This update won't be packed as other have been, we've mainly spent time tweaking things, solving bugs and added a couple of things.
Added:
A little animation to the intro scene where the bears are getting ready to fight against the soldiers.
Added another scene where the first soldier Potato kicks ends up smashing against a tree.
Another small dialogue in-game
Apple trees are now valid targets for Potato's attack once unlocked, apples will be targetted by default and will fall down. They can then be eaten to regain half a hp
Bugs solved included previous lag issues and a couple of minor gameplay-related ones.
That is all! Next update coming on Friday 26th, until then!
CONTENT UPDATE!
Hello everyone!
Friday is here and so we have a new update! We're finished updating the game engine regarding the player physics issues touched upon in earlier announcements, and seems to be stable for now (took a while longer than expected too).
We've stabilised physics and animations at 60FPS while leaving rendering between 40 and your natural monitor resfresh rate (assuming it's no higher that 60).
Unfortunately, lag issues have somehow presented themselves again and we will be looking into those in the next few days.
Aside from that and a couple of minor additions and bug corrections, we've put our most recent efforts into improving the prologue intro, adding movement and effects to a few more scenes along with background music at the beggining and during potato's fight scenes.
Another major addition is that of a loading screen before the intro and the gameplay level, to avoid having to stare at a black screen for a few seconds while waiting for it to load.
That's it for now. We will be updating the game sporadically during the next couple of weeks to prepare it for reviews, nonetheless we will post a summary each Friday detailing the additions and fixes implemented throughout the week.
Have a good weeked everyone, until next Friday!
DEV UPDATE
Hello everyone!
We have some bad news for you this time. In order to solve the physics related bug posted in the earlier announcement, we have been forced to make some changes to the game engine, which are taking some time.
Due to this we have been unable to add much during this week, and we have decided to wait until next Friday to update the game.
We are sorry for making you wait; we will continue to work on the engine and add more content in order to, hopefully, give you an updated and stable version next week.
Next update will therefore be on Friday 12th, until then!
CONTENT UPDATE!
Hello everyone!
We have some new content for you and some additions/improvements to already existing stuff:
Game intro:
Added movement to the flag and soldier invasion scenes
Gameplay:
Rectangular boxes found on travel paths are now breakable using Potato's attack once unlocked!
The signpost found right after the bridge can now be viewed infinitely instead of a single time
The bridge to be lowered now generates dust when hitting the ground
Fliers the player interacts with will now be broken and left on the path instead of just taken
Added an animated flag to the soldier fort found in the latter stage of the gameplay level
Added clouds to the temple preview scene background
Julius now turns towards whatever background element it is interacting with rather than staying still looking to the side
Bugs solved:
Some entities used to be rendered in the wrong order, i.e. you sometimes found them on top of others when they shouldn't be
The pause menu bugs underlined in the last post
Wobbly camera during the temple preview at the end of the gameplay level
Bugs found:
We've noticed that physics can get wonky at lower FPS values, we will be fixing this with the next update
We'll be switching to weekly updates from now on. Next one coming on the 5th July, stay tuned!
CONTENT UPDATE!
Hello everyone!
We're very happy to announce we have another update full of new stuff, including features we couldn't implement a couple of weeks ago.
New features
First look at Potato's attack mechanics!
Damage from excessive heights
Thorns now take away half a hp instead of a whole one
More interactions with the environment for you to find out
Player-controlled camera movement (lower right direction keys on the keyboard, right thumb stick with the XBOX controller)
Player-controlled zoom levels (z key if playing with the keyboard, right thumbstick down if using an XBOX controller)
For those of you who are more technically oriented:
VSync!
Dynamic FPS control, from 40 to 60 depending on natural monitor frequency
So far internal tests indicate these additions fix previous lag issues.
New bugs (ouch)
We have noticed a couple of new bugs in the pause menu (potato symbol is off when opening it during gameplay, and the quests window's text is off and has the wrong size depending on camera zoom).
We will work to get these fixed before the new update. Meanwhile feel free to let us know what you think and to leave any bug-related comments on the appropiate thread!
New update coming on the 28th of June, stay tuned!!
DEV UPDATE
Hello everyone!
We have some good news and some not so good news.
First of all, we've been implementing new stuff as anticipated in our earlier announcement, including Potato's attack mechanics, some new level interactions and updates on character HP loss.
Unfortunately, we have noticed that such updates have introduced substantial amounts of lag on some systems. We had already been made aware that the game lagged somewhat at times, but now it seems to have worsened considerably on systems without an SSD drive.
To that end we would like to hold onto the new content for another two weeks until we can solve these technical issues to give you a better gaming experience (fancy way of saying we want the game to work properly for everyone).
We apologize for announcing content that we can't yet deliver, we'll do our best to fix the issue and deliver it all on the next update.
During that time we'll also be implementing other stuff to bring you (hopefully) a more updated and complete version of the prologue working at proper speed.
Next update coming on the 14th June! Stay tuned!!
NEW FEATURES COMING SOON!
This is what we're currently working on and plan to implement by the end of May.
- Potato's attack mechanics
- More and improved world interactions within the prologue level
- HP loss reduction to half a point for small injuries - lose half a life instead of one when you hit those nasty thorns!
- HP loss from falls from excessive heights
