Meet the Designers!

Here at Thunderbox we work hard to create innovative and unusual video games, all based on fantastic board games. We're trying to do something super fresh with The Captain is Dead and our delightful Design Director, Dan (whole lotta 'D's going on there), will be on our Discord server to chat about the convergence of board and video games, as well as answer any questions you may have!

On top of that, legendary board game designer, and head honcho of The Game Crafter, Mr. JT Smith, will also be on hand to talk about how he made the original board game so freakin' entertaining in the first place.

Please joiun us on Discord for a unique insight into creating great video and board games, with these two friendly chaps!

Amazing New Album from our Soundtrack Composer, Occams Laser

The original board game of The Captain is Dead has an amazing art style, almost like an old, low-poly video game... which made it a no-brainer for us to go with the same, retro style for the digital version. The soundtrack, however, was not such an easy decision...

We were originally looking for an epic, space opera feel, reminiscent of James Horner's fantastic score for Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan, but when we first heard the cinematic synthwave sound of "Warriors of The Faith" by Occams Laser it hit us: why not echo the retro visuals with the soundtrack? After a quick listen to his (rather amazing) back catalog, we were suitably impressed, and reached out to him to see what he thought of an early version of our game. Fortunately he loved it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Occam has a new album out this week, called New Blood II. Whilst we're ever so slightly disappointed that it doesn't have the subtitle "Even Newer Blood", we've been listening to it on endless repeat all week, so he must be doing something right! And, if you're already familiar with the prequel album, you'll recognize a couple of tracks from it in The Captain is Dead.
