Tales Across Time

Steam Autumn Sale Discounts!

Well guys, Autumn is here (except for those of us who live in Australia where it’s getting HOT!) and of course, that means its time for the Steam Autumn Sale!

And what’s a Steam sale without a Critical Games discount? Tales Across Time is once again participating, making an already cheap game even cheaper! At just $2.69 USD, you really can't beat that price (literally - take it from the guy who sets the price!) ;)

Additionally, my previous game 8-Bit Adventures is 60% off! That means you can own it for just $4 USD! You can also get the fantastic Remastered Soundtrack 30% off ($3.50 USD), or the Game + Soundtrack bundle 45% off (that’s only $6.60 USD)!

Unfortunately, I have nothing to show about 8-Bit Adventures 2 this time, but please know that we’re all working very hard and I’m doing my absolute best to make sure it’s ready as soon as possible. With that said, I'll be back in December with something special ;)

So if you want to keep up with all the latest updates as they happen, follow @CriticalGamesAU on Twitter!

Thank you very much and, for those of you in the US, have a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Happy Halloween - Spooky New 8-Bit Adventures 2 Screenshots!

Happy Halloween everyone!

To mark the occasion, I'm revealing a glimpse at two of the most 'spooky' areas found in the upcoming sequel to 8-Bit Adventures!

First up, we have a poisoned, infested forest that might look a bit familiar to fans...

Next we have the Burial Grounds! In this fog covered, Japanese graveyard, the dead are rising...

That's all for now, but 8-Bit Adventures 2 is progressing well, so I hope to show more as soon as possible =D

And for all the latest updates on 8-Bit Adventures 2, make sure to follow @CriticalGamesAU on Twitter!

Weeklong Sale Discounts + 8-Bit Adventures 2 Interview with Retrogamesmaster!

G'day! I hope everyone's doing great =D It's been a little while since my last post, so I just wanted to provide a small update.

Retrogamesmaster Interview

First off, I was interviewed by the fantastic retrogamesmaster.co.uk! We discussed 8-Bit Adventures 2, how I got into development, favourite and least favourite games, and much more! I had a great time responding to the questions and I sincerely appreciate their asking me to participate, so I hope it's an enjoyable read!

Well over 2000 people have Tales Across Time on their Wishlist, and over 3000 still want 8-Bit Adventures! The discounts won't get any lower - at least not for a very long time - so if you're interested, this week is a perfect opportunity to pick up some RPG action AND contribute to the development of 8-Bit Adventures 2! Speaking of which...

8-Bit Adventures 2 Progress Report

Development of 8-Bit Adventures 2 is progressing well - still a long way to go, sadly, but I'm really happy with the way it's turning out! Most of my time at the moment is spent constructing the environments, and I can safely say that this is going to be a much more diverse and varied adventure than the last.

Beyond that, the artist (Jerram Fahey) has been doing an incredible job creating the graphics for said environments, as well as the various NPCs (who will also be much more diverse). Even though I ask for specific assets, he always manages to surprise me, so I really can't wait to show you all more of his work!

And the composer (Carfonu) has already produced some fantastic, catchy tunes that I can't get out of my head (the Coastal Town, which you can see a screenshot of in the previous update, is a particular favourite of mine)!

That's All Folks!

As always, I’ll post future updates here on Steam, but I also highly recommend following @CriticalGamesAU on Twitter, as that’s the best way I’ve found to keep up-to-date on news!

I sincerely appreciate your continued patience and support, and I hope this Weeklong Sale allows even more players to enjoy 8-Bit Adventures and Tales Across Time!

Summer Sale Discounts + 8-Bit Adventures 2 First Look!!!

It’s Summertime, so you know what that means! Well, unless you’re like me and live in Australia where it’s currently Winter…in which case you might be a bit confused. But regardless of where you live, today marks the start of that yearly tradition known as the Steam Summer Sale! =D

But enough of my groaning, let’s get to the point - Tales Across Time is making its discount début, turning an already cheap game even cheaper! At $2.69 USD, it’s a steal ;)

But these great deals only last until the end of the Summer Sale (11 days), so get in quick!

Now, as you probably saw in the title, I also have something very special for fans – your first glimpse at 8-Bit Adventures 2! Now, I say first glimpse because everything is still very early and this is a big project. But as I’ve been making everyone wait so long, I really wanted to put something out there =) Also, please note that the game will not be called '8-Bit Adventures 2' – it’s just a working title (I'll try to have something better next time!).

But, without further adieu, here’s your first look at the game:

Not only can you see that 8-Bit Adventures 2 will feature plenty of new environments, but you probably also noticed a new player character! I won’t say much about him, but he’s one of the six main party members in the game. And if you played 8-Bit Adventures 1, you’ve most likely met him before ;)

But, of course, there are also plenty of returning characters and environments! I’m really trying to find a balance between old and new locations, but even returning areas will look significantly improved. And most have been heavily redesigned (albeit with a few nods to their original form).

Speaking of which, above you can see a screenshot comparison of a map from the new Red Mage Tower compared to the same location in 8-Bit Adventures 1. Not only has Thief has had a great redesign, but you can also see that the graphics are worlds apart, despite sticking to the same 8-Bit aesthetic.

And that’s because this time around, the graphics are being created by a professional sprite artist, Jerram Fahey. He made the character graphics for 8-Bit Adventures 1, but at the time I didn’t have enough money to hire him to create other assets.

Thanks to the sales of 8-Bit Adventures and Tales Across Time, my funding situation has improved – and I’m pouring almost all of the money I’ve earned from those games into this project. So by purchasing my games, you’re directly funding 8-Bit Adventures 2; for which I have to say a big thank you in advance! =D

And finally, what’s an 8-Bit inspired RPG without a World Map? While this screenshot probably looks quite familiar (I don’t want to show off much just yet), I can say that the world has seen some massive changes. Hopefully those changes are something that fans of the first game will really enjoy discovering!

Now I know it's not a lot, but I hope that gives fans something to look forward to. I’ll post future updates here on Steam, but I also highly recommend following @CriticalGamesAU on Twitter, as that’s the best way I’ve found to keep up-to-date on news!

Additionally, as was described on the Tales Across Time Greenlight page back in February, I am still planning to provide an ‘early look’ demo of 8-Bit Adventures 2 to players of Tales Across Time on Steam; as a special thank you for fans who keep up with all of Critical Games releases. Stay tuned for information in the coming months, but at the moment, I’m just completely focused on development.

Thank you all so much for your support, and I hope this year's Summer Sale gives even more players the chance to start a new adventure! =D

It's been a long road - the transition from contest entry to fully-fledged game took a lot of work, but I am so grateful to everyone who helped Tales Across Time get Greenlit. This simply wouldn't be possible without your support! =D

I’m really excited for players to get their hands on Tales Across Time. While it’s a very different style of game to 8-Bit Adventures, I think it’s got a lot of the same charm.

At the end of the day, I develop games because I want to make people happy. The response to 8-Bit Adventures was absolutely incredible, and I really felt like I achieved that goal. So I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys Tales Across Time!

Thank you all SO much for your patience and support. Have fun! =D
