Here's some info regarding the nature of the co-op:
Q: Why is this local co-op only?
A: This was a crazy feature we added by toying around with the code which started out as something that the programmers did for fun. An online mode would require reprogramming an important part of the game and is not feasible. This isn't something that was meant to be a feature of the game.
Q: Will you ever add online?
A: No. This would require remaking a substantial part of the game's code. Local coop is much more simple.
Q: How does this affect the game's story / campaign / game mechanics?
A: The game wasn't designed or balanced with co-op in mind, so many things about the coop are just things that needed to be done in a specific way in order not to break the game entirely:
Player 1 still controls the main camera.
Other players get to play with the character that player 1 chooses.
Player 1 chooses when you can aim down (due to the camera change)
Etc.
There are several obvious limitations in the co-op's implementation (because the game was created strictly as a single-player experience), however the 4 player co-op is hilarious and extremely fun.
Deadly Tower of Monsters 4 Player COOP Beta!
Deadly Tower of Monsters 4 Player COOP Beta!
Hello everyone! Here at ACE Team we're always happy to come up with surprises and cool updates for our titles. Our latest crazy creation is adding 4 player local coop for The Deadly Tower of Monsters! :O
Given the complexity of this new update, we are first delivering the content as a Beta build, available to anyone who owns the game. Once the build has been found to be stable, we will pass it on to the "main branch" as part of the full game. The Beta build can easily be accessed by doing the following:
1) Select the game on Steam, right click and choose 'Properties'.
2) Go to the 'Betas' tab
3) Select the Beta from the Drop down list.
4) We recommend verifying the integrity of game cache after selecting the Beta, to make sure you download that branch. ('Local Files' tab -> 'Verify integrity of game cache').
*When launching the Beta, the game should appear as v1.04
**If you want to return to the regular branch, just choose 'None' in the 'Betas' tab

Deadly Tower 1.03 update
- Fixed bug where teleportation screen was freezing in some systems. ***
- Fixed performance issue for systems using NvOptimus (which have Intel and Nvidia cards in the same computer).
- Added security system to avoid rare Boss Octopus non-progression.
- Some minor fixes to Russian localization.
*** Note: The teleportation freeze issue was apparently happening mostly on machines under the minimum specs, so we had to get our hands on new hardware to be able to reproduce and find the problem. The issue was resolved on our new test machine that was experiencing the reported issue.
Deadly Tower 1.02 update
Very small update fixes sound ducking when subtitles are turned off. (Yesterday's patch allowed for turning subtitles off, but when the option was selected, the dialogue would not lower the game's volume properly. This was fixed now).
Deadly Tower 1.01 update
Small update for the game: The title now allows people to disable subtitles for the director in the Sound Menu.
34% discount from 1/19 - 2/2 -- Problems fixed; discount is active again!
Update update:
And we've heard confirmation from Valve that the issue is fixed!
Update:
As people have noted, this is a store-wide issue, so you can rest assured that Valve is working to fix it as soon as possible. I'll leave this announcement up as reminder of the discount in the mean time.
Original post:
As some of you may have noticed, the 34% discount that should be running from now until 2/2 has been disappearing and reappearing from the site.
We're currently working with our Steam reps to resolve this, so please check back again soon if you didn't get a chance to buy it at discount yet.
We'll update here once we can confirm the problem is fixed.
