Developer Update

Since the game’s last update, we’ve fully shifted our focus to developing the Campaign remake.
While it’s a massive undertaking, we haven’t slowed down one bit. In fact, we’ve doubled down. We’re adding more content, new power-ups (A LOT.), tons of features, and a wave of updates to the AI, goalies, and much more.

The reworked campaign is currently being tested by a small group of players, and we’re keeping a close eye on their feedback, tweaking, experimenting, and having a blast in the process. We’re gradually expanding the testing group and will continue doing so until we’re ready to open it up for everyone to try out. We do not have a set ETA until launch.
If you are interested in becoming a tester, you can join our Discord!

Main game updates

As mentioned before, a lot of new content is being added to the game.
Because of how extensive these changes are, we’ve decided to pause updates to the main game for now and fully focus our development efforts on the campaign rework. However, the Alpha version of the Campaign Rework will be available to all soon!

The features we’re working on are all interconnected, and updating just one part of the game in isolation would be trickier and less efficient. Instead, we’re aiming to deliver one big update down the line, one that will not only overhaul the campaign but enhance the entire game experience.

Campaign Remake - Development Progression & Teasers

This campaign remake doesn’t just revamp the campaign, it transforms the entire game. With over 50 new power-ups added on top of the existing ones (some of which have been rebalanced or redesigned), chaos is guaranteed.

Campaign 2.0 is a complete overhaul of the original campaign in Tape to Tape, with a ton of new features, power-ups, teams, and overall variety. Here's what you can expect:

  • A full rework of core systems, including major changes in and outside of matches (events, node structures, pathing, and progression)
  • Removal of the shop and puck currency system
  • Rework of the legacy Elite and Power-Up unlocking systems
  • Introduction of new Squads with unique playstyles to start your runs
  • More Elite Teams and Bosses
  • A wide variety of new Relics, Power-Ups, and Upgrades
  • Additional node types across the world map & more paths
  • Introduction of injuries, Free Agents, and more control over your lineup and bench

Out with the old, in with the new.

Here's a breakdown of the changes coming in the Campaign Remake:

Squads

Squads act as your starting loadout when beginning a new run. Think of them as pre-built squads, each designed around a distinct gameplay style or strategy. While they provide a unique foundation, your decisions throughout the run will shape how the team evolves and adapts. Completing a run with a Squad will unlock new ones, each offering fresh gameplay twists and challenges to explore.

Injuries, Bench & Player Management

Injuries are now a thing in Tape to Tape!
From impaired vision affecting shot accuracy, to shoulder damage weakening bodychecks, hand injuries reducing shot power, or banged-up feet slowing your skaters down, injuring the opposition has never been more strategic (or satisfying.. right?). But be warned, when your players get hurt, you may need to find replacements until they’re back in shape.

Even if a player isn’t injured, you might still want to swap them out. Whether it’s to strengthen your long-term roster or to capitalize on a short-term powerhouse who brings a burst of elite performance for just a few games. That said, landing on an Injury node to patch up one of your own can still be a game-changer!

Rotating your bench between games can also be a smart move, especially when you need specific attributes to counter the strengths of upcoming opponents. Strategic substitutions could be the key to victory!

New Nodes

So long, Event Node and say hello to a whole new set of nodes on your path to glory!
The world map has also been reworked, now featuring multiple path options that give you more meaningful choices as you progress!

New Power-ups

With all the new stuff being added, of course power-ups are part of the package! We’ve been working on over 50 new power-ups (and we're not done yet.), along with reworks and balance changes to the existing ones.

Finding fun and creative power-up synergies has always been one of our goals with Tape to Tape, and we’re super excited to see how the new additions will open up even more ways to play!

A little mix of farts and shots? Why not.

While some of the new power-ups are more on the fun and goofy side, they still serve a purpose and can come in handy. Others, though, might be a bit rarer but they’ll pack a much bigger punch when it comes to impact and rewards! We haven't forgotten about goalies, they are getting their fair share of power-ups too!

