Following issues are addressed in this patch:

  • Soundtrack files install to the correct location once more
  • Fixed illegible text in rewards message after battle
  • Fixed issue with the attack impact count changing when moving the hero in the Hakon/Bolverk battle
  • Fixed having to click quit twice for survival mode UX flow issue

Banner Saga 2 Update

In this update we fixed an annoying issue some players were experiencing seeing a green screen in place of cinematics. We also made under the hood improvements and balance updates, with additional fixes to localized languages.

  • Cinematics: Green Screen During Cinematics on some system configs is fixed
  • Ability: Inability to perform an action when Hit and Run triggers on a surrounded character has been fixed
  • Story: Story continuity fixes and improvements

Prepare for the End - Banner Saga 3 Is Coming!



Our players have been hugely supportive throughout the development of the trilogy. Thanks to those of you who reported bugs, gave us feedback about performance and ideas for improvements. We’ve been listening carefully to all of you and are releasing a build for Banner Saga 2 (and Banner Saga 1) in preparation for the launch of the finale.


  • Volume Sliders: Added independent audio channel volume adjustment
  • Stats: Added a stats preview on the Hero Party selection screen.
  • Performance: Made several performance improvements.
  • Bugs: Several bug fixes are included in this build. Thanks for sending in bug reports!
  • Translation: We’ve added the Chinese language and updated the Brazilian Portuguese language, as well as added many other Localization fixes.
  • SDK: We’ve made various SDK updates and adjustments.

Following is a list of specific fixes made in Banner Saga 2, many additional incremental fixes have been made across both the foundational code base and game engine that do not appear in this list:
  • Folka’s Champion ability leads to unexpected behaviors from protected Hero
  • Camp music cut off abruptly
  • Some SFX are audible during the Tutorial while the sound is muted
  • In certain instances game does not detect final saves from Saga 1
  • Floating text is not displayed properly at the two last strikes of "Bloody Flail" ability
  • Language setting is being reset to English in certain situations
  • Mogun is missing from Bolverk's caravan in chapter 9 when the game has been imported
  • Slag and Burn ability causes large amount of internal errors impacting performance
  • Letting Survival summary roll over after losing final battle causes survival game end before all reloads are depleted
  • Missing UI element in main menu after losing the final battle in Survival
  • Attacking strength of the king while King Guards are alive may cause softlock
  • Game is locked on Oddleif's turn at the beginning of second fight against the King
  • Rest icon is selected without user input
  • Horseborn Cantref, Javeliner and Canary become invisible for a brief moment at the end of their attack animation
  • Tooltips are not displaying on World Map
  • Supply Barrel popup description appears after the player moves mouse from it
  • Travel sequence does not start in Chapter 8 when attempting to depart from the town
  • Survival - Several partially transparent images overlap each other on Results Banner
  • Rupture ability does not cause wounded allies to explode
  • Skulker is able to finish his turn on occupied square
  • Dredge Direguard - Soft-lock after hero is damaged by Drumfire ability
  • Camp - The Crest image is missing
  • Chapter 11 / Eyeless Battle - Crash after the battle board is loaded in certain circumstances
  • Crash in the beginning of Chapter 11 in certain circumstances

Improvements and Fixes Updates


  • Map: Added tooltip translations for map locations. By default, a tooltip follows the mouse, or you can hit the TAB key to toggle them all off and on.
  • Hotkeys: Add control/alt arrow keys for cycling through allies, and shift arrow keys for cycling through enemies
  • Hotkeys: Add cycling of abilities with the '2' hotkey
  • Battle: Items won in battle now show up in the Battle Resolution red banner screen
  • Battle: Units Injured in battle are now summarized on the Battle Resolution red banner screen
  • Performance: Optimization of AI think time
  • Survival: Fix User's score highlight missing from leaderboards (Survival Mode)
  • Survival: Fix Funeral sound being played on progress screen (Survival Mode)
  • Misc: Fix issues with enemies stepping into invisible characters' tiles and causing errors
  • Misc: Fix issue when using Impale and Overwatch with Knockback items
  • Misc: The Gold Bridle now correctly drops after the Etingbekkr battle

Missing Mogun Hotfix



This Hotfix addresses the community reported Missing Mogun issue and other issues impacting game and game performance:

  • Misc: Fixed Mogun is missing from Bolverk's caravan in chapter 9 when the game has been imported issue
  • Misc: Fixed issue causing animations and images to vanish during a long play session ssue
  • Misc: Fixedmissing UI in main menu after losing the final battle in Survival issue
  • Misc: Fixed attacking strength of the king while King Guards are alive may cause softlock issue

Greetings, loyal Stoic fans!

We will have more to report about Banner Saga 3 very soon, but in the meantime we have some exciting news about Stoic’s debut as a publisher.

Alex Thomas, co-founder of Stoic and co-creator of the Banner Saga, has just released his first solo project Killers and Thieves with the help of Stoic. This is a different kind of game from their signature viking epic but shares a lot of its DNA. As part of the Stoic community, we want you to be among the first to know.



Killers and Thieves puts players into the role of the guildmaster, the shadowy figure lying at the heart of a medieval thieves’ guild. Recruit street rats, train them up into highly-skilled burglars and cutthroats, and then set them loose in a vast, living city. It’s available now, and you can find more info and a trailer on Steam:

The heart of the game is the heist, featuring tactical real-time action as you control your crew as they break into buildings, dodge guard patrols, snatch everything valuable and then vanish into the shadows. At least, that’s the idea; all too often, emergent gameplay factors will turn your carefully laid plans into a blood-soaked mess.



The world reacts to how you play, and while you are patching up the wounded and selling your ill-gotten goods on the black market, guard patrols will shift and challenge levels will change. You can adapt as well, staking out the wealthiest and least guarded parts of the city, picking your own targets, and the open-ended experience is tied together by a compelling story of betrayal and revenge.

Alex’s gorgeous art has drawn inspiration from paintings and prints from the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, giving it a warm, hand-made feel. Don’t be fooled, though: this game is tough. Keeping the books balanced won’t be easy, and professional criminals are unforgiving when they don’t get paid.



For those eagerly awaiting more details about Banner Saga 3, the good news is that with Killers and Thieves completed and released, Alex is now returning to write the finale of the grim viking epic full-time. The band is back together and working hard, though there is still a long road ahead.
