Northlands - 5 Days to Go

6 months in the making, the Northlands update brings 40 new monsters and 40 new quests.

August Dev Log - Back in Black

Welcome back to the Tales of Yore Dev log! The last couple of months have been pretty slow paced and I even missed a devlog last month while trying to get back on track. However, this month, I'm back in the groove and things are progressing at a hell of a rate. August has been a very productive month and I'm now on track for the Northlands release in September! So, lets go!

Tales of Yore leaves Early Access

Tales of Yore has reached a stability level where it can come out of Early Access. This is a huge milestone and is in preparation for the next massive game content update next month.

Updates continue at their normal frantic pace but the game is now stable enough for anyone to play.

Hope to see you in game soon!

April Dev Log - The Beat Goes On, for Two Years?

April Dev Log

You can find the latest dev log over here:

It's really been 2 years since the start of development of Tales of Yore. Come check out how the game has changed!

Keys to the Kingdom

The final and probably biggest change this month - and certainly the #1 asked for feature - keyboard control. Up to this point I'd be worrying about this one, the game was designed with a network model (lockstep-ish) that made me feel like keyboard control would never work. I'd actually tried it a couple of times over the last two years and never got anything close to usable.

Pet the Doggo

The latest developer log is up here - pets, mounts and bug fixes!

So whats this Tales of Yore thing anyway?

So, whats this Tales of Yore thing anyway? We're coming up on our second birthday and we're starting to see a decent increase in players. What's it all about?

Tales is intended to be an "old school" MMORPG - that means, it's hard, you have to spend time working stuff out and the fun is in exploring. The game is big enough now to take 100s of hours to full explore and has built up a friendly positive community (we don't really stand for the normal toxic behaviour on these things).

Bits you might not like (or alternatively might be the best thing in the world):

  • There's no Player vs Player combat - it just generates negative community aspects so the game doesn't have it. It won't have it, ever.
  • There's no concept of pay to win - if we find anything that can be abused that way, it gets removed. You can pay to subscribe if you want to support the game but everyone is equal, pay or not.
  • You have to work stuff out - Tales doesn't take the approach that players need to be lead by the nose through the game. If you're more in to being told to go to X, then go to Y, this probably isn't going to work for you.
  • It's hard - you can die easily by walking into the wrong place without taking care. When you die you can lose gold and equipment (though not always or everything). Luckily there are generally people around to help you back up.
  • Its early access - things are always changing, there are normally a couple of releases each day with bug fixes, balance changes and new features.

So, if you have time and are up for the challenge. Come along and play before we reach the year 2 party - theres bound to be some birthday gifts around!