Roadmap & Plans

This time, we won’t be including our usual roadmap preview.
That’s because we’re working on many interconnected features at once, making it harder to lay out a clear timeline or order of what's coming next.

Instead, moving forward, we'll share teasers of what’s actually coming in the next patches.
This approach should help reduce confusion and set clearer expectations.

This new power-up ties into an upcoming Elite Team. Can you guess what the power-up is and which team it's for?

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the next update?
A: No ETA at this time. Join our Discord to stay in touch with the team!

Q: Can I test the new campaign?
A: You sure can. Once we open applications on Discord, you’ll be able to apply!

Q: Is Online coming?
A: Nope. Online is not planned for Tape to Tape at this time due to the game’s structure. In short, it would require a complete rebuild from the ground up to work properly online. However, Steam Remote Play is still an option to play with your friends!

Q: Are there more customization options in the works?
A: Yes! Lots of new stuff is coming down the line.

Q: Franchise mode? Extra modes?
A: No Franchise mode planned for Tape to Tape. That said, we might add extra modes much later after the official release.

Q: Is Butcher going to get better?
A: We're cooking up goalie power-ups as we speak. He’s on the right path. Don’t worry.

Got more questions? Post them below and we’ll be happy to answer!

That’s all for now!

We hope you enjoyed this Summer Development Update. We’re incredibly excited to share more of the campaign remake, and even more excited to get more people involved in testing!

As always, thank you for your continued support and passion for the game.

Stay tuned!

PATCH NOTES 0.1.17

Hello everyone, this is Patch Notes 0.1.17!

Here are the key topics covered in this patch:

  • Gameplay updates
  • We need your help!
  • Roguelite Campaign 2.0 Open Testing
  • Roadmap Update & Teasers

    General

  • Improvements made to the AI in the defensive zone

Changes were made to AI positioning and puck pursuit in various situations. This should also help reduce occasional clutter in front of the net

  • Curve ball talent now gives the player a curved hockey stick

  • The Disco Team should show more in the rotation of Act 3 Elite Teams

    Goalies

  • Goalies will now butterfly slide more often to get in position for rebounds
  • Updated Goalie pads and mitts colors for the following : Calaveras, Cheese, Lettuce, Golfers

    Hockey FC

  • Both teams will now play stickless, kick that ball!
(the football... the soccer ball... sigh)
  • Removed the wall of players in front of the net
  • Increased the net size

The wall felt like it created too much clutter, was too easy to bypass, and restricted valuable shooting space. The Hockey FC team may receive another round of updates in the future. We’d love to hear your ideas on how to improve the foothockey experience!

    Crusaders

  • The Jerseys now displays Roman numerals

  • Fixed major issue that guaranteed goals at extremely steep angles

Yep! We're sorry to say that this bug has been around for a little while. This fix should help reduce some of the soft goals that goalies would normally allow. Apologies for any broken controllers, keyboards, other hardware...

  • Fixed Keybind UI navigation with controller/keyboard
  • Player sprite updates and corrections
  • Several minor animation corrections
  • Fixed a bug where players would have bright red arms and a glitched logo when using the Spiked Armor power-up
  • Fixed some of the aura's VFX
  • Fixed a bug where the raining meatballs would become gigantic (YUGE) after a player scored a hat trick

    This isn't Photoshopped...

  • Fixed an issue where some matches in tournament series were not being recorded
  • Fixed background UI being selected upon returning from a match

  • Fixed an issue where team colors were not saving properly
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash in the Team Editor after replacing a team's pre-built skater with a custom skater

    In Other News...

Well, first little spoiler: There will be Free Agents in Campaign 2.0. With that said, we need you to give us your best name ideas! Here are the instructions and restrictions:
  • Has to be related to Hockey (can be a mix of Hockey and Golf/Soccer. MAY accept a mix of hockey and other sports.)
  • Can be somewhat PG. Racism, homophobia, or discrimination will not be tolerated
  • Must be posted in the comments of these patch notes

Looking forward to having a good laugh reading the names!

