We’ve noticed a lot of new and returning fans to The Banner Saga 3. We’re breaking down what you should know before starting.

  • Import your save from The Banner Saga 2. You’ve put a lot of blood, sweat, and [mostly] tears into your story. Keep the caravan together and import your story!
  • Spread around the Renown. You’ll use Renown to upgrade your characters. Spreading around the Renown across the caravan versus only a few characters will allow you to build varied parties. Also, in traditional The Banner Saga fashion, you never know who you might lose.
  • Jump into the Eternal Arena. Compete in a weekly, global tournament and get your name on the leaderboard. Or try the sandbox mode with all the characters and enemies from the series.

Banner Saga 3 - 2.60.22 Patch Notes

This release contains balance pass and bug fixes for both Banner Saga 3 and Eternal Arena.

Saga 3 v1.4.2 2.60.22 Patch Notes:


    Bug Fixes and Improvements:
  • Low rank characters had their abilities improperly removed on subsequent playthroughs
  • Updated player spawn with guaranteed 2x2 spawning areas for the surrounded board on the steps of the white tower
  • Removed word 'each' from no saves string
  • Disabled dredge bell so stunned enemies that try to ring the bell don't cause an error
  • Quitting while waiting for an arrangement to return from the server
  • Heroic titles were not properly resetting when characters were reset from the assemble hero scenes
  • Item duplication bug in Eternal Arena
  • Setting of pillage mode in Eternal Arena was disabled because of an incorrect string in code
  • Added tooltips for heroes to Eternal Arena Setup and Roster
  • Initiative order was wrong in Pillage batles in Eternal Arena. This has been corrected
  • Removed Nikels from Eternal Arena line up
  • Nikels added back to Eternal Arena by popular demand - who doesn’t love Nikels?
  • Addressed several performance issues
  • Client work for the server versioning
  • Localization fixes
  • Ran a fix pass on Eyeless's possession ability
  • Eyeless was incorrectly assigned as the killer in some cases when her possessed minion was slain - was a problem in Battle of Strength
  • Balance pass on danger calculation for Eternal Arena Scoring
  • Increased the size of the player deployment area for the Bolverk fight board for Survival Mode and Eternal Arena to support 6 2x2 heroes
  • Apostate no longer has both abilities at level 3 when rank 1
  • An enemy always being left out of the battle when making a pillage arena in Eternal Arena
  • Polish to help UI in Eternal Arena Details page
  • Adjusted item filters so that an item option only appears if there are at least 6 items at the current hero rank
  • Rebalanced stat costs, mostly willpower
  • Removed 'A Decisive Battle'/speed run scoring rule from Eternal Arena
  • Added ea3e_server.json to have more restrictive enemy options when the server randomly creates a challenge
  • Rupture to only fire on dredge and skulkers
  • Addressed error where multi_wave_hero_sum scoring was incorrect

Banner Saga 3 Update

This update contains several fixes and balance adjustments for our recent Survival Mode feature, as well as improvements to performance, balance and text fixes.

Patch Notes:



  • Survival Mode: Incorrect achievements granting is fixed
  • Survival Mode: Enemies no longer spawn on top of each other in certain battles
  • Survival Mode: Now possible to win first battle without a 1x1 sized hero

Banner Saga 3 Japanese Update

Snuck into our recent Banner Saga 3 v1.3 update was our language update for Japanese.

We have overhauled the Japanese language content for the entire game, we hope this is a big improvement over the language content we released with and closer to the quality bar you’ve come to expect.

New Build Including Survival Mode for Banner Saga 3!

Survival Mode for Banner Saga 3, the first DLC arrives in a new build, out today! Are you ready to put your tactical skills to the ultimate test? Run from the Darkness, and keep your party ahead of the onslaught in Banner Saga 3 Survival Mode!

Below please find the fixes and improvements in this build:

  • Improvement / New - Survival Mode added to the game as paid DLC
  • Achievement - Krumr's Mentor is now achievable
  • Achievement - The Wave Breaker is now achievable
  • Achievements - Player was erroneously awarded 'Scrape By' trophy after 'Sole Survivor' ending
  • Animation - Stray Bleed Animation after killing an enemy fixed
  • Audio - Game background sound and music now stops when minimizing the game or locking the screen
  • Audio - Iver's monologue in the base of the white tower no longer repeating

  • Graphical - Shield HP now disappears after being destroyed with one hit
  • Graphical - View of Arberrang is now displayed properly during the final cinematic if player finished playthrough without returning to the city
  • Graphical - Wall debris falling in a more natural way
    Localization – Many localization fixes
  • Save - Fully functional ‘Resume’ button is no longer present after player deleted all the Save Profile Slots.
  • Save – Game now Autosaves after Rugga Tent Battle
  • UI - "Load Game" window no longer remains displayed if opened right before the loading screen
  • UI - Achievement Strings are corrected from their placeholders
  • UI - Castaway Ability "Barbed Stones" no longer has placeholder text
  • UI - Characters can now use all points they have available
  • UI - During reinforcements, selecting empty space with controller in hero roster shows 'Remove' text
  • UI - Invisible buttons in pause menu can no longer be accessed by using a gamepad
  • UI - Localized Subtitles Now Working
  • UI - Placeholder text in Oddleif dialogue after meeting with the King event in French localization now removed
  • UI - Placeholder text is removed from Juno’s ‘Thread of Life’ ability in Information Panel during battle
  • UI - Poisoned Status Hover State Tooltip no longer contains placeholder debug string
  • UI - Selected button no longer persists during a wave battle
  • UI - Tally Page is now visible after the last return to the Arberrang
  • UI - Typo during Valgard's speech in chapter 21 is fixed
  • UI - User is now able to add points to talents other than default via gamepad in certain conditions
  • UI - With the controller you can now use the "Close" button on the ability window
  • UI – Marketplace background overlay now covers the entire screen
  • UI – The text of wave turn counter does now fits into the textbox in Japanese
  • UI – Typo in Unmoved Heroic Title Description is corrected

Banner Saga 3 2.56.03 Bug Fix Update

We have updated our 2.55.81 release build of Banner Saga 3 to address some of the issues that were reported:

  • Arberrang and Darkness caravan are swapped after losing the Frozen Lake battle
  • Player can still perform an attack after killing an enemy with a Valka Spear
  • Second Basement Wave does not spawn in the 3rd Return
  • Additional checking to make sure that gating isn't cleared prematurely during "lost battle" time loss consequence
  • Fixed Oddleif showing up in Arberrang return 5 in Ch.21 even if she no longer appears in Ch.20
  • Male Horseborn cause battle with waves to end prematurely
  • Story updated, after losing the Arberrang field battle, so it doesn't repeat
  • Fix for Eirik being mentioned in darkness popup when he's in Arberrang
  • Additional work to fix import issues Eirik - note this issue is impacted by what version of Banner Saga 2 your save game was on
