GAME UPDATE - PATCH NOTES 0.1.11

Hey everyone! Happy New Year!



Patch 0.1.11 brings several changes to bodychecks, pokechecking, animations, and bug fixes!

Gameplay Changes




  • Pokechecking Reworks

    Pokechecking was a feature that felt non-existent for the longest time, primarily because there was no visual feedback. Now, when engaging in a stick-to-stick battle with the opposing puck carrier, an animation will trigger. Pokechecking proves to be a solid tool, especially when facing a larger opponent that you can't bodycheck. It's worth noting that the pokechecking range decreases with higher game difficulty, but it is now more accurate than before!

    Additionally, changes were made to the puck when a player is pokechecked. The puck will flip a little higher, making it easier for takeaways.




  • Bodychecking Formula Reworks

    Ever stacked up the absolute Terminator with over 100 bodychecking stat and still got staggered or knocked down by the smallest player going at 1MPH?
    Not anymore! We've tweaked the bodychecking formula to better determine when a player gets staggered or knocked down by a bodycheck.

    Remember, your skating speed before delivering a bodycheck is crucial. However, if a player has a significantly lower bodychecking stat than their opponent, different results may occur based on the skating speed before the hit. If the speed and checking stat of an opponent are weaker, chances are your Terminator won't even get staggered! On the flip side, a player with a heavy bodychecking stat AND speed will crush those smaller players!"

    It's a work in progress, and we'll certainly consider all feedback to make further adjustments!


  • Players bodychecked along the boards will no longer clip through it



  • Turning and Shooting animations are now smoother

    Turning, pivoting to backward skating, and shooting animations are now more crisp, providing better overall feedback.


  • Blockshot colliders increased
  • Greasy Lettuce & Golfers' goalies butterfly speed slightly nerfed
  • Minor AI changes

Bug Fixes



  • Fixed a bug where a one-timer pass would go much faster than expected
  • Fixed a bug where changing your players' positions (Line-up menu) while in-game would cause a bug in their positions during faceoffs
  • Fixed a bug where settings would not carry over after the next time the game is launched
  • Minor visual fixes to jerseys and helmets
  • Fixed a bug where Golfers' bench players would have no bodies
  • Tentative fix where the referee would not drop the puck on faceoffs


Known Issues

  • Customization feature may cause crashes and could be nonfunctional for Steam Deck users due to being manageable with keyboard and mouse only, we apologize for the inconvenience and will resolve the issue as soon as possible.
  • Minor visual bugs with players' numbers and names
  • Visual issue with celebrations (notably hand disappearing when doing the "Jagr salute")
  • Graphical issue with players' scoring banners wearing an extra helmet or misplaced helmet
  • Minor texture issues

We have talked quite a bit about the Roguelite Campaign rework and that is our next step. This includes a lot of reworks and changes which includes:

  • Better progression system
  • Better gameplay loop
  • More Elite teams
  • Alternate Bosses (More information below)
  • Different ways to acquire power-ups & trainings
  • Ability to upgrade your goaltender throughout your runs (Goodbye bad Butcher)

Will we be able to use our own customized team for the campaign?

It's very likely, as we love the idea of bringing your own squad for a challenge. This may be included in the campaign rework.


Will there be more AI strategies (Defensive & Offensive)

Absolutely! We're eager to expand the team archetypes you can build throughout your runs and delve deeper into AI behavior!


Will there be more challenges other than first to score a goal against the Spartans?

We are definitely exploring more variants of challenges that feel both challenging and rewarding.


More game modes & Online?

We would love to, but that is something we will look into after the campaign rework. We understand that it is heavily requested!

Goalie Customization & Rework



The time has come to customize your goaltender, including an exciting rework to their skills and behaviors!

Goaltenders now have more attributes, enabling them to possess their own identity, strengths, and weaknesses (especially in the Campaign mode)! These changes were vital in preparing for the upcoming campaign rework, where goaltenders will be upgradeable during your runs. No more "BUTCHER SUCKS" coming in the future!



