I've been working lately on making Just Flip look a bit more alive. I'm currently putting together some new screenshots and a new preview video.
Also a lot of game play updates but more on that later.
Stay tuned!
Work In Progress: Skiing Proof Of Concept
Just a quick drive-by update to let everyone know I'm still working on things. I'm currently putting together a more in-depth proof of concept for the skiing mechanic. This lets me flesh out what works and what doesn't and helps me figure out some of the look and feel.
Getting close to done with the skiing proof of concept then plan to move on to building the actual game level.
As always let me know if you have any questions.
Settings Screen and Input
Updates are a bit slow and un-exciting right now as I work on some of the more mundane game systems. Trying to get everything in place so I can begin the fun stuff... building the actual mountain that you will flip and ski over.
Finished the first pass of the Setting screen a while back and now I'm setting up my input system to support both mouse/keyboard and game controllers.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates soon...ish.

Main Menu for Just Flip
Started working on the menu system for Just Flip.
A few things:
The background color will be the color of the sky that corresponds to your current progress within the game.
The smoke from the chimney is animated.
It snows.
Next up, the setting screen....

Just Flip (and Ski???)
While I love how the flipping mechanic turned out for "Just Flip", I have started to wonder if it's enough to carry the game.
I kept having the feeling that the game needed a better "Hook". Well, I already had a skiing mechanic that people seemed to like in Just Ski, so why not combine them.
The above is a very rough, down and dirty, prototype of flipping combined with skiing.
I would love to know what you think of the idea.

New Background Graphics Finished
I finally finished the new background graphics for Just Flip. Above is how it looks in action.
It took a bit to land on this final design. See below to see how things shook out over time.
Here is how things looked with no background:
Here is my 1st pass at a background. The parallax for this one did not work well and the mountains sort of looked like pine trees to me.
Getting closer. I liked the way this looked, still pretty minimal which I wanted.
Trees!. This one is identical to the one above, but I added some "trees". This idea came from looking at Alto's Adventure screenshots. :-)
That's it. Background is complete so now I can move on to other things!

Fiddling with background graphics.
Down a bit of a rabbit hole with these background graphics, but they are fun to mess with and I think they add a nice touch to the game.
