TankDestruction

The map update is here!

The long-awaited maps are finally here! Download for free: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1007540/TankDestruction/

Are you bored of having one, giant map? Do you tire of the same boring bridges? Me too! Which is why there are now more maps!

  • A desert map, with a lake in the middle!
  • A forest map, with small houses around!
  • An extremely hilly map!

Destroy your opponents on deserts, forests, or hills! These new maps have their own unique features, and each offer interesting gameplay.

The Speed skill has also been buffed - On the hilly map, you can even use it to fly! I'll let you work it out. ;)

So, what are you waiting for? Download the update today! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1007540/TankDestruction/
Happy shooting!

The health update & skins are cheaper now.

  • All player tanks have had their health doubled!
  • Minor bugs have been fixed (e.g. engine noise could disappear if too many other noises existed on some sound systems).
  • Cost of premium skins changed to $4.

I felt that player tanks did not have enough of an impact on the game, especially as they could be killed easily. This meant that players had to rely on the support of AI tanks, rather than being able to charge in alone.

Enjoy!
Joe

The stability update

A new update has been released! This update focuses on improving stability and fixing minor bugs. Here are the most significant changes:

  • Movement of player tanks over the network has been made significantly smoother.
  • Audio from AI tanks now plays properly - bullets will still make sounds even if two tiger tanks shoot each other.
  • Teleport skill now works as intended - teleporting the player to a random nearby location.

The largest problem that I had to overcome was smoothing the movement of the player tanks. I was using Unity's NetworkTransform previously, but because the NetworkTransform is utter rubbish, I had to code my own solution from scratch.

Happy shooting!

Upcoming features

Hi all!

After the initial release, I have had reports of some minor problems that I will be looking to solve in the next update. These are:

  • When looking at other player tanks, they do not move smoothly enough.
  • Tiger tanks + Turrets do not make audio when hitting each other, as opposed to player tanks.
  • Teleport skill does not always seem to work as properly intended.
  • Matchmaker sometimes incorrectly believes there are more players in a server than there actually are (note, this isn't noticeable to players).

That said, I am happy with the initial release, despite these issues. The game not only appears to be playable, but also enjoyable.

I also plan to add additional features as soon as possible. This include:

Short term:

  • More abilities (e.g. damage absorption, hovering, etc).

Long term:

  • More maps!
  • Add chat to the game (this will need a reporting system, moderating, etc).

Thanks to everyone for playing so far! In particular, thanks to someone called something like john_doe (or doe_john?) for a good few PVP battles. It's been good for me to test out the system. The not-so-smooth player movement is definitely a problem that I feel needs fixing ASAP.

Cheerio!
Joe

PS, Thanks to trandafirmaria07 for being the first person to get blown up since release.

TankDestruction release on 10th of July!

Hello again!

TankDestruction is now preparing to release on the 10th of July. Progress is going well, with only some minor problems to be ironed out in the next couple of days before release.

The initial release of TankDestruction will only be on Windows. This is because it is a good starting point for a release. However, TankDestruction will in future become compatible with OSX and Linux as well.

I'm not expecting this first release to be 100% bug free. However, I am expecting it to be 95% bug free, playable, and enjoyable.

In the first few days, I will be closely monitoring the server infrastructure to ensure that it is all working properly.

Please report any bugs in the discussion section (at least for now), and I'll take a look whenever I can.

Enjoy!
Joe

Release delayed until 10th of July

Hi all!

I'm just writing this post to let you know that TankDestruction's release is being delayed for a short while. This is to allow time for the build to be approved by Steam, as well as sort out a few irritating problems with multiplayer.

The good news is that TankDestruction is getting closer and closer to release. See you all next week! :)
