Anybody feeling especially lucky this month? We sure hope so, because we have some fun stuff to share this month - and we are one month closer to getting this update into your hands. It is crazy to see that the first three months of 2025 have already flown by. We promise that there is a pretty cool update sitting in the pot of gold at the end of this very long rainbow. One upside is that the extended update timeline has given DR Studios the chance to dive into even more polish and improvements on things specific to Console and Mobile. We hope that love and care will come through to everyone when the time comes.
With that said, let's see what is in store for this month's State of the Game!
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - THE TIES THAT BIND
In an earlier playthrough last year, renowned Terraria Enthusiast ChippyGaming and the creator of Terraria, Redigit, discussed having a special playthrough in 2025 where no secrets would be kept and any spoilers that showed up were fair game. The catch? They would be tethered together and playing on hardcore. Any death from either player would end the run. What new spoilers appeared? What development insights did Redigit reveal? What sorts of crazy shenanigans did they get up to? Most importantly - how did it end!?!
Terraria - still bringing players closer together than ever before after all of these years!
So, we hope that everyone enjoys that fun little journey into the world of Terraria 1.4.5 - we wish there could have been more, but sadly two seasoned Terraria pros got taken out by... a waterfall. That said, we thought we might share just a little bit more in the realm of spoilers this month:
Something seems off about those gunslingers...

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
This last month tModLoader hit an exciting new player count record. We had 56,000 players playing at the same time! We look forward to even more users enjoying playing tModLoader as new mods continue to come out and existing mods continue to update!
On April 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. One notable change for this month's release is the AddSpecialDraw changes for tile rendering, which can be used to address some animation frame rate and rendering issues. We hope mod makers read the pull request description and apply the fixes to their own tiles if relevant. We'd also encourage mod makers to check out the new features available in the preview release and provide feedback if anything is lacking. Some features in preview include biome conversion support and streamlined ModTileEntity examples and helper methods.
For mod makers, features of note currently in preview for next month include expanded tree shaking hooks and expanded shimmer recipe decrafting control.
Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live.
As always, if you are having issues of any sort, definitely don't hesitate to check out our FAQ on github or reach out to us at our Discord.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR TML?
More features, continuing to evolve and grow what TML can do... and getting ready for 1.4.5.
As always, you can keep track the current progress and much more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)
PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
Hello Terrarians!
This month, we have once again been beavering away at Quality of Life changes. In particular, one spot we’ve been addressing is the use of primary vs. secondary item actions. Currently you perform “left click” actions with the Fire button, and “right click” actions with the Interact button. Since your Interact button is usually on the same side as your movement stick, however, this can get cumbersome when trying to attack with most weapons. This new (work in progress) feature should hopefully address that, and make these actions easier to use while moving!
To give a brief overview:
We have added a toggle button between an item’s primary / secondary actions.
This changes all buttons, as well as aim stick + screen tap, to perform the secondary action.
Given these secondary actions could not previously be used on the aim stick, nor when tapping the screen, opening these up as options should make these actions much more comfortable than before.
At the moment, this button can be unbound to revert to current 1.4.4.9 behaviour. We are iterating back and forth, however, so there might be changes on the horizon to how this is implemented.

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATE
Hello Terrarians!
Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got an update on our timeline, new art and loads of sample images including the wooden character pack, full-art card sleeves and dice!
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
UPDATED TIMELINE TL;DR: We’re updating our estimated shipping date to August 2025.
At Paper Fort HQ, we’re regularly evaluating our internal deadlines and estimated timeline. Over the past month, we’ve made improvements to the game that require some extra testing time and that necessitate updates to the game’s print files. Finalizing the game’s tray design (a hugely important part of the game) and getting samples of some game components have also taken longer than we had hoped. These are critical milestones in the development process, and they directly impact the quality of the final game, so we need to give them the time they deserve. You can view the update timeline below:
This means that the game is going to take longer to get to backers than we had anticipated; we’re updating our estimated shipping date to August 2025. As backers of many projects ourselves, we understand that this can be frustrating, so we wanted to let everyone know sooner rather than later and reiterate our promise to keep you in the loop throughout the whole process.
This doesn’t mean anything has slowed down in our day-to-day work on the game; there are still lots of things happening in parallel, such as the finalizing of art assets, the rulebook overhaul and loads of playtesting. Our monthly updates will continue, with all the behind-the-curtain details of the game’s development and as many exciting pictures as we can fit in!
Speaking of exciting pictures, let’s take a look at what’s been happening this month…
---
WOODEN CHARACTER PACK This week, we received a full sample of the game’s wooden character pieces. During the campaign, we planned to include 4 character pieces in the base game, but as mentioned previously we’ve decided to increase this to 8 as a thank you for your support. Therefore, the core game will come with 8 character pieces (2 in each player colour), and Hellstone backers will receive an additional 32 characters (8 in each player colour). As you might remember from previous updates, we’ve been testing lots of different printing methods and are very happy that we’ve found a technique that not only allows a wider range of colours but also permits more detailed artwork; quite a challenge on a wooden piece smaller than a penny!
Below is the full set; the 2 leftmost pieces in each colour are the base game pieces; the others are included in the Hellstone pack.
---
PLASTIC ORGANIZER SAMPLES Until now, we’ve been testing 3D-printed version of the game’s organizer trays; this is a great initial check of dimensions and component fit, but this week we progressed to the next step - our plastic samples finally arrived!
The trays are vacuum formed. For those of you who are interested in how this process works, you can watch this short video (5 minutes). It’s not specific to board game inserts, but the process is very similar, and it shows the various stages involved in the process.
[TAG-201] We’re happy to report that the plastic trays are sturdy, hold all of the components well, have secure snap-close lids and fit nicely in the box:
Eagle-eyed viewers may notice a few things in the GIF above:
The plastic trays are all black: This is just for sampling purposes. The trays will be coloured, with the enemy tray purple to match the enemy dice, the boss trays colour-matched to the boss miniatures and the remaining trays Terraria green, colour-matched to the character dice. Their lids will all be transparent. Coloured trays are on their way to us; in the meantime here’s a digital mockup:
There’s a mysterious white box at the top left: This area will contain a foam block in the core version of the game (so things don’t rattle around); Hellstone backers can replace this foam block with their box of extra wooden character pieces.
The card and biome tile boxes are grey: These are still our 3D printed versions of these boxes. These will be made from full-art, double-walled cardboard in the final game; we are currently waiting on the cardboard samples.
The card box is full of sleeved cards! That’s right; read on for a sleeve-related update…
---
CARD SLEEVES & SLEEVED CARD CAPACITY Hot of the press, we have the physical samples of the full-art action card sleeves included with the Hellstone pledge! They look *amazing*, are fantastic quality (100-micron thickness) and fit the cards beautifully. We have subjected them to 30 solid minutes of the most brutal smash-shuffling that we could muster, and we’re happy to report they aren’t showing any signs of wear, splitting or peeling.
---
CHARACTER ART & UPDATED PLAYER BOARDS George has just finished up a complete overhaul of our 8 character cards; we’ve worked closely with the Re-Logic team to create an interesting and diverse cast of characters to choose from.
Of course, as you progress through the game, you’ll be overlaying your character with various armor and vanity sets!
It has been a very fun technical challenge to make characters, armor and vanities that are completely interchangeable; we’re excited to see them in action!
Updated Player Boards In our last update, we mentioned that we’ve updated the player boards to include designated consumable and discard pile areas; we just received the samples and it’s looking great! It definitely helps to have these extra reminders!
---
TERRARIAN & ENEMY DICE And finally; some dice! We have just approved the samples for the Terrarian and enemy dice, with their new, easier to read inlay colours. The marbling looks great, and it’s very satisfying to roll a handful of them in combat!
--- GAME DEVELOPMENT NEWS Here’s what we’ve been focusing on this month:
The major rulebook overhaul continues; it’s currently with playtesters for initial comments and we’ll publish it for backers to read as soon as it’s ready.
‘Blind’ playtesting is ongoing; the game is currently with playtesting groups who will play the game based solely on the rulebook.
Removal of half blocks for the game to simplify rules; a square is now simply full, or empty.
Addition of an ‘objective focus’ token to increase interactivity and planning between players at the start of each turn.
Alternate objectives are currently being tested; these can be swapped in to increase game-to-game variability.
Simplification of enemy retaliation rules; less dice rolling!
---
Back in April I'll be back next month with more art, development news, and factory samples to show you! It’s really lovely to see everything come together; thank you all so much for your support. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

