Update TAXINAUT version 0.9.16 WIN_EARLY

Sorry. This is the last of these quick updates. This one adds some extra stuff to the recently added 2nd tutorial fare. Again to hopefully make the beginner's experience a bit smoother in case there's new players coming in during the Steam Space Exploration Fest.

Update TAXINAUT version 0.9.15 WIN_EARLY

Another quick update to prepare for maybe some new players from the Steam Space Exploration Fest.

This makes it so all planets (including gas-giants) can now be scanned by planet discovery scans (the scans are also a bit cheaper) and adds a discord and email button at the bottom of the main-menu so that you can more easily ask questions, report bugs, etc.

Update TAXINAUT version 0.9.14 WIN_EARLY

Tiny update that adds a little tutorial fare that explains the need for anti-graviton charges on planets without spaceports. This fare only occurs at the beginning of the game so there won't be any difference for people already playing. I added this in case the upcoming Steam Space Exploration fest brings in some new players.

Patch TAXINAUT version 0.9.12 WIN_EARLY

A small patch that fixes some reported crashes:

  • Setting to show save-file name instead of VUDU amount.
  • Fix crash when using repulsor in space.
  • Fix crash when starting TAXINAUT the very first time.
  • Fix possible crash when getting directions to where a certain item is sold.
  • Fix that a corrupt save-file is created when checking a pickup fare, setting your destination to it, then passing on the fare and then saving (with the passed fare destination still set).

Thanks to Papageno and RockinRowl!

Patch TAXINAUT version 0.9.10

Quick patch mainly to remove a possible crash due to a type-o in the previous patch.

  • Fix story descriptions saying 'n left' at the bottom while this information is already mentioned right before it.
  • Fix crash when people have 'insult (roast-master)' topic because the item id had a spelling mistake.
  • 'Show warp animation' setting to toggle whether the warp-animation when using warp-jumps/warp-beacons should show or just the cab traveling over the galaxy-map (like it used to).

Update TAXINAUT version 0.9.9 WIN_EARLY

Small update:

  • Fix unable to resume game after tabbing out of TAXINAUT while descending or ascending to/from planet. Tabbing back in should now resume the game automatically.
  • Fix charm amounts don't reduce when buying topics from charmed passengers.
  • You can now use charms to possibly reduce passenger agitation and stop them complaining.
  • Comebacks have been replaced by "insults" which work the same except that on people who like insults (e.g. most Draun) they work like charms.
  • Fix possible crash when using tinysound and the music track changes.
  • Fix bulletin ads sometimes make planets known when they shouldn't yet.

Path TAXINAUT version 0.9.7

A spelling correction and fix a crash after loading any save-file recently created after the uncle situation.

Patch TAXINAUT version 0.9.6

Tiny patch fixing some issues:

  • Fix systems without a checkpoint station but for which the player has a system map still don't show their gates in the system details.
  • Known (but not discovered) planets and stations now show with a different icon in the system details (to distinguish them from completely unknown system locations) and can be clicked to set the destination to them.
  • Fix ship turning is cancelled (very noticeable when using controller) when flying over an undiscovered site.

TAXINAUT V0.9

TAXINAUT VERSION 0.9

It was a bit of a fight (especially near the end) but here we are: TAXINAUT V0.9. This marks a milestone in TAXINAUT's development where all the features are basically set and I will now concentrate on adding more content: more planets, more mobs, more NPCs, etc.

Details of the changes going from V0.8.92 to V0.9.5 you can find at the bottom of this announcement; for now I hope you can join me in a little celebration of all that's been done since the Steam Early Access launch.

I've made a little celebratory "pat myself on the back" video where I just ramble a bit and go over what's changed since the first Steam version:

https://youtu.be/4q7jMsXZQdY

Or you can read an overview of it down here:

OVERVIEW OF CHANGES SINCE STEAM EARLY ACCESS RELEASE

GENERAL

  • Gamepad support through focus-system.
  • 3 different general text size settings (14pt, 16pt and 18pt).
  • Fully supported widescreen mode with sliding control-panel (different from sightseeing mode).
  • Steam achievements.
  • Manual save options: NEVER, AT SELECTED SITE, AT ALL SITES.
  • Run TAXINAUT in a regular window, borderless window or full-screen.
  • Modding.

STORYLINES

  • Storyline: Washing away the scum.
  • Storyline: Among the stars.
  • Storyline: Eldergrav.
  • Storyline: The tender grip.
  • Storyline: Shield and skeletons.

NEW FEATURES

  • Obtaining other ships to fly and a hangar at home in which multiple ships can be stored.
  • Modding owned ships with unlocked items.
  • Different player clones and a "cryonary" at home in which to store them.
  • Applying Gongs to owned clones to increase abilities.
  • Meetups with weapon dealers and rendez-vous with arms merchants to obtain personal and ship weapons.
  • Dangerous system-regions.
  • Gateway networks in some systems.
  • NPCs often have directions to where certain items are sold.
  • NPCs sometimes have directions to "important" planets in the galactic-neighborhood.
  • Right-mouse button works like a slow speed gas-pedal and can be used to move by nudges.

