The Jaws of Oblivion are open!

Mehrunes Dagon's invasion of Tamriel has begun! Take up arms with Martin Septim and the Blades or join the invading Daedra and the Order of the Mythic Dawn in our latest card pack expansion featuring:

  • 82 new collectible cards.
  • The new Invade mechanic: summon and upgrade Oblivion Gates, and use them to enhance your Daedra forces. More details about Invade are available in our article introducing the mechanic here.
  • A brand new playmat.
  • Six new musical tracks written specifically for The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
  • A new Main Menu background.
  • 14 new titles.
  • 18 new quests.
  • Three new card backs.

Arena Changes

Jaws of Oblivion cards appear at 4x frequency and Moons of Elsweyr cards appear at 2x frequency.

At the start of each Arena run, the options presented for which attributes to play will include:
o One Invasion-aligned option: Battlemage, Crusader, Mage, or Guildsworn
o One Tamriel-aligned option: Monk, Scout, Spellsword, or Empire
o One option at random from all 20 dual-color and tri-color combinations

Moon Gate, Frazzled Alfiq, Rebellion General, Smash and Grab, and Old Salty's Assault have been curated out of Arena.

We’ve made several changes to how ranking works in Versus Arena, which will now function more like the current Versus Ladder. An article containing more information about these changes can be found here.

Event Features

  • Players can now import pre-existing decks into Events. Simply copy your deck code into your clipboard and then enter the deck creation screen of the event. You will be prompted to import your deck and any disallowed cards will automatically be removed from the event deck, keeping your actual deck intact.
  • Event entry can now be directly purchased with Gold.

Animation, Visual and Audio Effects

August 2019 Monthly Reward Card: Old Salty's Assault

As we approach the end of the ranked play season, it’s time to reveal this month’s reward card - and if you’re a fan of Mudcrabs, we’ve got just the card for you. Introducing Old Salty’s Assault!

Old Salty’s Assault is a five-cost action that does one thing and does it well: summon Mudcrabs! It’s hard to analyze this card without looking at all the Mudcrabs currently available in the Legends card pool, so let’s take a look:

While these cards all have relatively low power by themselves, playing them all at the same time, while thinning your deck by three, is a big deal. In addition to 6/5 of total stats for five magicka, you’re also getting the Mudcrab Merchant’s potentially valuable effect plus Mudcrab Anklesnapper will even scuttle across the board to deal a quick point of damage to your opponent.

...but we can’t forget about our honorary Mudcrab: Reflective Automaton! For those dedicated to getting maximum value from Old Salty’s Assault, you can include the 2-cost 2/3 from the Return to Clockwork City expansion that has all creature types. This significantly increases the Assault’s power level; now the card will thin your deck by four cards and summon a total of 8/8 in stats! Additionally, with all these cards being Neutral, you can go for this strategy in any class in the game or pair it with additional Neutral supports like Dwarven Dynamo to turn your crabs into threats.

No matter which class you’ll be summoning Mudcrabs in (and I personally want to ring out Mages Guild Recruit on turn one so I can ring out Old Salty’s Assault on turn two), make sure you head into the ranked ladder today to earn your copies! As with all our monthly reward cards, reaching rank 9 in our ranked ladder by the end of the month will award you one copy, rank 5 will earn you the second and if you finish rank 1 or higher you’ll get a full playset. In addition, if you’re able to finish in the top 1,000 Legend ranks, your playset will be premium!

The Elder Scrolls: Legends 2.12.1 Hotfix

The latest version of The Elder Scrolls: Legends is live! This release brings gameplay and animation fixes for Ward and card draw respectively, as well as a fix for Blackwood Distiller!

Animation, Visual and Audio Effects

  • Wax and Wane animations have been tightened up and the timing between animations has been sped up.
  • The opponent’s mulligan card draw animation is now faster.
  • The player’s card draw animation is now faster.

Gameplay

  • Sentinel Battlemace and Covenant Masterpiece will no longer reapply their Wards to creatures if Skilled Blacksmith was played, killed, or silenced after the Ward broke.
  • While a friendly Skooma Underboss is in play, Blackwood Distiller's Pilfer ability will now trigger if it dies while Slaying.

General

  • Android performance issues relating to the Deck Builder and the discard pile have been addressed.
  • Fixed an issue on iOS, after a fresh install, that would sometimes cause the pack opening tutorial to have missing card back textures.

Moons of Elsweyr Developer Diary - Creating Consume

When designing Moons of Elsweyr, we wanted to portray the battle between the Khajiit and the forces invading their land. We spread the Khajiit (and consequently Pilfer) out among all attributes and we wanted a mechanic that would represent Euraxia Tharn’s conquering army to contrast with that. One of the identifying features of this army was its use of necromancy, so we figured that was a potential avenue for us to explore.

We already had some necromancer and resurrection-based cards but they were all in Endurance. Our biggest challenge was to find a way to portray these characters and spells in other attributes without making Endurance give away part of its identity.

Our first attempt at a necromancy mechanic was called Soulbound - a keyword that resurrected the creature as a 1/1 upon dying (for example, a 3/3 Lethal creature with Soulbound would die and come back as a 1/1 Lethal). Necromancy was being portrayed as creatures being resurrected rather than the necromancers themselves, meaning any attribute could have a necromancy-flavored card.

After playing with those, we decided they created game states that were more repetitive than we wanted. Soulbound got the point across, but having to kill creatures multiple times was exhausting, especially since they often relied on Summon and Last Gasp effects for the ability to make sense. We still thought the mechanic had potential but wasn’t quite there yet, so we decided to explore other alternatives. One of the original Soulbound cards survived this process, however, and ended up being released in Moons of Elsweyr with the name of Wandering Skeleton.

Our next attempt was inspired by ESO’s necromancer skills that consume corpses. Eventually, this mechanic evolved into the Consume ability we have today, which was different enough from resurrection that we felt safe putting it in all attributes without taking anything away from Endurance’s attribute identity:

Consume: Remove a card in your discard pile from the game to get an effect.

Since the condition of having a creature in the discard pile (all Consume cards in Moons of Elsweyr consume creatures) happened naturally in most games, we felt that Consume cards could see play in many different builds. However, we also wanted to make sure players could play a Consume-focused deck if they wanted to. For that, we created the Imbued creatures, or as we called them, “Consumables” - creatures with fair stats that gave you bonuses if they’re Consumed.

Each attribute has one with a characteristic keyword and we included two Neutral ones as well to make sure every attribute combination could have enough cards for a Consume shell. On top of that, cards like Seeker of the Black Arts and Discerning Thief were also included to give the mechanic some new angles.

From a gameplay standpoint, we were happy with how Consume turned out - the mechanic itself encouraged trading and playing to the board, which is a style that we generally want to incentivize. We hope you liked playing with Consume as much as we did!

- Paulo Vitor