Terraria State of the Game: February 2025
Greetings Terrarians!
Ah February, the month of love, or something like that? Well, we certainly love and appreciate each and every Terrarian out there, so let's go with it! Anyway, the team is whittling away at the remaining tickets in the system and making great headway down that road. We also have some fun new spoilers to showcase this month that we hope everyone will enjoy. Beyond that, we are really just hoping to be able to finally give a release window with some certainty sometime soon. We know that this update has taken a very long time and we appreciate your patience more than we can say. Please just hang in there with us a bit longer.
With that said, let's get right to it!

TERRARIA - BRINGING BACKGROUNDS TO THE FOREGROUND
One of the long-running aspects of the upcoming Terraria update has been the development of a whole new suite of biome backgrounds. Hand-crafted by Luna (also known as RunicPixels), these deceptively detailed works of art really set the mood and keep things fresh as you explore each Terraria world. We are showing just a few examples below, but we have several others already completed and ready for prime time. Make sure that you take the time to look closely and take each of these all in....
Fairy Circles, Ancient Bones, Frozen Rivers, and Gnarled Corrupt Trees, oh my!
Again, there are several more where these come from (more than 10 as of today!) - and we cannot wait to see what you think of them all when 1.4.5 releases!

Notable changes for this month's release include highly requested changes to tree shaking hooks and changes to modded music volume options. PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
Happy February, Terrarians!
We hope the first few months of 2025 have been enjoyable ones. Alongside bringing 1.4.5’s content over to the mobile / console versions, one overarching task we’ve focused on this past year is Quality of Life - in other words, polishing certain actions / menus to make them easier to use.We wanted to take the time this month to showcase some changes to our virtual controls editor. We’ve drastically overhauled the way it’s used, as well as given it some new features, in an effort to make it more accessible to beginners and experts alike. Without further ado, here’s some footage!
To list a few of these changes:
Placing a button down in a scheme has been dramatically altered. Rather than choosing from a giant list of actions and modifying their size, you now choose a control type and determine its action / size from a dedicated popup. You can also delete controls with it!
You can now copy / paste configurations across loadouts. Great for people who like using multiple schemes with all the same button placements!
Since the ways people play can vary quite drastically, we’ve added in some new default presets that you can choose from! Previously, there was only one default option for your controls.
There are a few new features that we’ve hidden as easter eggs in the video. See if you can spot them!

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATE
Hello Terrarians!
Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got a card sleeve art reveal, an update on the game’s organiser, lots of samples from the manufacturer and the latest development news from Paper Fort HQ.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
CARD SLEEVE ART The Terraria: The Board Game Hellstone pledge level includes full-art card sleeves for the game’s action cards. Our original plan for these was to use the pre-existing King Slime boss art, but after seeing the Terrarian vs. Boss playmat art that George created, we knew that instead, we had to have another bespoke battle scene on the sleeves!
With Re-Logic, we decided to feature Eye of Cthulhu on the card sleeve; another iconic Terraria Boss. To contrast with the playmat art’s Underworld setting, we chose the Snow biome as the location, with a moonlit palette adding to the eerie atmosphere. As you can see from the sketch below, the Terrarian was originally going to be decked out in iron armor, instead they were upgraded to sturdier silver armor and armed with the Ice Blade, as well as a silver bow slung across their back. We are so thrilled with how the piece came out; it’s currently with the manufacturer being used to make sample card sleeves.
"…You feel an evil presence watching you..."
The EoC vs Terrarian card sleeves art from sketch (left) to final art piece (right). The final sleeves will not feature the Terraria watermark.
---
GAMETRAYZ ORGANIZER After lots of back and forth we are now happy with the game’s organiser; you can see a basic schematic of how the storage will fit together below.
The Card and Biome Tile boxes will be double-walled, full-art cardstock boxes with lids and all of the trays will be plastic with transparent lids.
It takes quite a while for the manufacturer to create the tools for making these inserts, so while they get to grips with that we’ve ordered one final 3D printed version of everything. We want to be extra sure that everything fits the way it should, and there’s only so much you can check on a computer screen!
---
TRANSPARENT CARD SAMPLES Last week, samples of the game’s transparent cards (used for armor, vanity and minions) arrived at the office. We are really happy with the print quality and the clarity of the cards when stacked. Here’s Chris testing a couple of the cards upon arrival; very satisfying!
---
LATEST BOSS MINIATURES We received our latest batch of Boss miniature samples this week, and we’re happy to report that the keys are correct, the fit is good and the colours look great!
These are still 3D printed and airbrush painted samples (hence why the inside parts on some are white); we didn’t want to move on to creating molds for the plastic versions before we were 100% happy with them.
---
INVENTORY DICE SAMPLES In our last update, we mentioned that the inventory dice samples were on their way. The marbled acrylic looks fantastic in blue, red, white and yellow, but the gold infill on the blue and red dice was very difficult to read. In light of this, we’ve switched over to a white infill on those dice instead and it is much clearer.
---
COIN DIAL MODIFICATIONS The game’s coin dials have been altered slightly for useability; they are bigger, the numbers are clearer and we’ve added a little cutout to make turning the dial easier. These might all seem like small changes but they make a big difference overall.
---
HIGH-FRICTION BIOME TILES Early on in the design of the game, we knew that tokens would need to be placed into the world; as enemies and to track various states. With this in mind, we’ve been working with the team at Gameland to find a coating for the biome tiles and tokens that decreases the chances of tokens moving easily if knocked. Of course, we can’t eliminate this completely, but we wanted to do something to help if we could.
We’ve tried a few different options, and have finally found a matte finish that increases friction between the biome tiles and tokens placed onto them, without adversely affecting the colours or sharpness of detail. Happily, it also has another bonus; significantly reducing glare and improving readability of the tiles, even with a bright light directly overhead.
---
GAME DEVELOPMENT Here are some of the game’s features we’ve been focusing on this month:
The major rulebook overhaul continues; we’ll publish it as soon as it’s ready.
‘Blind’ playtesting is ongoing; the game is currently with playtesting groups who will play the game based solely on the rulebook.
Simplification of chopping and digging rules; now quicker, easier and less fiddly!
Removal of time tokens from the game; passage of time is now baked into the threat tracker which means less things to check per turn.
Significant upgrades across all cards; culling of ‘boring’ cards, introduction of more interesting and diverse cards to improve the overall deckbuilding aspect of the game experience.
Objective chain updates, including testing of variable objectives allowing for more variety between games.
Various graphic design improvements, including a player board upgrade to include designated consumable and discard pile area.
--- Back in March I'll be back next month with more art, development news, and factory samples to show you! It’s really lovely to see everything come together; thank you all so much for your support. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

Greetings Terrarians!
2025 is here and we are here for it! Things are setting up for this to be quite the year for Terraria and Terrarians everywhere, and we hope that everyone is as excited as we are for what is to come. From the long-awaited update to (hopefully!) the release of crossplay to the release of Terraria: the Board Game and more - there will be lots to do and enjoy. Team Terraria is - as always - beyond appreciative of each of you that choose to continue along with us on our journey. So, let's settle in and learn a bit more about what this year has in store!
On with the show...

