Brunch Club Arcade Update!

Hello Brunchers!

Firstly, thanks to all the new players we have gained since the last update! We’re really pushing for more reviews, so if you are enjoying the game, please consider leaving us a review as it really helps us out!

We have been working hard since launch to improve the game and fix any bugs that get reported to us or that we find during testing, but that is not all we’ve been doing!

PATCH NOTES

General optimizations
Meshes, lighting and compression. Some people on very low end
devices might notice some changes to loading times or during gameplay. This was mostly done for the console releases, especially switch, but good for notebooks etc

Levels Rework
Overall the levels just look a bit nicer now. Less harsh colours and a bit more populated

Changes
Standard Mode is now called “Main Course”

Difficulty -
All Main Course levels in the game now have 3 difficulty settings Easy, Medium, Hard

Easy -
Easy mode will give the player 4 objectives, allow anything to fall off the play area and all items will come back. Level modifiers are turned off.
You will earn 1 star for completing easy

Medium -
Medium mode will have 5 objectives, give you 3 lives (3 items can fall off the play area), Level modifiers are turned on. Only essential items come back.
You will earn 2 stars for completing medium

Hard -
Hard mode will have 6 objectives, allowing you to put a time on the leaderboard and have a “best time” in the level select. No items can fall off the play area otherwise it will be restarted. Level modifiers are on. We want players to work their way up to this difficulty rather than doing what we used to do and throw you in at the deep end. That wasn’t fun for everyone!
You will earn 3 stars for completing hard



Essential Items -
Essential items are any item that you need to complete the objective, items that spawn like scone/ sandwich halves are not listed as essential but items that are limited are. E.g Bread, Bacon etc. This means that on medium difficulty mistakes you make could mean the level becomes harder to complete.

Level Select redesign
We have redesigned the level selection screen to show off more of the available levels in one view as well as giving you access to all the information to do with that level.

Moved Rice ball Rumble - Rice Ball Rumble is now located in the ‘Brunch Club Arcade’ section in the Game mode selection menu.

Grief Timers in VS mode - We had some players frustrated that other players could just grief their side of the vs Level. We added a “Grief timer” to each player. If you are on your side of the level the timer fills up. When you are on the opposition's side and grab an object that belongs to them, you will use up this timer, when empty you will auto-de-possess an object and return to your side. The timer will then start to refill.



With A Vengeance - We were always concerned about the level mechanic within the “With A Vengeance” level. We feel that many people didn’t understand the ‘Simon’ inspired mechanic. So we changed it. It is now still colour based with the same bombs as a result, but now the player is in the hands of lady luck. A new colour light show will occur and land on a colour White, Green, Blue, Red, Yellow. These are to represent the player colours. If the wheel lands on a colour a bomb is dropped on that player's location. If it lands on white, no bomb is dropped.

Paranormal Snackivity - We heard from players that this level was too easy, so we decided to add in a little something to make it harder. The level now contains the same zombie mechanic from the other Halloween level “Night of the Living Bread”. Items on the table will get struck by lightning and become possessed for a short period of time! Luckily in Five Second Rule the level doesn’t reset if the items fall off! Now your well placed pathways may have a mind of their own!

Rice Ball (Mochi Balboa) Change - We changed the level mechanic and layout as they were similar to another. The level is now shaped like a hexagon and is stylised as a spiders web...SPOOKY. The level mechanic now has certain areas of the arena that will become “Haunted“, when your rice ball goes into one of these zones you are lifted into the air and will hover unless you can escape. These are great if you can bait an enemy player into the zone!

Riceball Rumble Timer Change - The rounds are now shorter in Riceball Rumble at 1 Minute 30 Seconds.

Riceball Rumble Lives Change - Riceball levels will now start the player with 3 lives, should help the rounds go a bit quicker and not get stale.

Round Count (Arcade) - The player can now choose the number of rounds they wish to do for Arcade Games (inc Riceball)

Particle Effects
We have changed some of the particle effects to be more optimal and visually clearer.

Objectives
We have changed the objectives at the top of the screen to have full opacity from the start, rather than 50% then 100% on completion. This was for users who had trouble seeing the images and also helps make it more clear what the objectives for the level are.

New Content
New Language - Traditional Chinese translation added

Arcade Mode -
Arcade Mode features Riceball Rumble and 3 NEW arcade games that you can choose from. Simply enter the arcade menu, choose how many rounds you want and click on the mode you want to play! If you’re up for anything, then you can choose “Random”, this will grab the different modes and create a playlist with how many rounds you want! All rounds are scored so you’ll have to Slam, Score, Dodge and Brawl your way to victory! All game modes are 2-4 players.