NEW ITEMS

  • Auto-pilot item.
  • Warp-beacon item that can be deployed in space and player can warp back to at any time without needing a warp-jump.
  • Army foot-locker filled with goodies available at home at start of game.
  • Starburst item to instantly jump to the current star (i.e. to the center of the system).
  • Ram-jam item allows you to ram mobs with minimal damage to your cab.
  • Vessel id scan can scan other ships for an id which can then be brought to a vessel-database to learn their details and possibly find where you can buy them.
  • T-scan that can scan mobs so you can see their details in zone-details.

UI, LOOK AND QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS

  • Yamo is more relaxed and has more pick-ups.
  • Much better starport and travel-agent UI's: possible destinations are shown and selectable on galaxy-map.
  • Animated warp sequence.
  • Adjustable mob density settings.
  • Adjustable fog level setting.
  • Detailed planet option to make ascend/descent to planet look better.

There's a lot more and probably thousands of bug-fixes, tweaks, etc.
The changes file alone is over 2000 lines longer since the first Steam version.

Next I will be focusing on adding new planets, mobs, NPCs, etc. and on improving the "sandboxy" aspect of the game (so I probably won't add anymore storylines for now).
Of course I will still do bug-fixes as well.

V0.8.94 TO V0.9.5 CHANGES

This is mainly a very large list (about 500 lines added to the changes file) of bug-fixes and tweaks.
On top of that it adds:

  • Those parts of the UI that didn't have controller support yet now do (e.g. ZoneDetails, Travel Agent UI, etc.).
  • T-scan that can be used on mobs to recognize them and learn some information about them.
  • Vessel ID scan that can be used on other ships to obtain an ID that can be used at a Vessel Database to learn about the ship including possibly where you can buy one yourself.
  • Ads in your bulletin board from traders etc. in the system that you can click to obtain a bookmark to them.
  • Better chances of NPCs having directions to special places and NPCs now sometimes have directions to interesting planets in the "galactic neighborhood" (e.g. within 100ly).
  • News bulletins look a little more interesting.
    [*}A new "busy" animation.
[*]Possibility to import an existing character into a new game.

The last thing there has been added in preperation for me, regrettably, having to break save-game compatability somewhere before version 1 to fix some issues that can't be fixed without re-generating large parts of the galaxy. When you import an existing character into a new game you will keep the characters VUDU (both on character and in Nexus), a lot of their items and all their clones and ships and their gongs and mods. You will also be reimbursed for any homes that the character might have owned (you will start again at a rented place on Yamo). My apologies for this.

Update TAXINAUT version 0.8.92 WIN_EARLY

I'm slowly crawling my way to version 0.9. This update adds hazardous regions to space.

https://youtu.be/4BxJ2-jtLnk

Some of the other fixes and changes:

  • Fix possible crash during warp.
  • Show title-screen background image darker to make the title-screen look less messy in some cases.
  • new "adios" and "oops" quit screen.
  • If crash is because of alt-F4 then it now shows the normal 'adios' but adds a message to reques that if the user used alt-F4 because TAXINAUT was hanging to send the crash-file to me.
  • Fix mobs sometimes spawning (e.g. Haion) inside range where mobs are faded but still visible (making spawned Mob appear to pop in to view).
  • Fix toggle minimap button images wrong way around and sometimes not updating to correct state when transitioning from day to night or vice versa.
  • Fix transporter sometimes slowly moving off when you approach it.
  • Fix transporter appearing twice when booking ticket inside Station then leaving Station, then entering Station again and then leaving again.
  • Having taxi-company membership when entering a system of a company that
is active in that system will automatically make the hazardous regions, gate network and all habitats known.
  • NPCs now sometimes have a SYSTEM MAP Topic that makes the hazardous regions, gate network and all Habitats of the current system known.
  • Information sells a SYSTEM MAP of the current system (same as above).
  • SystemDetails etc. will now always show Gate network Indicator when the system has one (before it would only show it for those system that had a checkpoint station).
  • Fix possible mobs colliding with the Player during the Warp spin-up (and even after) sometimes causing TAXINAUT to hang.
  • Ram-jam Item that gives a short boost and causes damage to other Mobs hit while keeping damage to the Player low (check your home-store or army footlocker).
  • When in widescreen and sliding open the control-pane it can now either push the main-view back to the normal view-mode or just slide over the widescreen main-view depending on setting slide main-view on control-pane toggle.

I don't know exactly yet what's up next. Probably some bug fixes etc. and then I'll make it version 0.9 unless something else comes up. After version 0.9 it will be mostly more planets, mobs, etc. that I will be adding until version 1.0.