TERRARIA - WE'VE FOUND FOOD IN LOW PLACES...
Welcome back, Terrarians - and happy 2025! The team is already hard at work with adding a few new bits, tweaking and balancing what we have, and fixing the usual bugs that crop up. We still plan to have an ideation session to be sure there is nothing that we have left on the side that shouldn't be there - and that meeting should lock in what there is left to do.
There is a long and exciting road ahead, and to help keep our energy up whilst down deep in the caves and tunnels of development, we have found the most delicious new snack hiding within the world of Terraria...
Gem Creatures - Now them's good eatin'!

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATE
Hello Terrarians!
Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games; welcome to the first update of 2025. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, I'll be sharing more art, information about the game’s custom Gametrayz organiser, samples from the factory and an improved bee ally miniature.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
ARMOR SET ART As always, George has been hard at work on art assets for the game. His recent focus has been on more armor sets; you’ll find them below:
From left to right; top row: Shadow, Crimson, Ebonwood and Shadewood Armor. Bottom row: Jungle, Mining, Necro, Copper and Silver Armor.
As you might remember, armor sets are printed onto transparent cards that are placed on top of your character card, ‘dressing’ your character and buffing their stats.
George is currently working on a unique art piece for the action card sleeve pack (included with the Hellstone pledge); even at the early sketch stage, we’re excited!
--- MANUFACTURER SAMPLES Wooden Pieces We recently received samples of the game’s printed wooden components; character pieces, tombstone tokens, mana/health trackers and the day/night token. These were all upgraded with printed art during the campaign. We’ve experimented with various printing techniques over the past couple of months and we’re really pleased with how well the art has come out on such tiny pieces. The colours really pop!
Custom Inventory Dice Creating custom dice is quite an involved process; one of the biggest challenges is ensuring that the material textures, colours and infills all work well together. This week, the manufacturer sent us this picture of the game’s inventory dice, used to track your resources. During the KS, these were upgraded via stretch goals from plain to marbled plastic, and then from standard to customised dice, allowing us to incorporate the Andy font and include the Terraria tree on the ‘0’ face.
The game’s custom inventory dice. Don’t they look delicious? Don’t eat them.
Creating custom dice also allows us to play with the positioning of the faces. On a normal 6-sided die, the values of opposite faces add up to 7. This is fine if you’re rolling the dice, but if you’re using them to track something, it can be fiddly to ‘count up’ or ‘count down’ as the faces for sequential numbers aren’t necessarily next to each other. We’ve positioned the faces in such a way that ‘counting up’ and ‘counting down’ should be significantly easier.
These samples are currently on their way to us and we’re looking forward to getting our hands on them. The polyhedral character and enemy dice are also on their way.
Chinese New Year has now started; during this national holiday factories close down completely. We worked closely with the manufacturer to get as many samples sent as possible before the holiday began, so we’ll have plenty to work on while they’re away.
---
GAMETRAYZ ORGANIZER From the outset, we knew that this game would benefit from a custom box insert. Not just to help with organisation, but also to streamline setup, gameplay and put-away. It has taken lots of time, spreadsheets, prototypes and alterations to achieve this goal, but we’re really, really close! Last week, we ordered high-quality 3D prints of the latest tray designs and I spent 2 days going through them all, checking that every component has a place, that each of the slots was the correct size and that all of the trays fitted together as expected inside the box. There are some changes to be made by Gametrayz after this review, but we’re almost there.
Deep into the review of the Gametrayz inserts!
These prototype trays are 3D printed in a grey material, but the final plastic trays will be coloured. The stackable trays (the setup, crafting/resource and enemy trays) will have transparent lids, as will the 6 boss trays. The biome tile and card boxes will be made of thick, full-art, double-walled cardboard and will have lids. The dice you see in the setup tray are just placeholders of the correct size that we’re using while we wait for the actual dice samples. Similarly, ‘white sample’ (i.e. unprinted) cardboard components are being used to check each component’s dimensions. Not pictured here is the enemy tray; see below.
The enemy tray. Icons will be printed/embossed onto the tray; quick paper mock-ups used here so we can get a feel for readable size. A new area for wound tokens has been added top left; as these are only ever used with enemies, it’s more sensible to have them stored here than in another tray.
Like the other stable trays, this will have a transparent lid.
---
BEE ALLY TOKEN RESCULPT
As part of the ongoing review process, we recently revisited the game’s ‘Ally’ tokens (the enemies spawned by Bosses during boss battles). We weren’t happy with the bee Ally; compared to our other Allies and boss miniatures it felt flat and of lower quality. In light of this, it has been remodelled; we’re much happier with the new ally!
New bee Ally with hand for scale. It might look cute, but when Queen Bee is sending them after you, you might change your mind!
--- GAME DEVELOPMENT Here are some of the game’s features we’ve been focusing on this month:
A major rulebook overhaul, taking into account feedback from the community and incorporating the latest rule modifications. Thank you to everybody who took the time to read the previous versions and share their feedback with us! This updated version of the rulebook is currently with external editors and will be improved further based on their comments. We’re aiming to publish the latest version online for backers to peruse within the next couple of months.
‘Blind’ playtesting; the game is currently with playtesting groups who will play the game based solely on the rulebook.
Detailed review of the Gametrayz organiser system as detailed above.
Review of manufacturer’s component samples, including wooden pieces and ‘high-friction’ biome tile/ token coating.
Various small UI/ graphic design improvements across the game’s components.
--- SOMETHING FROM THE ARCHIVES I recently found one of my earliest prototypes in Tabletop Simulator. In this version, the world was built from square cards (rather than rectangular tiles), which threw up all sorts of problems with mis-orientation and cards sliding under one another. It’s certainly different, but recognisable as an early version of today’s game and a great reminder of how far we’ve come!
--- DICE TOWER TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED GAMES OF 2025 When we returned to the office earlier this month, we were very excited to discover that Tom Vasel from the Dice Tower has voted Terraria as one of his top 10 most anticipated games of 2025. We’re honoured to be on the list among such fantastic company!
--- Back in February! I'll be back next month with more art, development news, and factory samples to show you! It’s really lovely to see everything come together; thank you all so much for your support. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:
The Terraria community is filled with incredible fan media. We love to browse Terraria associated social pages and check out the creative minds sharing wonderful creations. Terraria x Madrinas -Blueberry Lemonade King Slime Fruit Tea out now!
Happy New Year, Terrarians!
Hot off the heels of our previous coffee collabs with Madrinas, we’re thrilled to reveal the latest addition to the lineup—the Blueberry Lemonade King Slime Boba Fruit Tea!
We know we have long warned Terrarians of the dangers of ingesting gel from slimes, but maybe the time has come to give it a try. Inspired by King Slime, this sweet and zesty blend of blueberry and lemonade will have you feeling like a Boss with every energizing sip.
For a limited time, you can summon this thirst quencher with the exclusive Terraria Bundle and snag the all-new Shaker Cup!
A Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each and every one of you from Team Terraria! We hope that everyone has found ample time to spend with family and friends during this time. That has been the focus of our team over the past couple of weeks - a good chance to rest and recharge for the push into what is to come in 2025. That said, we did take a few days away from the holiday celebrations for a quick playthrough on the new Skyblock seed. As with all of our playthroughs, shenanigans quickly followed: dev duels, Chippy vs Red for the CEO crown, even what has come to be known as "debug command battles" commenced over the course of the adventure. These are always not only a lot of fun, but also beyond useful in assisting with bug fixing and balance. We can't wait to see what you make of this seed when the update drops!
Let's see what is under the Terraria tree this year, shall we?
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - FLOORS? WHERE WE'RE GOING WE WON'T NEED FLOORS...
As we mentioned in the introduction to this month's State of the Game, most of the team has been on Holiday break, spending time with family, getting some home projects done, things like that. Of course, then there is the madness that has been the Skyblock playthrough. Our goal with the Skyblock seed is to take a game format that is somewhat notorious for being grindy and for experts only and to make it at least a bit more approachable/accessible to a broader audience of players. As such, a lot of our time on this session was focused around balance (and bugs, of course). Skyblock is sort of its own set of rules and such, so a lot of care has to be taken to make sure it feels right.
That said, we had our usual share of trolling and craziness. The CEO crown changed hands more times than we can count via a variety of 1:1 duels between devs, testers, and more. We had more fun and insightful chats than we could recall in a long time - both trips down memory lane and gazing into the future. That said, we thought we might share a screen or two from our playthrough world just for your viewing pleasure.

