Since Nintendo wouldn't take my game for the Switch, I've brought The Caribbean Sail to paper instead!
"Just a card deck?" I hear you mutter with a twinge of curiosity tainted by a drop of waning disappointment. Nay! Banish those doubts and behold the infomercial!
There we are. Now that I've got your attention, here's what you can find in the box!
Deluxe Deck - 90 cards in total. Major and Minor Arcana, Jokers, and bonus cards. Minor Arcana - Coins, skulls, hearts, and swords. Major Arcana - 22 unique poker size tarot cards labeled by roman numeral. Bonuses - 2 game cards, 4 mysterious red aces, a tarot reference card, and more!
If that doesn't have you reaching for your wallet, how about a tarot cloth for divination... or just making it easier to pick up cards off of hard surfaces like your heart?
Made from the finest sail cloth I could sink my hooks into.
While supplies last, you can also get my name fancifully written on a card by yours truly! Half were gone in the first hour so I doubt this illustrious privilege will last much longer. It may even be worth something when I'm dead!
I couldn't bring the sea dragon to the game but at least he can live on in ink.
Thank you for enduring the written medium and supporting the physical medium.
Fair winds to you all lads! - The Captain
The Deck of Sailors
Happy Seventh Anniversary to The Caribbean Sail!
After years of being restrained to only the darkest corners of taverns, those tarot cards are coming to the real world along with a full deck of playing cards styled in the black and white pixels of The Caribbean Sail!
You could read fortunes... or you could play a game of gin rummy, poker, bull***t, scopa, or The Hunt for Davy Jones! -and by Neptune, why stop there? Invent your own card games with the custom suits!
Coins
Swords
Hearts
Skulls
You've never seen a card deck like this and you likely never will again. These won't be none of your cabin boys flat sticky flimsy paper cards neither, nay, I'm having them printed on the air cushioned M32* linen stock that dreams are made from which cardistry experts and magicians would be proud to wield.
Talk like a pirate day 2017 was the initial release date of these piratey pixels and I never thought that I'd still be passionate about making new artwork or pushing content updates all this time later but you keep me motivated.
Thank you kindly for all your support over the years and bringing my dreams to life time and time again. Raise a drink to yourselves lads as we look forward to another year of Caribbean Sailing! - The Captain, Evan Massie
*M32 stock will be stretch goal dependent as minimum prints start at 1,000 decks.
Semper Sargasso - V1.8.2
SARGASSO SPOTTED!
A new ocean event in Fantasy and Purist mode has reared its algae bedraggled head to look in your direction like an obnoxious in-law at your Christmas dinner.
A gentle slimy hug from the ocean
When sailing the waters of the Atlantic, there is now a small chance to cross a Sargasso belt. These floaty green pools of seaweed, algae, and sargassum will slow your ship by 30% while offering a new fishing opportunity; EELS!
Ever ate an eel? Me neither but these ones won't give you electric feels. Throw em to the crew and they'll slurp them down like spaghetti.
Patch Logbook
New Feature + Atlantic Sargasso Sea event + Eel fish type + Net eels
Bug Fixes - Launch logo centered on all screen sizes - Inventory deletion / duplication bug resolved
This update would not have happened without Kofi supporters. Join the crew if you'd like to see another feature update someday.
Fair winds to you all lads! - Evan, Captain of Victorian Clambake
Achievement Fix
The achievements have been fixed.
Windows 11 improved support / Mac losing support
This post will be dryer than your mouth after three days at sea without water.
Due to recent Windows 11 incompatibilities, I ran The Caribbean Sail through GameMaker 2 and exported it. This was a painfully difficult process that involved resolving over 48,000 errors.
Changes
+ Version number is now 1.8 + Exported with GM2
[Notice]
If you were experiencing crashes on Windows 11 before and this resolved them, please let me know. If you are experiencing any crashes now that you weren't before, please let me know also. I will not sell defective products.
Regarding Mac
The game was unfortunately never ported to Mac 64-bit and unfortunately I cannot afford a Mac at this time to export with and as Steam is fully discontinuing support for 32-bit Mac applications, I will not be supporting Mac users for now. If you would like to help potentially bring back Mac support then donations on my Ko-Fi will go towards licensing fees, developer fees, and development hardware: https://ko-fi.com/victorianclambake#

[ENDED] New Merch Store!
You know what every good pirate needs? Cannons.
[The Merch store is no longer live - Event ended]
Unfortunately those are hard to make, ship, or sell online so I've created the next best thing: A limited time merch store!
Hosted by shopify and printed by printful (not painstakingly handcrafted as usual) all high enough quality for this Captain's standards!
The desk pad is my personal favorite. There's no branding which makes it versatile! Use it as a giant mouse pad, a game mat to make cards easier to pick up (Try my card game on it), make your coworkers jealous, organize your crew rations on it, make it into a rum coaster for your table, roll it up and smack away seagulls, wrap yourself in it for warmth as the cruel winds blow down from the north- the possibilities are endless!
My second favorite piece is the Joyless Roger stealth shirt! Black printed on black is obviously the coolest possible cooler combination and it doesn't come cooler than this. The subtle design without branding makes it a flexible base piece for any everyday pirate looking to show their true colors.
On limited quantities
There's a few other items on the store but all are currently limited to only 10 units available in total per size, per item, shipping in USA only. I don't plan on staying in the merch business forever at this time so fetch yer swag and toss a few doubloons my way because this whole ship will sink in January 2024.
If things go well I may replenish stock in December, create more designs, more products, or other things... like a sheet of Caribbean Sail themed stickers. I'm testing new waters so we'll see where they take us!
That's all well and good Captain but where's our next game?
Since you asked and it no longer feels like I'm cornering you to talk about my endless passion projects apropos of nothing; I went an extra nautical mile as Captain Blacksword is intended to be an NES style arcade game and built my own tabletop arcade machine. I'm working on an arcade compatible demo to run that will be downloadable on my Kofi page for the Clambake Crew members.
Captain Blacksword has been in a toybox phase for longer than you've been ignoring the barnacles on your hull and as of today is now on course for completion. Feature creep has bogged things down long enough and I'm focused on creating levels. What lies before me is an estimated 100 days of work. Not days until release, 24 hour periods of solid development. Blacksword will not release until it has achieved 10,000 wishlists even if the game is 100% complete. This ship will sail or stay in port until I figure out how to create the wind myself.
As a final announcement...
There will be one more Caribbean Sail feature.
I am legally obligated not to disclose what it will be until January 1st.