We are happy to announce that we are getting very close to a playable Alpha Version of Campaign 2.0! This time, however, it will not require you to join our Discord to become a tester. We will simply make an experimental testing branch available to all directly on Steam.

Your feedback has always been impactful on the development of Tape to Tape, and it will be essential as we rework the Campaign. While the main game’s updates may be smaller for some time, we will keep updating the testing branch and adding new content regularly.

More information to come in the next Patch. We are very excited for you to give it a try and share your feedback and ideas!

Here's a couple of new nodes you will be encountering during your runs!

    Roadmap Update & Teasers

While some progress has been made on a few parts of the Roadmap, most of the focus was on the Campaign 2.0. However, we did progress on...

    Fighting

Originally, we took a very "vanilla" approach to fights, but then we realized... farts could be a lethal weapon once the gloves come off. With that said, expect more power-ups to gain a lot more potential, now that they can be used against your dance partner!

We're getting closer to a testable version of the fights as we continue to bring more of our ideas to life.

    Expect chaos.

    A new challenger approaches...

One thing's for sure: we're not done adding new teams to the game! We have plenty of prototypes in the works, and some are already getting their artwork done as we speak. This upcoming team? Definitely a sellout!

We hope you're excited for the next patch, which will kick off the experimental branch testing phase! As always, we truly appreciate your feedback. Feel free to join our Discord community to chat with us!

    See you soon!

GAME UPDATE - PATCH NOTES 0.1.16

    Patch Notes 0.1.16

Patch 0.1.16 introduces a complete UI overhaul along with a variety of additions, gameplay improvements, and system enhancements. We will also go over the progression of the roadmap going into 2025 right away!

    Roadmap

As pleased as we are with the current progression on the roadmap, we’re incredibly excited about what’s on the horizon! We’re aiming to release an alpha version of the Roguelite Campaign 2.0 to our Beta Testers in early 2025. While this will still be a significant work-in-progress, we’ll make sure to incorporate all your feedback as we refine it further. We know we’ve been teasing it for a while, but soon we’ll finally be able to share it with our beloved testers!

If you haven’t already, be sure to join our Discord to get involved and test out all the exciting upcoming features!

    UI Rework

As we continue developing the 2.0 version of the campaign, the UI overhaul was a much-needed update. Being able to see your power-ups on each players during a game was a highly requested feature. It was designed with your feedback in mind, and we still need your input! Let us know what you think about it!

The following are toggle-able options in the Settings Menu:

  • You may now see the team's artefacts and the power-ups of the player currently in control of the puck!

  • Skaters can now display their active power-ups above their heads!

  • Team Customization now features the newly revamped UI
  • You can now rotate your skater during Skater Customization to get a full 360° view of your creation

  • New UI Animations for Tournament Menu

    • Improvements to pass direction calculation and pass reception
    • Enhanced goalie rebound mechanics
    • Goalies will butterfly more frequently during breakaways
    • Adjusted checking formula: vulnerability and size differences no longer always guarantee a successful hit
    • AI now occasionally misses their body checks
    • Removed the "Swap to Goalie" function. Players can only control the goalie when position-locked or if the goalie has possession of the puck

    • Fixed an issue where you'd lose control of a position-locked goalie at the end of a period
    • Setting a locked position away from the skater with the puck no longer incorrectly shows your player color above them
    • Fixed an issue with goal replays
    • Tentative fix for one-timer sound sometimes playing too soon
    • Fixed an issue with animation mixing during faceoffs

  • New Camera Settings: Alternating, Always Up, Always Down
  • Underlying changes to how sprites are split up, which will pave the way for even more customization options in the future! Stay tuned for exciting new features down the line.

    Final Notes

And that wraps up our final Patch Notes of 2024! There’s so much ahead in 2025, and we’re buzzing with excitement about what’s to come. A huge thank you to everyone for your continued love and support. We absolutely love reading your reviews and feedback and interacting with our amazing community.