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
The tModLoader team has had a bit of a slower month, as we take time to take a breath and relax to close out the year. We will be back at it in 2025, ready to take TML to the next level!
We'd like to remind modders about the preview branch where we test new features before they arrive in stable the following month. Modders interested in these new features, listed both on our GitHub and in the #preview-update-log of our Discord, can join the preview branch to get early access to the new features and test them in their mods. We really appreciate the feedback from modders using the preview branch to try out the new features.
Major features currently in preview (starting December 1st) include greatly improved enemy banner support and support for custom data sets. Please give them a test and let us know if you run into any issues.

The DR Studio teams have also been winding down for the Holidays - though our resident QA tester extraordinaire, Nescre, got a chance to join in on the Skyblock testing festivities. The only difference being that he was playing from both PC and Mobile..
We cannot wait to leap headlong into what 2025 has in store - it is shaping up to be a truly special year in the world of Terraria!

TERRARIA PC CASES, WALL ART, AND MORE FROM STARFORGE!
On behalf of the entire Terraria team, we are beyond excited to share that we have partnered with epic PC builders, Starforge Systems, to create a one-of-a-kind PC case (and some amazing wall and desk mat artwork) that should appeal to Terrarians everywhere. I don't know about you, but personally, I am glad that I am in the market for a PC update!

Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got a PAXU recap, new enemy and Crimson art, and a Christmas promo pack showcase. If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
PAX UNPLUGGED RECAP From 6th to 8th December, we were demoing Terraria: The Board Game at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia, PA. Thank you to everyone who visited the booth to play the game, check out the playmat and pick up a Town Slime balloon (as always, it was fun to see them bobbing about in the convention hall!)
It was lovely to meet backers in person, and to share the game with Terraria fans who weren't aware of the tabletop adaptation. We were very conveniently positioned just across from Contention Games, who recently published the Slay the Spire board game; lots of videogame fans visiting their booth also came to say hello to us!
Above; the booth set up and ready for the show. We managed to fit most of it in our hand and checked baggage, but had to sacrifice some clothes; thankfully Philly wasn't too cold!
When you’re busy at the booth all day, it’s easy to forget to take photos! A huge thank you to Lana (@navigatorlana on IG) who took the fantastic in-play shots of the demo and components below and gave us permission to share them.
Highlights of the convention included chatting with backers, a group of attendees who played the game on Friday and were kind enough to come back on Sunday to tell us that Terraria was their favourite demo of the convention, and playing the demo with a group of real-life Mermaids!
Did you play? Let us know in the comments!
---
ENEMIES AHEAD! George recently finished up the art for all of the non-boss enemies in the game, which are featured on the game’s enemy tokens. As always, he’s done a fantastic job and we love his interpretation of the game’s sprites; here are some of our favourites!
From top left to bottom right: Tomb Crawler, Hell Bat, Vulture, Skeleton, Eater of Souls, Frozen Zombie, Crimera, Devourer, Antlion Swarmer, Fire Imp, Ice Bat.
---
COMPONENT SPOTLIGHT: CHRISTMAS PROMO PACK As this is our December Update, it seems appropriate to show you some more of the Christmas Promo Pack, unlocked as a stretch goal during the Kickstarter campaign and included with all pledges.
Ugly Sweater: ‘Ugly’ is subjective, right? We think this knitted number is rather fetching, and it will look lovely overlaying your character card. It doesn’t do anything, but it does look cosy! Candy Cane Sword: This sweet sword deals decent damage, as well as preventing enemy retaliation. Great for defeating mobs, or for cutting yourself a nice slice of Christmas cake… delicious! Gingerbread Cookie: Not the gumdrop buttons! Discarding this tasty consumable will grant +1 mana, +1 defence, +1 action point and +1 damage; the perfect festive pick-me-up!
These Christmas items will be available in your games via the Present, an optional card that you can add to the base game chest cards.

MANUFACTURER UPDATE: INTRODUCING GAMELAND
We’re very happy to announce that we’ll be working with Gameland as our manufacturer for Terraria: The Board Game. Gameland have 16 years of experience in tabletop game manufacturing, and are well known for the quality of their products, including Too Many Bones and Cloudspire from Chip Theory Games and Mind MGMT from Off The Page Games.
They have been wonderfully communicative and very helpful in the prototyping of unusual components (such as our modular boss miniatures); the Gameland team are currently working on a wide variety of component samples for us and we’re looking forward to sharing them in a future update!
As well as component testing, we’re working closely with the Gameland team on pre-packaging options to ensure that games get to backers in pristine condition
---
CRIMSON BIOME DISCOVERED! At the start of Terraria: The Board Game, as in the videogame, you’ll choose an evil biome; Corruption or Crimson (or randomly select one). So far, we’ve shared the art for Corruption, but George has recently been working on the Crimson biome tiles too; you can find a selection of the WIP art below!
We’ve added new critters too; which ones can you find on this selection of tiles?
---
Thank you to Re-Logic and the Terraria community for the support and enthusiasm in 2024; we couldn’t do it without you and we’re excited to share more about Terraria: The Board Game in 2025! Happy Holidays to those who celebrate; we hope you get to spend time with your families and loved ones over the festive season.
Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

Terraria State of the Game - November 2024
Greetings Terrarians!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! The Terraria team is certainly thankful for each and every one of you and your support for us over the years. We hope that as we enter the holiday season, you will have some time to rest, relax, and reconnect with family and friends. We are looking to get things all wrapped up for 2024 ourselves - it has certainly been a productive and unpredictable year. This month's State of the Game is a good one - with spoilers, updates on the future, some new product releases and more. You will definitely want to dive in and check it out.
With that said, let's get to it shall we?
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - MAKING IT RAIN... ACORNS?
The work on the final lists from each dev team member is nearing its conclusion, which is a great measure of progress. That said, we are pretty certain that there is no way that we will see Terraria 1.4.5 release this year. To make a long story short, end-of-year releases (especially if you are trying to sync launch across PC-Mobile-Console AND do so globally at the same time) are fraught with peril due to review cycles, people leaving early for the holidays, etc. The hope was that we would be able to get things in ahead of that end of year mess, but that isn't looking to be the case. We are also not going to force anyone on our team or anyone else's team to crunch for what would be an arbitrary deadline. So, that said, the next Terraria update is moving along into 2025.
We are sure that will not be welcome news for many - but we remain committed to being a quality-first studio, so we will take the time necessary for each update to feel "just right"... and we think that once the update is out, everyone will appreciate that time and care. Apologies for this one taking so long for sure, but it will be well worth it.
That bit of news out of the way, let's check in on one of our resident arborists as he is doing a bit of "reforestation"...
Having to place acorns by hand is SO 2011...
Oh yeah, and before we forget, we will just leave this here for viewing pleasure and wanton speculation...