Goalies now have the following attributes:

  • Skill - The main attribute that determines the goalie's efficiency
  • Glove
  • Blocker
  • Five-Hole
  • Catching Skill
  • Control - How well the goalie stays in his crease especially after a butterfly push
  • Standing Speed - Quickness when standing up
  • Butterfly Speed - Quickness when in butterfly
  • Pokecheck
  • Pass Power
  • Shot Power
  • Depth - How far the goalie gets out of his crease



Gameplay & Bug Fixes



  • Headshot Redirect ability updated - You can now aim at player you to like to use the ability on
  • Princess team changes - They now use their farts a little differently...
  • Added player names on jerseys
  • Loading transitions in and out of the game are now smoother
  • Fixed a bug with goalie passes when close to the net
  • Fixed Tutorial bugs
  • Fixed a bug where player's heads were detached from their body in the power-up selection screen

Customization

  • Players will now be at their proper positions on the ice according to the customization screen
  • Fixed a bug with the delay in switching teams in customization
  • Goalies equipped skills are enabled
  • New goalie sprites with colored helmets

Welcome to Patch 0.1.9 - Customization Feature Beta!



We have been teasing it for quite a while and here it is!


Create-a-Player


Now, you can create your own player with the selection of faces and sticks available in the game. Choose their abilities and talents, and give them the stats they truly deserve!



Once your 5-player squad is created, let's dive into creating your own custom team!

Create-a-Team


Now, you can select your own newly created players and assign them to a new team! Enjoy total freedom in picking any shirt color with our fully customizable color palette, allowing you to use any color code! (This link is pretty handy should you want to recreate any professional teams)

Select your team's logo, artefacts, Home, and Away jerseys! We've added a few more logos, in addition to the original ones in the game, for y'all to enjoy. We hear you asking already: "What about custom logos?" Heard. Unfortunately, custom logos are not supported at this time. HOWEVER, you are still able to upload your custom logos within the game files (More information below).



When your team is ready to rock and roll, dive into the Play Now mode and give it a shot!

Update - Patch Notes 0.1.8



Hey everyone!



A smaller patch this week, but we are still working hard in preparation for the Customization Feature and the new team coming out sooner than later! We can't wait to show you guys some teasers and have y'all build your own squads!

Gameplay

  • Added a new shot-block feature (PS: L1 / XB: LB)
    Definitely still in development and barebones, but we thought you guys would enjoy testing it out. We'll be working on it as time goes by..
  • General smoothing of a few animations
  • Mega-lob ability improvements and fixes
  • There’s a new Referee in town!
    We heard you. The previous one was a bit bland. Hope you like the ol' blind man.
  • The Briberee relic has been reworked.
    He will only be hunting the enemy team, but he is much slower. Let us know what you think!
  • Fixed a bug where a player without a stick would still be targeted by a pass (ie: a player with Berserk)
  • Goalies' glove and blocker colliders on the enemy teams have been slightly reduced
    We're still experimenting with changes to goalies to make them feel fair and consistent on both sides. While we understand that goalies can be weaker in certain situations, we are committed to ensuring that they feel balanced in the long run!




System

  • The Stats tab now compiles your stats from all modes, including Campaign mode and Play Now.
  • The in-game timer now counts the time from the start to the end of the run, including out-of-game events.

This patch includes numerous bug fixes, reworks, and work-in-progress features. As always, your feedback is heard and always welcome!

Gameplay


  • Passing formula reworked
    Better mechanic estimation, which should be a good step towards fixing the frustration of instances where your passes would not go where the player aims
  • AI behaviour with the puck
    New tentative (also a work in progress, and we are open to all feedback)
  • Fixed a bug where all the AI players would stop moving when taking a shot
  • Reduced poke checking range
  • Improved Mega-lob ability
  • Fixed a bug with Ozzie Oi Oi Oi
    He's got the groove, but he was dancing a little too much there
  • Turning animations rework
    Now looks and feels much smoother
  • Goalies passes when in butterfly stance are now faster
  • Improvements to goalie’s rebound physics
  • Fixed an issue where the goalie would always catch the puck with his glove at all times, leaving no rebounds - It now depends on the goalie’s skill and the shot quality
  • Fixed an issue where you could not call a pass from the goaltender when player-locked
  • Fixed Prince Tristan’s special shot where it would sometimes be saved by the goalie
    His special shot at full power is meant to be an automatic goal; make sure to bodycheck that schmuck
  • Fixed an issue where Prince Tristan would disarm his own teammates
    See, he was even annoying to his own team!
  • Fixed the camera where it was locked to the puck instead of the player when locking a position
  • The Golfer’s speed has been slightly reduced
  • Fixed a bug with the Head-shot Redirect ability combined with X-Ray
  • Players now get knocked out by the puck more easily the less checking you have


System


  • Added an in-game run timer to the end of run stats screen
  • Added lifetime stats in the settings screen
  • Game-pad colors fixed – The first controller will be red, and the second controller is now blue (previously was red and orange, which was confusing)
  • Fixed a bug where conceding a match in Campaign mode would result in a win
  • Updated Credits
  • Added/Replaced soundbites of the home announcer (more to come)
  • Fixed minor sound issues

Howdy!