Foodball -
It’s time to get out on the pitch...urrr...Table and score some goals! You have the same abilities as in Sumo, so you can slam and charge your way through the opponents and strike the ball into the back of the “Net”. There are 3 variations of the pitch with some exciting and game changing modifiers.



Conveyor Clash -
Roll, Jump and dodge your way to be the last California Roll on the belt! Speed will increase over time so the longer you survive the harder the round will get!



Butter Brawl -
4 Knives, 1 butter and lots of toast! Who can butter the most toast in the butter brawl arena?! Toasters will rain toast from the sky and you will have to out butter your opponents to become the Butter Brawl victor.

Bug Fixes
Chocolate ice cream particle effect offset fixed
Riceball reset charge on spawn
Reduce sound levels for the gun arm sound in ‘Fry Hard’
Added the word “Hard” for the best time description
Fixed Ice Cream not actually stopping particles when not grounded.

Update!

Due to everything going on, we've had some delays and just wanted to update you on what is happening. We have the FREE Arcade and quality of life update ready to go but have to wait on a few other things to press the publish button. We're very sorry for this delay but I can give you a little look at some of the changes!

We are also part of the https://gamevention.de/ digital convention on the 27-28th with a new trailer showing off all this new stuff, so keep an eye out!

From our reviews we scores a 7/10 and the cons in those all revolved around similar issues reviewers had with the game, so we went to work trying to solve those issues (without having to rewrite lots of systems).

Here is a brief summary - A full changelog will be put out on the day of update release

Quality of Life
We have optimised alot of our meshes, shaders and effects so this should help the game run on lower end systems. (This was mostly done for the Nintendo Switch port) but to show off how much better it runs, we even managed to get the game running at 60 fps on a Google Pixel 1. So that's nice.

A few menu design tweaks for the level select, so it is more obvious how many levels and modes there are in the game from the start.



GamePlay

Difficulty -

The Brunch Club Foodbank! (7th - 30th April)

We're working hard finalising the Arcade Update coming to you all for free very soon! We are hitting some roadblocks in regard to the pandemic currently happening.

As I’m sure you are all aware, the current global situation has affected so many lives. Some people are being hit harder than others, with their places of work being closed or being advised to stay home, and their financial situation becoming increasingly uncertain. The use of foodbanks in the UK have been on the rise in recent years and have been a vital resource for many experiencing difficulty providing for themselves and their families.

As of today (7th April) until midnight on April 30th we will be running the ‘Brunch Club Foodbank Drive’ where 70% of EVERY sale of Brunch Club will go to our local Bristol-based Food Banks operated by The Trussell Trust (The UK’s largest foodbank network).

The Yogscast have a fantastic history with charity fundraising and as we are a food-based game made by a bunch of devs in Bristol, it felt right that we choose a food bank cause to help out our community and try to make a positive impact in our own small way.

If you’d like to help out and get a copy of a game you and your family can play whilst stuck inside then please consider purchasing. Remember, you can always gift it to your friends and family!

If you do not want to buy the game/ already own it but would like to aid the Trussell Trust then you can make a donation HERE. They also accept food and essential items as well as money!

To answer a question I’m sure will be asked. Why not 100%?
After discussing with Yogscast Games, we agreed that 70% is the most we can do whilst still being able to provide support to our own workers, who like many others have people that rely on them having an income. The remaining 30% ensures that we can pay freelancers and keep our own lights on in the coming months.

Arcade Update, Bug Fixes & More!



Here's a sneak peek at one of our new Arcade Mode mini games! FOODBALL!

We have been working hard on this update, we wanted to fix some issues that players and reviewers had with the game. We thought that maybe that wasn't enough, so we said "Hey, lets give them some free content too!". From that came the BRUNCH CLUB ARCADE, a new home for fan favourite Riceball Rumble but also 3 new modes, Foodball, Conveyor Clash and Butter Brawl!

We will be releasing this update shortly to coincide with our Console release, so keep an eye out on our socials

PLAY ONLINE WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

With the new Steam Play Together feature, you can play Brunch Club or any Local coop compatible game online with your friends!

Make sure you opt in to the beta via the "Account" menu in the Steam settings.

You can now invite up to 3 of your friends to play Brunch Club with you online. Even better yet, only the host needs to own the game!

All your friends need are their keyboards/controllers and to accept your Steam Play Together invite via the Friends Menu!

We have a free content update coming out next week, so now is the perfect time to jump in and compete on the leaderboards if you haven't already!

Fixes & Graphics Update

Just a quick update for you Brunch lovers! Weve fixed a handful of bugs, and made some changes to some graphics in the game:

- Updated graphics for Riceball Rumble!
- Updated level skyboxes
- Updated Toaster model
- Fixed the ability to add sauce to your completed hot dogs!
- Fixed an issue with BBQ lid
- Fixed a bug causing korean and chinese translations not to be set at startup when using steam launch options