TERRARIA GRAPHIC NOVEL - UPDATE ON VOLUME 1 AND ISSUE 7 OUT NOW!
Hello everyone!
Over at 50 Amp Productions, we have been hard at work on some exciting developments.
First off, we have decided to streamline how the graphic novel will be sold. We have a limited number of Terraria Volume 1 graphic novels in stock and are shipping them out to customers this December - in time to arrive as a Holiday gift. With our new delivery model, we have eliminated the wait times we previously saw, but this means that if you want a copy of the first printing, you should order yours right away as stock is limited.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who ordered Volume 1 of the graphic novel through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, and other retailers. Unfortunately, those orders are being canceled as we transition to a new distributor due to some unforeseen issues with our prior distributor.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. However, if you’d still like to secure a copy in time for the holidays, you can order directly from our website via the link below:
Orders placed on our website will begin shipping the second week of December. Thank you for your understanding and support. Wishing you a joyful holiday season!

We also sat down with a few of the core developers from the wildly popular Calamity Mod for an interview about Calamity, Terraria, and more! This is an exclusive addition to the Volume 1 collection as well.
We are very proud of how Volume 1 turned out, and can’t wait for you to see it.
--- In addition, beyond the excitement behind the release of Volume 1, we are also excited to announce that Issue 7 and the related goodies are IN STOCK and shipping now! Issue 7 completes volume 2 of our story and features some of the finest art and most exciting story moments yet.
And lastly, as always, thank you to you, the fans and Re-Logic for coming on the journey with us. We are so excited to show you what happens next!
TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATE
Hello Terrarians!
Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got a character pieces showcase, more fantastic equipment art from George, the latest King Slime miniature prototype and details of our stand at PAX Unplugged at the start of December.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
CHARACTER PIECE SHOWCASE One of the biggest artistic challenges in Terraria: The Board Game has been the design of its character pieces (sometimes called ‘meeples’). Wooden player pieces can be found in hundreds of games, but we wanted ours to be unique and faithful to the feel of Terraria.
We’ve been through many stages of experimentation and iteration with these pieces; unlocking the screen-printing of these components via stretch goals provided more design options, but also made locking in the style of the pieces more challenging. After lots of discussion with the Re-Logic team, liaison with manufacturers about printing methods and many sketches by George, the character pieces have been redesigned to be more dynamic and playful while also addressing the limitations of printing onto a piece of wood smaller than a penny!
During the campaign, we planned to include 4 character pieces in the base game; we’ve decided to increase this to 8 as a thank you for your support! So, Gold pledge backers will receive 8 basic character pieces (shown above) in their game; backers at the Hellstone pledge level will be receiving an additional 32 ‘advanced’ character pieces as part of the character piece pack, including the Yoyo, Big Sword, Summoner, Wizard, and more! Here's a selection of the pieces included in that Hellstone pack:
We're still finalising the designs, so colours (including which character is printed onto which colour of wood) and small details may change, but we wanted to show you how far we've come from the pieces in our campaign video!
---
UPDATED KING SLIME MINIATURE We recently received the latest sample of the King Slime modular miniature; this is a 3D printed prototype, but it does give us a feel for what the transparent plastic might look like in the final casting.
--- EVEN MORE EQUIPMENT! George has now finished all of the art for equipment in the game; we are *so* happy with what he’s come up with! It’s a huge challenge to reinterpret sprites and we think he’s done a wonderful job; here are a few of our favourites from the latest batch!
From left to right: Ruby Hook, Demon Scythe, Imp Staff, The Bee’s Knees, Cascade, Blowpipe and Enchanted Boomerang!
---
GAME DEVELOPMENT
Here are some of the game’s features we’ve been focusing on this month:
A change to the game’s starting decks to incorporate an attack-boosting card; ‘Charge’
Further Boss balancing, including simplification of Boss behaviours
Multiple small equipment effect alterations
Consistency updates to terminology across cards
Rulebook update/ overhaul (in progress)
We’ve also reviewed a ‘white sample’ of the game’s components; this is a ‘blank’ copy of the game’s components that allows us to check sizes, quality and quantity of all of the game’s components. We’ll share more about this in next month’s update!
--- PLAY TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME AT PAX UNPLUGGED! From 6th to 8th December, we’ll be at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia. Visit us at booth 4334 to play the game, check out the playmat and pick up a Town Slime balloon! We can’t wait to see you there!
I’ll be back next month with another designer diary; we'll have Crimson biome art, new enemies, and a spotlight on the Christmas Promo Pack.

Terraria State of the Game - October 2024
Greetings Terrarians!
October is quite possibly our favorite month here on the Terraria team. We are big fans of the turn towards the Fall alongside all of the spooky happenings that come along with Halloween. Speaking of which, if you have any amazing Terraria-themed pumpkins, costumes, or anything similar that you put together for Halloween this year, we would love to see them - and maybe feature them in the community section next month! On the development side, the team is pushing hard towards the end of the year, checking off items on the team's collective list at a blistering pace. More on that later, but for now, let's see what treats the Terraria team has waiting for our amazing community this year!
All that said, let's see what's going on in the world of Terraria...
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - LIFE FRUIT HAS GOT WHAT ADVENTURERS CRAVE
The team has been making some amazing progress on the "lists" we mentioned in September's State of the Game. There is still quite a bit to get done (and test and fix, etc), but we remain committed to never cutting any corners. Ultimately, updates will take the time they need to be done right - that mantra of "it's ready when it's ready" has served us, the game, and the community right for 13 years and counting after all! As for what that means for timing and whatnot, we cannot really say just yet. That said, we will be sure to keep everyone informed here in the SOTG as well as elsewhere when the time is right. Thank you for your patience and your support!
Speaking of your support, we are thrilled to reveal that Terraria has finally eclipsed the 60 million units milestone (60.7m to be precise) - with 33m on PC alone! Simply put, we could not do what we do every day while maintaining the principles we hold so dearly without your support. Thank you doesn't do it justice - rest assured we aim to keep being worthy of that support.
Life Fruit has always been a valuable commodity in Terraria - but really loses its usefulness once the player has reached full health. The scientists in the Terraria food labs have taken some steps to fix this problem. Let's check in with our resident food expert to find out more...
Check out the Console/Mobile section for a sneak peak of Jungle Juice in action!
Oh, and in case you missed it, we had a sneaky little hidden spoiler posted on TCF during the TCF 10th Anniversary Festivities:
Avoid that nasty "one click too many" - and giving the Tinkerer even more of you hard-earned coins...

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
The tModLoader team and our amazing community of contributors continues to improve tModLoader. On November 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. Once again this month's release contains many improvements to the user experience, some gameplay bug fixes, as well as new features with examples and documentation for mod makers.
We'd like to remind modders about the preview branch where we test new features before they arrive in stable the following month. Modders interested in new these features, listed both on our GitHub and in the #preview-update-log of our Discord, can join the preview branch to get early access to the new features and test them in their mods. We really appreciate the feedback from modders using the preview branch to try out the new features.
One feature we are currently previewing is additional support for modded tiles that react to wind and player movement, as some vanilla tiles do. Modders on the preview branch can test it out and make sure it works correctly for chandeliers, banners, vines, and other similar tiles.