We hope you had a great summer season!

First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for your patience over these past few months.

We recognize that it's been quite a wait, and we can't thank you enough for sticking with us. We sincerely apologize for the lack of updates and communication. You deserve better from the Tape to Tape team.

We won't delve too much into the personal issues causing the delay, but rest assured, it was a combination of life events and some foundational challenges with the game's structure that we had to address. To move forward with Tape to Tape, we realized it was necessary to take a step back, reevaluate our approach, and rework the game's underlying systems.

The good news? We had a long list of technical issues with the game that were holding us back from adding more content. The structure itself was so limited that nothing more could be added. Now, we're happy to announce that this will no longer be an issue. This has also allowed us to start working on the Customization feature, among many other exciting things. Keep an eye out for that!

We remain as dedicated and passionate as ever about Tape to Tape, and we're doubling down on our commitment to regular communication and updates. As a team, we've taken responsibility for the delay and are committed to moving forward, continuing to listen to the community as we have since day one. You're a part of our journey, and we value every bit of feedback, critique, and support you bring our way.

Patch 0.1.6



Dev notes:
As much as this may appear to be a lengthy list, it primarily focuses on addressing small bug fixes and tweaks. However, significant work was done to improve the GOALIES and AI! Investing time and work into both, particularly goalies, was crucial. Our goal is to ensure that when we introduce goalie power-ups, we have the best possible goalie AI infrastructure in place. This will give goalies their own unique identity, making each one feel distinct from the others. It should also bring us peace by slowly killing the inconsistent goaltending in the game.

Gameplay



    Goaltender rework
  • Improvements to shot quality calculation
  • New animations
  • Improved timings and slides
  • More aggressive at fetching the puck from up close
  • Added a mega rebound ability for goaltenders, Dominik Cassette has it by default
  • Goaltenders will now pass the puck on a random timer before the whistle (used to be at every .5 seconds - this should create more fluidity in the goalie’s AI passing)
  • Currently working on an internal goalie attribute system (More to come)

    General
  • AI improvements (general behavior, shooting and, movement (dodging players when in control of the puck)
  • Improved player selection algorithm
  • Kazoo ability now has a longer cooldown
  • Headshot redirect ability improvements & bug fixes (It will now be effective from any angles as per before was not working consistently when shooting from specific angles)
  • Puck puncher ability will now only work in the offensive zone (also fixed an issue where the ability was not firing a wrist shot properly)
  • Fixed an issue where the puck would automatically get batted in the goal after a rebound (Instead of letting the rebound happen)
  • Reduced the time on braking which should translate in smoother directional transitions
  • AIs on your team will now bodycheck if you are player locked
  • Your AI teammates in the Campaign mode on Easy difficulty will now bodycheck
  • Tentative fix to remove hats on the ice where they would remain on the ice after a hat trick
  • Reduced velocity on sticks when interacting with the Fart or Magnet ability
  • Cooldown on abilities are no longer recharging between game stoppages
  • Shot accuracy reworked - Less accurate from closed angles, slapshots and one-timers (Shot accuracy will now be most valuable to invest on)
  • The puck will no longer conserve its original speed (according to the shot power of the shooter) when getting tipped, batted or when using the Headshot Redirect ability
  • Spin-o-rama ability is slower and will rotate the player in the proper direction according to the stick handedness
  • Skaters' AIs will no longer stay stuck skating into the boards
  • Fixed a bug where a goal would not be denied after skipping a replay (ie: Using the briefcase)
  • Fixed a bug where post game rewards could be duplicated and applied to multiple players
  • Fixed a bug related to the Weighted Die relic and re-rolling power-ups
  • Fixed a bug where power-ups with gain +X on wins would not be rewarded after defeating bosses
  • Scroll bar added for the abilities in the lineup menu
  • Fixed a bug where the anthem would keep playing after quitting a game
  • Fixed a bug where the anthem would keep playing after the initial puck drop
  • Various audio sound balancing fixes & bugs
  • End of run stats are now available with a proper UI

  • Major rework to the core infrastructure which should resolve memory issues opening the door to a lot of future updates
