The Eldritch Zookeeper

The 'Bigger Zoos' Update!

Hello! I'm Matt, I'm the lead developer and... well, I guess the only developer on The Eldritch Zookeeper. It's time to share an update on how things with the game have been progressing over the last while!

If you're new to The Eldritch Zookeeper, here's what you need to know:

  • It's a game about managing a zoo, but the zoo is full of monsters.
  • The game's not quite ready for release yet, but I'm working hard on it!
  • It's going to be really fun.

So what's been going on the last six months of development? I've made a development update video that you can watch right now! It's here:

For those who don't like videos, here's the gist: I've been down in the slimy guts of the game's internals. It's greasy down there, but sometimes you've got to get your hands dirty.

There is now a proper Saving and Loading System in the game and this is a Big Deal™ - in-progress zoos can be returned to at a later point! You know, like, in video games.

Because I can easily load previously created zoos, I've been able to work on making sure that the game can be played well with lots of visitors and lots of monsters in it. I'm still working on the performance side of things, but it's coming along!

There's new zoo walls, or rather, fences around the perimeter! They're in the same cast-iron style as the zoo gate, and I think zoos look a lot prettier as a result.

A brand-new camera system! Smooth zooming, rotating, all the good stuff. Good game cameras aren't always the easiest thing to

Feeding troughs! I like adding new things to the game that the player can actually build, and feeding troughs are a useful addition to monster enclosures. They keep the meat or the cosmic ooze (you know, whatever a monster might be hungry for) organised, because monsters might kick the food out of their pen. These monsters aren't the most intelligent things, but I wouldn't say that near them. I don't know what language they speak, and I don't know if they can read minds or not. What I do know is, they have a lot of teeth.

I'm excited to have returned from the aforementioned greasy-guts of the game, and back to creating new content. Exciting! If you haven't already, be sure to wishlist the game right here on Steam, and subscribe to the youtube channel (with Bell Button selected and all) to keep up-to-date with exciting development news!