The Console/Mobile team has once again had a productive month. We have been adding the 1.4.5 update content in parallel with PC, further refining the control button changes we mentioned last time, and we put out a recent technical build on mobile that helps bring the backend up to speed with first party platforms - enabling future updates to go more smoothly. We stand ready to help make the next update as amazing as possible - we cannot wait for everyone to experience what it has to offer!
Jungle Juice has what you need when battling nefarious foes... or jumping into a hole that was deeper than you remember!

Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATE
Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. October has been jam-packed with conventions, playtesting and game development. George has been hard at work on more fantastic art assets and we’re continuing to perfect the modular boss miniatures. We’ve got an Essen recap for you, as well as a spotlight on the Halloween promo pack unlocked during the campaign.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
ESSEN SPIEL RECAP At the start of October, we were showing Terraria: The Board Game at Essen Spiel, the world’s largest tabletop game convention. Over 200,000 attendees visited the show; thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat about the game, to play a demo and to see the playmat in person! It was a wonderful chance to meet backers of the Kickstarter, fans of the game and also board gamers who had never heard of Terraria.
The Paper Fort Games booth team at Essen Spiel 2024!
Our demo table was full from open to close on all 4 days of the convention, and it was extremely rewarding to watch attendees explore the game. Here’s an excerpt from a review left by a player of the demo:
“…I played the demo at Essen this weekend- INCREDIBLY fun experience, even with 3 other strangers. The developer was clearly passionate about taking the spirit of Terraria and translating it into boardgame format … The best part of all, is no matter which choice you make you will still be progressing the game forward and generating value to the team … Many actions you make, including exploring can be highly rewarding. I don’t know if the path that my team took would have resulted in victory (honestly, I don't care) but subsequent games would force us to be a little more efficient with our actions to accomplish objectives and make progress toward a victory. Taking the first action was intimidating at first with all of the freedom of choice, but after you use the first or second action point it clicks…”
Thanks to @Yakos on BGG for uploading this picture of a game in progress at Essen!
If you live in the US, we’ll be at PAX Unplugged in December; we’ll be sharing more details in November’s SOTG so keep an eye out!

COMPONENT SPOTLIGHT: HALLOWEEN PROMO PACK As this is our October update and Halloween is almost upon us, it seemed appropriate to show you some more of the Halloween Promo Pack, unlocked as a stretch goal during the Kickstarter campaign and included with every pledge!
Pumpkin Armor: Gourd-ness me; don’t you look fetching! Now we know that technically, this armor isn’t a Halloween item in the videogame, but it seemed right to put it in this pack! This set provides a tasty boost to your base defence, but also grants the ability to re-roll your lowest value attack die once per turn; perfect for having a second go at a pesky enemy.
Rotten Egg: What’s that smell? That’s right; it’s everyone’s favourite antisocial consumable! Discard this card to perform a free medium-range attack (or maybe that should be a free-range medium attack?), rolling 2 four-sided dice.
Bladed Glove: Is that you, Freddy? This short-range weapon is cheap and speedy; just a single action point to roll 3 four-sided dice. Terrarian trivia buffs might know that despite its appearance, the Bladed Glove is classified as a sword in the videogame and as such will occupy that slot on your character board.
These Halloween items will be available in your games via the Goodie Bag, an optional card that you can add to the base game chest cards.
---
NEW ART: EQUIPMENT AND HOUSES George has recently been working his way through the game’s equipment; here are some of our favourite pieces!
From left to right: Gold Bow, War Axe of the Night, Blood Butcherer, Dark Lance, Slime Staff, Ice Blade and Tendon Bow
We’ve also been working with Re-Logic to perfect the game’s houses; you’ll build these (placing their tiles into your world) to unlock new crafting stations and powerup tokens throughout the game. We wanted the earliest houses to look basic and later ones to be more ornate, representing the way that players’ base building skills (and the items available to them) develop over the course of the game.
What’s your favourite detail in the houses? Let us know in the comments!
---
GAME DEVELOPMENT Here are some of the game’s features we’ve been focusing on this month:
Simplification of debuffs; these are now represented by tokens rather than cards and have an inbuilt 2-turn cooldown system.
Adjustments to objectives to preserve early game momentum
Boss behaviour alterations
Further quality of life changes to the character boards, Bestiary/ crafting menu and minimap console.
Here’s a photo from a recent in-house playtest with Luke from fellow Nottingham-based design studio Iconiq Games (creators of the official Saw board game; very Halloween-appropriate!). A timely yoyo strike on a weakened King Slime, a mad dash to the ocean and a perfectly-placed pylon secured a victory!
I’ll be back next month with another designer diary. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

Terraria State of the Game - September 2024
Greetings Terrarians!
Fall is almost here, and we can't wait. For several members of the team, this is their favorite time of the year - Halloween decorations are already starting to go up! Speaking of, we hope everyone is already coming up with ideas for cool Terraria pumpkin carvings, costumes, and art because we always love to see them. In the meantime, the teams remain hard at work on adding/tweaking/fixing content for Terraria 1.4.5. The finish line is starting to take shape, though we admittedly do have a couple of decent-sized ideas we want to discuss internally and decide if we should take those on before we can say for certain. How's that for vague? All that said, we are pretty excited for what is in Terraria 1.4.5 already, what we know is still to be added, and what may or may not be yet to come. Just a little while longer...
All that said, let's see what's going on in the world of Terraria...
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - WHITTLING DOWN THE FINAL LISTS
As we mentioned in the opening of the State of the Game, the team has the final list in-hand - as well as a few possible additional things that we might include, which we will decide in the next couple of weeks - and is hard at work with getting all of that content together. Terraria 1.4.5 has turned into quite an update, far exceeding our initial intent to "just do the Dead Cells content". We know the update process has been longer than usual (or anyone expected), but the end is in sight and we hope that it will not be too much longer before we can get and give a sense for timing.
We had a few spoilers in mind for this month, but none of them really felt right and/or are things we may not want to spoil at all before the update drops. So, that being the case, no spoilers from the PC side this month, I'm afraid. Of course, it is always a good time to look back on the tons of spoilers given for this update thus far - even we were floored by what all has been shared so far!
Oh, and if you haven't checked out Core Keeper yet, you should - the team at Pugstorm are good people and they have created a pretty fun game!

The tModLoader team and our amazing community of contributors continues to improve tModLoader. On October 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. Once again this month's release contains many improvements to the user experience, some gameplay bug fixes, as well as new features with examples and documentation for mod makers.
One major contribution we'd like to highlight this month is work by alueck that enables Max and Linux users to contribute directly to tModLoader. If you are a Mac or Linux user and have been wanting to contribute a new feature to tModLoader, it should now be possible and we are willing to help on Discord if you run into any roadblocks.

PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
Alongside keeping pace with the Re-Logic PC team in regards to adding all of the content and changes coming with Terraria 1.4.5, the DR Studios team has spent a considerable amount of time thinking of ways to evolve and improve the experience on console and mobile. One such area of focus has been around the issue of the screen feeling cluttered - especially on devices with smaller screens - due to the number of control buttons that are needed to enable a fully-operational control scheme for Terraria. We have brainstormed a lot of ways to tackle this issue, and we feel like we have landed on a pretty good new option for players - Radial Buttons!
These new radial buttons that let you combine up to 4 different actions into one button. Our main goal with them is to help cut down on clutter, as well as to better associate related actions in defaults (for example, combining potions + cursor options together in their own radial buttons). These support quick swipe gestures if you want to instantly use something, and are fully customizable by the player.
These will eventually be accompanied by a new default scheme, but there is a lot of discussion and iteration that needs to happen before we can show that to you.
We hope this will give players that find the screen to be a bit crowded on mobile a new way to play!

Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!

Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. The last month has flown by at Paper Fort Games HQ thanks to ongoing game development, playtesting, art production and convention preparation. In this month’s designer diary, I’ll be sharing development news, playmat and Developer Set art, videos of our latest Boss miniature prototypes and a look at how we’ve recently been using lasers as part of the design process.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
PLAYMAT ART In my last design diary, I shared George’s detailed black and white sketches of the Terrarian vs Wall of Flesh art piece that will be featured on the full-art side of the game’s playmat. He’s been hard at work bringing that scene to life and we’re very excited to reveal the full-colour art below!
Here’s the process from first sketch to final art:
We’ve also been updating the other side of the playmat; the one that helps you to set up the game. It features pre-printed starting biome tiles and spaces for NPCs, objectives and more. As you’ll be building your world on this side of the mat, we’ve opted to keep it relatively simple, so it doesn't detract from important gameplay information:
We can’t wait to see a physical version of this playmat; a sample is being produced right now and we're hoping to have it at our booth during Essen Spiel (more about that below), so swing by to see it if you’re there!
--- BOSS MINIATURES The latest prototypes of our boss miniatures recently arrived at the office; in the video below, you can see examples of the key system that allows boss parts to be removed/ swapped out during boss battles.
King Slime isn’t quite there yet; the transparent material looks pretty good but his key system needs further improvement. Also, the minis in this video are just spray painted; these won’t be their final colours as they will be cast in specific colour-matched plastics we have chosen for each boss.
The great thing about high-quality 3D printing is that we can try these models out, make changes and make sure they work before committing to making the final casting moulds.
---
GAME DEVELOPMENT (AND LASERS!) Here are some of the game’s features we’ve been focusing on this month:
Addition of a ‘threat’ track to speed up the game, incentivise Boss engagement and pave the way for threat level-dependent behaviour/ events in future expansions.
Enhancements to the player board layout and shape.
Implementation of an enemy retaliation mechanism.
Addition of low-level consumables cards available to buy from the merchant NPC.
Simplification of NPC spawning criteria.
Improvement of the deluxe bestiary/ crafting menu layout for quicker, easier lookup.
Most of the changes above are mechanism-based, but some (like changes to the player board and the bestiary/ crafting menu) are physical. Previously we relied on manufacturers sending updated punchboard components, but Chris has recently been learning how to use an industrial laser cutter to make our own prototype punchboard components. No more cutting things out by hand or waiting for updated components to be shipped to us; we can now make a change, try it out and adjust as necessary within a very short timeframe. It’s a game-changer!
---
Playmat Sketches One of the add-ons available with Terraria: The Board Game is the giant world playmat. One side features the game’s UI and provides a surface on which to build your world. The other will feature a full-art Terrarian vs. Wall of Flesh scene; below are George’s black + white work-in progress sketches of the showdown art. We can’t wait to share the full-colour art piece; the mat will be perfect as a desk mat or for playing other card games.
---
DEVELOPER SETS George recently finished all of the Developer vanity sets for the game; here they are in all their painted glory! We’d like to say a huge thank you to the Re-Logic team for letting us include them, and for the developers’ feedback on their sets.
---
MEET US AT ESSEN SPIEL! From October 3rd to 6th, we’ll be showing Terraria: The Board Game at Essen Spiel in Germany; the world’s largest tabletop game convention. If you’re coming to the show, we’d love to meet you; please stop by Hall 4, booth 4C430 to check out the latest version of the game (we’re between Hall 5 and the Galleria).
---
We're looking forward to sharing even more next month. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

Terraria State of the Game - August 2024
Greetings Terrarians!
Back to school already? That may have set the record for the fastest-feeling Summer of all time. We hope everyone at least got a chance to grab some fun times with friends and family over the past few months - before we all plunge headlong into what Fall has in store. On the Terraria front, we are full speed ahead in the second half of the year, with development of 1.4.5 still going quite well (we are nearing the 50th beta of this dev cycle!). Each month sees the addition of even more cool stuff - we are particularly excited for what was added this month, though we are only going to spoil one of the more "shocking" tidbits for now. We know everyone wants that juicy release date still, but we are patiently working through our list of "to do's", and we do not want to ever cut any corners... so it will still be a bit longer, I'm afraid.
With that out of the way... let's take a look at a particularly intriguing State of the Game!
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - WEATHERING THE STORM
While Terraria has had various weather effects for quite some time, they have mostly been cosmetic. Outside of wind - which can impact movement and projectiles - and possibly the visibility-limiting blizzard/sandstorms, weather has never really played a huge role in the Terraria adventure. Terraria 1.4.5 aims to change that up a bit by not only adding some new natural/weather phenomenons, but also making some weather elements more... interactive.
Remember, if you feel your hair standing on end, it may be time to seek shelter indoors! How shocking!
What other goodies have the team added this month? Well, be sure to check out the Console/Mobile section for at least one more spoiler... but as always, some things will remain a secret. Until next time folks!
STEAM WORKSHOP NEWS

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
Whittling down the list of remaining items, discussing what - if anything - should be added to said list.
TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
The tModLoader team and our amazing community of contributors continues to improve tModLoader. On September 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. This month's release contains many improvements to the user experience, some gameplay bug fixes, as well as new features with examples and documentation for mod makers.
One new feature we want to showcase in particular is in-game workshop tag filtering. This has been a highly requested feature and we hope this new filter will help users find the mods they want more easily in-game. We expect this feature to especially help users find mods that support their native language.
TMODLOADER STEAM WORKSHOP
The TML Steam Workshop has over 6000 mods for you to enjoy! Coupled with the in-game mod browser, the TML Steam Workshop is a great way to explore what modded Terraria has to offer - check it out today by clicking the banner above!
This month, the DR team spent a good amount of time on some polish and QOL projects specific to Console and Mobile that we have had on the list for a good while. While we are keeping pace well with the development pipeline for Terraria 1.4.5 on PC, we were pleased that we had some available time to go ahead and tackle these rather than having to wait for a future update. More on that at a later time. That said, let's check out a quick Terraria spoiler, shall we?
IF YOU LOVE YOUR CRITTERS SET THEM FREE!
Think outside the cage - free your captured critters from confinement while keeping them close by!
Terraria 1.4.5 will allow players to place captured critters out in the open via "leashing" them to a specific location. We hope this will help make your favorite Terraria world feel more lively than ever!

Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!

Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. This month, we’ve got development news, art to share, and an update on our adopted hive.
If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below...
Game Development Over the past month, we’ve been fine-tuning some of the game’s mechanisms and rules based on feedback received from backers and playtesters. Here are some of the features we’ve been focusing on:
Movement, digging and line-of-sight rules (these have been simplified and made more consistent)
Weapon range adjustments to better reflect the digital game
Hook-based movement; equip a hook to get around more easily!
Difficulty scaling for 1/2 player vs 3/4 player games, including changes to objectives, bosses and available inventory slots based on player count.
Small changes to resource/ equipment sharing rules to disincentivise inventory offloading pre-death
Addition of pylons allowing long-distance mid to end-game travel.
We’ve also been working on physical aspects of the game, making some quality-of-life improvements to the player boards and enemy wound tracking.
---
Biome Tiles: Now with Fan-Chosen Critters! A few months ago, and during the campaign, we asked for fans’ favourite critters, and we’ve been adding as many of them as we can to the game’s biome tiles (alongside ambient objects!). Below are just a few examples (there are many, many more!); which critters can you spot?
Adding these new features has really brought the tiles to life and made each feel even more unique. Though these are just aesthetic additions, we hope you’ll have fun discovering your favourite critters amongst the tiles!
---
Modular Miniatures We’ve been working closely with our manufacturing partners on the boss miniatures to make sure that they’re easy to put together and take apart; below are examples of the ‘key’ system we’re working on. We’ve requested a couple of changes (for example, now that King Slime is transparent, we need to change the direction of the keys so that the sticky-out bit of the crown isn’t visible inside the miniature) but even so, we are hoping to receive physical samples for all of the miniatures in the next couple of weeks so we can test them out. We’ll share a video of the miniatures in action when they arrive!
---
Playmat Sketches One of the add-ons available with Terraria: The Board Game is the giant world playmat.
---
The Underground Hive is Live! The beehive that we adopted as part of the campaign’s social goals has now been chosen; the team down at Much Birch went above and beyond, taking the time to choose a hive worthy of the ‘Underground Jungle’ name! The sign reads 'The 'Underground Jungle' Hive; adopted by Paper Fort Games on behalf of the Terraria community'.
We're looking forward to sharing even more next month. Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below:

TERRARIA GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES - ISSUE 7 ON THE HORIZON
The latest installment in the Terraria Graphic Novel journey is nearly upon us! When we last left our heroes, they were deep underground, and in quite a predicament! How will they get out of this one... and what else lies in store for Vale and crew? Fans won't have to wait much longer to find out, as Issue 7 will be available soon. Here's a sneak peek at the cover as well as some of the goodies that will be available alongside the Issue 7 release:
Issue 7 will be available just as soon as we have all of the various materials in-house and ready to ship! We will let everyone know once that moment arrives.
---
Of course, Issues 1-6 of the Graphic Novel Series are available for purchase - and preorders for the retail version of Book One (Issues 1-4, plus some fun bonus content) are still ongoing. We think you are really going to enjoy some of the "side stories" that we have planned... we just finished a fun one for Book One.
Thank you again for all your support. We are working on some really exciting developments and cannot wait for you to see what we have in store for you.

TERRARIA DISCORD & PENGUIN GAMES PARKOUR COLLABORATION
For our next Terraria Discord event, we have partnered with Penguin Games to create a parkour speedrun event! This speedrun event will have two separate brackets to ensure everyone has a chance at getting a place no matter their skill level.
The beginners bracket will play the course: Empyrean. The experienced bracket will play the course: Sans.
Because the experienced bracket will be running on a more advanced course, the prizes for placing high on the leaderboard will be more grand. While you can only submit active times for ONE BRACKET, you are free to switch for any reason. When switching brackets, the event team will remove any times you had from the leaderboard from the bracket you're switching from. Because of this though, we will not be doing a public leaderboard until the event is over.
Join the official Terraria Discord and visit our #server-announcement channel for all parkour event details.
Until next time, Terrarians - we hope you have an amazing month, and we look forward to bringing you the latest and greatest next time!
Terraria State of the Game - July 2024
Greetings Terrarians!
What a ridiculously hot month July has been for pretty much everyone, and we are not just talking about the temperatures outside. Can you believe that it has been a year since the Great War of Axes & Trees? Of course, this year, it's been the the Terraria CEO Standoff - which way did you fall on how Terraria should be pronounced? What did you make of Temporary-CEO Chippy's ideas for the game? Anything there you'd like to see become a reality?
All that said, let's get into the latest and greatest of all things Terraria!
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - WHIPPING UP SOME 1.4.5 SPOILERS
Observant Terrarians have likely noted several new whips that are coming your way in Terraria 1.4.5 - welcome additions for all of those summoner players out there! We haven't really taken a close look at a lot of these, but we thought we might do so with a never-before-seen whip. One imbued with the very power of the Queen of the Terrarian Jungle...
Unleash the volatile energies that permeate the Jungle on unwary foes - what a Vulgar Display of Flower indeed!
The team, of course, remains hard at work on both adding new things as well as tweaking and fixing things that we have already added. We know everyone wants a release date/window, but we are not ready to provide that just yet. Just be patient for us a bit longer... it will be worth it in the end.

PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
The team at DR Studios has been able to spend a bit of time on the side diving into Terraria crossplay in an attempt to make some progress on that in parallel to the ongoing work on Terraria 1.4.5. The sooner we can get to the unanswered questions there, the better, right? Again, no promises, but we are happy with the progress thus far. That said, shall we dive into some 1.4.5 spoiler action?
CHANGE YOUR VOICE, FOOL YOUR FRIENDS, FUN AT PARTIES!
Why be stuck with the same old human voice effects when you can embrace your inner zombie... or turkey?
Terraria 1.4.5 introduces all new accessories that will allow players to change the way they sound.

Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. The Kickstarter campaign for Terraria: The Board Game might be over, but the work continues at Paper Fort HQ! I’ll be carrying on with my designer diary over the next few months, providing a behind-the-scenes peek at the ongoing development and manufacturing process, but this month I’m going to recap our favorite bits of the campaign.
If you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available at the link below:
Over 15,000 Terrarians supported the campaign, raising over 2 million dollars; what an incredible total! It’s not all about the final number, of course; we had a fantastic time getting there too. Here are some of our campaign highlights:
- We unlocked over 50 stretch goals to maximise the content and quality of the game, including a transparent King Slime boss miniature, promo packs, deluxe dice, developer vanity sets and a foiled, uniquely numbered, limited edition Pwnhammer card for every backer!
- We were able to support conservation charities via our social goals; we've adopted an orca, penguins, a beehive and a vulture on behalf of the Terraria community, as well as planting 100 trees!
- We held an AMA over on the official Terraria Discord and answered loads of great questions from fans; about the game, about working with the Re-Logic team and even about our favourite snacks… You can read all of the questions and our answers here: PAPER FORT GAMES AMA RECAP.
Thanks again to the amazing Discord mod team for hosting the AMA and for the community for making us feel so welcome!
- We hosted an in-game build contest, featuring some incredible entries!
Thank you again to every single one of you who supported the campaign in any way; we really, really appreciate it and we’re very excited to show you more over the coming months!

TERRARIA GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES - SHIPPING COSTS UPDATE & MORE
Our friends at 50 Amp Productions have some news and reminders that they would like to share - check it out!
We heard a great deal of concern about the price of international shipping... and we agreed! International shipping rates are ridiculous. It took us more time than we hoped because the feat was greater than we had imagined. However, we are happy to share that our new shipping services have been integrated into our web store, and you should find that your shipping rates were slashed to a fraction of what they once were.
Come by and check it out! And if you live in a country that has not yet seen the price change, email us at help@50ampproductions.com (mailto:help@50ampproductions.com) and tell us what country and we will look into it for you.
For US fans, if you go to the site, you will see there are shipping savings for you as well. Spend $40 and we will pay your shipping for you. As a thank you for your continued support!
The graphic novel collection is available for preorders on Barnes and Noble, Target.com, Amazon, Booksamillion…you name it! The release date is October 15 and you will be ordering direct from the retailer. We priced it at $10.99, essentially giving you over 20 pages for free. The book collects volume 1, issues 1-4 of the continuing comic book series and will get you ready to read volume 2! We are really proud of the book and hope you check it out.
Lastly, we wanted to remind you that as you read this, all materials from issues 1-6 are in stock and shipping within days of order, barring mail holidays, of course! There is no preorder this time, so you can check it out, order it, and have it in your hands all within a tiny window of time.
The Terraria community is filled with incredible fan media. We love to browse Terraria associated social pages and check out the creative minds sharing wonderful creations.
