow! Queueing up for a match now offers active practice mode.
MATCHMAKING 2: NEW ARENA
One could argue that the use of “NEW” is a bit exaggerated here. We simply dimmed the lights in the Dojang arena. But hey, this is in the world of games and far bigger games have gotten away with far lesser cosmetic changes and called it an E X P A N S I O N. So, here we are. A new arena. Awesome!
ANIMATIONS 1: K.O. CELEBRATION
As if winning by K.O. didn’t feel awesome enough for you - and embarrassing enough for the losing part - we just added celebrating animations to the winner. Then again, if you’re a good sport about losing, you’ll enjoy the new content as well. Because that’s who we are. A bunch of good losers. Yeah.
ANIMATIONS 2: IMPACT
Hitting someone with a kick should feel awesome. Rewarding. Juicy. Intense. Moist. Flashy. Cool. We added some more impact animations on successful kicks.
FONT SUPPORT
Letters are important. So are special characters and symbols and most of all - your names. We love your names. Our font did not reflect this love. Now it does.
BONUS: CLOTH
Apparently, our Art Director spent some time exploring some kind of cloth animation for the leaderboard. That’s on the menu screen. Apparently, that was “totally necessary”. And apparently, it only took a “reasonable amount of time” to implement it. So, apparently, it’s in the game now. Leaderboard cloth. It’s a thing.
PS. Our Art Director’s name in the game is Filip. Extra kudos for beating him.

MONDAY SERVER MAINTENANCE
The new update and all its awesome content is going live on Monday and for that, we need to bring down the servers for a while.
More exactly, servers will be down between 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 13th.
In connection with this, all old rankings will be reset as the first ever Taekwondo Grand Prix Season goes live! We're really excited to be able to take this game to the next level and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have.
(That very focused-looking dude to the left in the picture is TKD Grand Prix's very own Producer Eric, being right in the middle of an intense round of PUBG and having no idea what so ever that he was also modelling for this post.)
UPDATES IN MAY!
Yes! Grand stuff is coming your way and we are really excited to take the Taekwondo Grand Prix to the next level. Here’s what to expect!
KNOCK OUT
It’s never really over until it’s really over! This powerful move can turn an entire match around (and finish it) and is the perfect way to punish aggressive players not minding their stamina.
KICKS
Looking for kicks? We got them. All kinds of kicks for you here. High kicks. Low kicks. TURNING kicks! Most importantly, we’ve got some brand new kicks for you. 7 of them, actually. Kicks, that is. Anything else, look somewhere else but if it's kicks that you’re looking for - we got kicks.
STAMINA SYSTEM OVERHAUL
We’re very happy about our “stamina-instead-of-health-bar”, and have of course explored it further. Some kicks will drain stamina from your opponent, the instant or over-time cost for a move is revamped so yeah, better get that cardio going.
GLOBAL RANKING
In the name of international solidarity and to underline the fact that we are all the same, sharing our lives on this planet together - rankings are now global. Peace!
CONTROLS (+ INPUT BUFFERING)
Controls are almost entirely remapped. Kicks are not where they used to be and a bunch of new, excellent moves, have been put in there. We also solved a bunch of technical issues with the previous version.
CONTROLS (OVERVIEW)
Who thought martial arts could be so complicated? Well, with new moves, remapped controls and all that new and good stuff in the game - we had to update the pause menu overview. It’s juicy now. And informative.
BADGES & MMR
Ever felt confused regarding how the ranking system and badges work? You might find comfort in the fact that so did we. Jokes aside, it wasn’t as clear as we wished it to be, so we made it more transparent, created new badges and added a progress bar.
SEASONAL COMPETITIONS (+WIPING CURRENT RANKS)
Winter is coming. Spring as well. And summer and… Ehm. Wait. SEASONS are coming! And they bring awards for winners. We’re resetting all current ranks and hope for everyone to feel as excited as we are. Good luck!
