Introducing the new trailer for Maid of Sker featuring the spine-chilling voice of Tia Kalmaru with a re-imagining of a traditional Welsh lullaby Calon Lan.
Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror, set in a remote hotel with a gory and macabre history from British folklore. At Sker Hotel we offer grotesque views, eerie forest trails, and blood-soaked beds. Be our guest but watch your step, make a sound and the Quiet Ones welcome you.
Now you've seen sound devices in use, you've seen the breathing mechanic, the sound-based AI enemies, the inventory system... now we'd like to share a few details on the save system (a common question we receive!)
Yes, you can manually save your game via our Phonographs.
We welcome you to indulge in the use of the Phonographs, a device for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. Invented by Thomas Edison, the American inventor who gave us the Electric light bulb, it transitioned into the gramophone, which led to what we still use today — the vinyl record player.
Our Phonographs offer safety, allowing you to catch your breath and save your game, listen to the recordings and unlock the mysteries lurking within the Sker Hotel.
Upgrade your stay by adding the game to your Steam Wishlist!
“Maid of Sker is an excellent entry into the survival horror genre giving a nice balance between running or hiding from enemies and the puzzles or objectives around the hotel”
“A sharp, smartly written interactive thriller, with not a single one-dimensional character in sight, The Complex is (despite its theme) a joy to experience.”
“Wales Interactive has earned itself a reputation for being the bar to be measured by in the interactive movie genre, and I can’t wait to see where they go with it next.”
“Once The Complex enters full-on thriller mode, this compelling choice-driven tale of a trapped scientist facing terrorists and moral decisions doesn’t let up and even provides enough prompting and interesting options to weather multiple plays.”
We hope you enjoy The Complex and Maid of Sker! Feel free to comment or reach out to us with any of the links below.
Just a quick update to let you know that Unity have now fixed an issue where some high-refresh monitor (120hz, 240hz etc) are experiencing flickering or stuttering. This is happening because of a bug in the game engine - Unity - which is not recognizing the refresh rate and is trying to force the refresh at what your Windows settings are telling it.
Thank you all for your patience on this one!
New fix for crashes (AMD laptops) We also have a new fix for black screens and game crashes, specifically on AMD laptops...
Go to Device Manager (you can use Run and type devmgmt.msc or just search for Device Manager) Go to Display Adapters Right-click on the one that is NOT your AMD adapter, and choose 'disable device'
Additional notes If your game is crashing, it is likely your version of Windows doesn't have the codecs to play the video files. Please see this thread to fix this.
Just a quick update here regarding Korean subtitles (and other languages)
We recognize that the subtitles across a few languages were poorly done and in no way was up to our usual standard of localization. We hired a new company to perform this task and they underdelivered. The languages most affected was Korean, and to a much lesser extent, German and Russian. In a recent patch, we revised the German subtitles.
Revised Korean
Thanks to this amazing community, we have enlisted the help of Marshall to correct this. Marshall also helped with Late Shift too!
Note: Because we wanted to get this fix out ASAP, this is a first revision of the subtitles and minor tweaks may be needed in a smaller patch this week. We will continue to monitor this and update accordingly.
What's next?
We are working with our Russian translator to update any minor mistakes that are currently in the game.
We want to thank you for your continued support and please feel free to reach out to us here.
Just a quick update here regarding an issue that some people are experiencing.
We have found that players who are using a high-refresh monitor (120hz, 240hz etc) are experiencing some flickering or stuttering. This is happening because of a bug in the game engine - Unity - which is not recognizing the refresh rate and is trying to force the refresh at what your Windows settings are telling it.
Temporary Fix
We have released a patch that includes an option in the settings which allows you to choose the refresh rate. Please change this to the refresh rate of your monitor. Some users will also find going into Windowed mode helps.
Note: The bug also doesn't allow the engine to save this new option, so you will have to do this every time.
What's next?
We are working on a more permanent solution where the game automatically recognizes and changes this setting. We have also raised this issue with Unity.
Additional notes
If your game is crashing, it is likely your version of Windows doesn't have the codecs to play the video files. Please see this thread to fix this.
Finally, we are addressing the known issues for poor localisation across several languages including Korean, German and more. Expect an update tomorrow 03/04.

After a major bio-weapon attack on London, two scientists find themselves in a locked-down laboratory with time, and air, running out. With choose-your-own-path style gameplay, your actions and your relationship with other characters will lead you to one of eight suspenseful endings.
The Story
Having treated the victims of a chemical attack in the totalitarian state of Kindar, Dr Amy Tenant is a leader in the advancement of Nanocell Technology. Now, in London, news breaks of a blood-vomiting civilian whose identity is far from coincidental. Reunited with an old friend, Amy is trapped in an impenetrable HQ of laboratories—a womb of scientific advancement with a perilous secret.
Cast & Crew
The Complex is written by Lynn Renee Maxcy, part of the Emmy award-winning writing team from The Handmaid’s Tale. The interactive movie stars Michelle Mylett (Letterkenny, Bad Blood), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones, The Witch) and Al Weaver (Grantchester). Featuring guest acting performance by Twitch streamer and former Xbox UK presenter, Leah Viathan.
Relationship Tracking
Throughout the game you will interact with characters and — depending on your choices — will either strengthen or weaken your relationship. The relationship scores are calculated from the start right through to the very end and will affect certain scenarios as well as having major consequences in the concluding scenes.
Personality Tracking
For every decision you make, every interaction, your character’s personality is being tracked. At the end of each playthrough, you are rewarded with a Personality Score and a breakdown to see how you played the game. Discover the five basic dimensions of a personality; openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. Which of those will your character play?
