HOTFIX #1
NOTE:Due to the size of this update your save file may become corrupted, or you may see an error message after updating saying missing executable file, If this is a problem you must uninstall and reinstall the game. My deepest apologies. Please feel free to reach out to me: CONTACT.
Greetings fellow gamers,
Ugh, this was an annoying update. Not the update itself, but getting the update uploaded to the Steam client. I recently changed to a new PC and have been slowly migrating files and prepping what needs prepping for game updates. The update was completed on January 29th, but I haven't been able to upload it until today. My deepest apologies to any and all who were looking forward to this update.
Changelog:
Removed ability to pick up items. This mechanic was neat, but ultimately unnecessary. It would cause players to get stuck on fallen objects. I plan to implement a new mechanic that allows the player to examine items without being able to throw them or drop them on the floor.
Changed bits of text here and there.
Corrected a few grammatical errors.
Removed the pool table from the basement. Without the pick up object mechanic it was deemed unnecessary.
Removed October 7th, 2016 loading screen when going to sleep during the corrupt PC scene. I hope this fixes the issue.
Fixed an issue where choosing the silent option while talking to Jelly during the corrupt PC scene would cause the phone icon to become stuck on the screen.
Several other minor changes here and there.
As always thank you all for playing my game!
Adam
Thanks & Issues
Greetings fellow gamers,
First let me say thank you all for your interest in my game! You're all great and I'm thrilled others have the opportunity to finally play something I have worked so hard on for so long. With that said it is time to address the elephant in the room.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY WITH ANY ISSUES
A few issues have come up since launch. Let me first say I thoroughly tested the game from start to finish in the weeks before launch, and I had a team of beta testers helping me for months. Unfortunately issues will always arise at launch.
GETTING STUCK ON OBJECTS
Don't you just hate when you drop a bag of ice at home on the floor and then you can't seem to walk around it? Oh my gosh I hate when I do that! In all seriousness I have decided I'm going to remove the object pick up mechanic from the game which will solve this annoying little problem. In the meantime to avoid getting struck try not to drop objects on the ground in your walking path.
STUCK ON LOADING SCREEN OCTOBER 7th, 2016
This is a weird one for me, because I personally never experienced it in any of my play throughs, but apparently it is real and a problem. I will be dedicating my time to solving this mystery ASAP.
PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION
The games is a bit of a system hog due to the imminence amount of detailed objects in the game. I will be addressing this over time.
WHEN IS PART TWO COMING?
How should I know? Just kidding, but seriously I have no idea. These things take time and I need to focus on fixing what needs fixing with part one first and foremost. I do have an outline in the works for Part Two and will be working on it soon.
Thank you all! -Adam
Release Build Uploaded!!!
Greetings fellow gamers,
I'm pleased to announce the official release build has just been uploaded, and now I can focus on contacting content creators for the next 2 weeks before launch. I already have a laundry list of content creators that fit the genre for this game that I am also a fan of, but I am open to any content creators who wish to contact me via the contact form on my official website.
I've played the The Detective Chapters: Part One extensively myself from start to finish and this latest build is the most polished I've played yet. I will play it one more time before official launch just to catch any last minute issues, but thus far it feels ready.
I would be lying if I said I'm not nervous, this is of course the most complex game I've developed to date, so anxiety ensues before launch. I have received a humbling amount of positive feedback from beta testers and I can only hope that will resonate with players as well.
I feel this version is as polished as I can get it for now. Of course with any game I'm sure SOMETHING will come up that requires my attention and fixes will quickly follow.
Thanks everyone! -Adam
New Demo Live
Greetings fellow gamers,
I've just uploaded a new demo to the store page. It begins at a crucial turning point in the story rather than the beginning of the game like the previous demo. Please check it out.
Thanks! Adam
The Detective Chapters: Part One Official Launch Date Announcement
GREETINGS FELLOW GAMERS
It’s been an interesting few months. I officially completed development of TDC:P1 and began the beta testing phase. With nearly 30 beta testers onboard I’ve received tons of helpful bug reports and feedback. I’m so grateful for all the awesome beta testers! You guys rock!
Originally I had the game slated for a Fall 2020 release, but with much hesitation and deliberation I’ve decided that just isn’t an option. I hate to postpone the release any further, but at this point I’ve come up with a list of reasons why it needs to be.
REASON 1: It’s just not ready.
The game still needs a few more coats of polish before I will feel comfortable releasing it. Although my testers have told me it’s pretty damn polished already for a game in its first round of testing there are still plenty of things that need tweaking, weather it be from a players perspective or my own, I just need to work on it a little longer.
REASON 2: The timing isn’t right.
They say timing is everything, and in the world of indie games truer words were never spoken. I’ve done a boatload of research on the subject to pinpoint the best time of the year to release an indie and all signs point to January/February. That’s right, the coldest, most dreadful months of the year are actually the best months for indies, some of the most successful indie games of all time were released during these months and here is why.
November/December is a terrible time to release an indie, and the reason is most of the highly anticipated AAA games come out during this time to capitalize on the holiday selling season. Nobody wants to compete with the hottest AAA games.
Another prominent reason is people have pretty much spent all their money by January, but may still be looking to play a new game. This is where indies thrive. As most indies are priced at $30 or less it only makes sense that they sell better during this time while AAA are priced at $60 plus.
The competition is light this time of year, I released my first game Barter Empire on Steam in February, 2015 and it did modestly well, selling nearly 1000 copies in the first 24 hours. So the early in the year notion is already proven for me.
REASON 3: It’s my birthday!
Okay, this wasn’t a deciding factor, but my birthday falls on the same day as the release. What better gift to myself than the launch of my game?
REASON 4: More hype.
Hype is an important factor to maximize the most sales. Look at Cyberpunk 2077, the game was first announced 7 years ago… 7 FREAKING YEARS AGO!!! You don’t get much more time than that to create hype, and it is arguably the most talked about game of the year. It’s been delayed several times and for good reason. Of course my game will never achieve that level of hype, but with more time I can focus on PR.
OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE: January 22, 2021.
So there it is. A January 22, 2021 release may not make sense at first, but it does once it is broken down.
Thanks to everyone who has followed the progress so far and wishlisted the game. Now it’s time to get back to work.

The Steam Game Festival Demo Build
Greetings fellow gamers,
I'm excited to announce that I will be participating in the upcoming Steam Game Festival! A demo build of The Detective Chapters will be available for all to experience and add to their wish lists if they choose. I plan to host a live chat and dev play during the event.
This will be the first major event for The Detective Chapters and I hope it brings some real exposure and feedback to the project. After 4 long years it will be nice to finally have someone other than myself experience it, even if it is just a short demo.
The game itself is coming along nicely. I expect it will be complete in the next month or so barring any unforeseen setbacks, and then it will go into beta testing. The plan is for a fall 2020 official release.
