The Evil Farming Game: Replanted

Moving Forward

Upon taking a lookback at the game as it stands right now, on my hard drive, and my initial plans for the game, and the plans I have now. I came to a conclusion.

This game was not designed to be developed like this.
For the past 2ish years, I've been balancing school with game development, and recently I've also been tackling other passion projects that are simply more fulfilling, easier, and of higher quality for me.
But that in no way means that I want to stop developing REPLANTED.
It just means that I need to change how I'm developing it.

As of now, REPLANTED has been put on an indefinite delay, until both it, and REPLANTED Part II are ready for release within the same year.
The effects of this delay will be huge, it's likely that REPLANTED will be put 2 years off from it's current planned release date, but it's what's right. If you didn't already know this, REPLANTED is part 1 of a two part 2 duology. It was always meant to complement another game, which will be more unique, linear, and in my opinion, better. I realized that if I were to continue working on replanted like the way I had been, there would've easily been a 2-3 year wait in-between the parts, which I did not want to happen.
I want to be more eased out when working on the games, and I don't want to rush out either of the games (which was probably going to happen if I were to continue working on the games with the mindset of "the release date should've been a year ago, finish this immediately." and "don't leave people waiting too long."). REPLANTED as it stands, was going to be a little rushed if it came out when I wanted it to come out, so the delay will hopefully give me more time to work on it, and really create the REPLANTED that I want you all to see, instead of the one you were going to get, on the topic of Part II, REPLANTED Part II was planned from the beginning, but design work only really began in 2022, and I haven't spent much time at all working on the game as an actual tangible exe.

I will also be taking a step back from marketing the game like normal.
This means I won't be saying anything about it until the games are essentially almost finished. This is mainly because I don't want to be advertising games that won't be out for a while. As it stands, look at it this way: If I'm not dead, and this page doesn't say the game is cancelled, the game is being worked on. If I'm dead, or the page says the game is cancelled, the game is cancelled. But I doubt that second one will happen before release.

TL;DR: REPLANTED will still release, but it's being delayed an unknown amount of time to release next to REPLANTED Part II, which was planned the entire time, but only began actual development work recently. It's not cancelled, it'll be out when it's out. Don't expect any more news until then.

Teaser Trailer Release!

So, What's Happening?; Final Update of 2022.

Trailer + Release Date News

The original trailer for this game was completed in July, and was supposed to release a week or two before the release date of the game.

This is still the plan, but due to the fact that making a video game takes longer than I plan, that trailer will not be the ONLY trailer to release for the game. I will hopefully put together a smaller, more teaser-y trailer with unseen-ish gameplay, and release it before the end of the year.
In terms of the release date, it's very clearly not going to come out before 2023, and I will say right now: the release date for the game will not be announced until, at the very least, the exact month it releases. And as of now until then, assume the game will release in 2050, as that is the only accurate release window for the game.

Website + Actual Game News

There is also some news that I have yet to announce on steam!
I rebuilt from scratch, the entire website for the game, https://replanted.whistleblowerstudios.com/ is now up, operational, and has a bunch of news that I have yet to publish anywhere else.
The game itself is also being worked on, as it always has been, what I've been working on mostly is the Police mechanic, that I detailed a while ago. It's about finished, with the exception of the questioning/interrogation mechanics, I still need to write all 11 days worth of dialogue for those parts, after that's all done, I'll add the rest of the NPCs that need to be added, then a bunch of secrets and stuff. The farming mechanic also will have a slight rework, and I'll get to that soon.
Since last time, I also built the maps/levels for every dream currently ingame.

New Teaser

I don't want to leave you all with nothing in terms of images, so here's something you'll see ingame (if you're good at finding secrets, that is.)

Progress Update: April 11th, 2022.

Last update was in October, why was that? Because I was working on a prologue for the game, near halfway through the development, I realized how much of a spoiler it was for the actual game, and I couldn't release it. The problem is that I wanted the game to be a surprise, so it was never announced. This, of course, led to a drought of updates, so I wanted to make up for that by having a full news post that goes in-depth into the actual game and it's mechanics.

As the days go by...

I did some polling on my discord to finetune some mechanics in the game. And one of the ones I did a poll on was time. A 43-6 vote decided on there being 10 days with unique interactions with NPCs (with each day being 2 hours, aside from sleeping). This segues nicely into our next topic, the sleeping mechanic.

The game will allow you to go to sleep (and dream) whenever nightfall comes, otherwise, you wont be tired! For convenience, the script is listed here (with a placeholder for the tp to dream)

This also brings me to the dreaming mechanic, and for that I'd like you, the steam community, to help. How do you think dreams should be selected? Let me explain.

The game has multiple unique dreams, but exactly how they'll be selected (to be shown to you) is still up for decision.
Should they be selected based on what night it is? Or on how many dreams you've already dreamt?
Having the dream based on the current night would make some dreams inaccessible if you miss them, but also make it easier to understand. Having the dream based on the amount of times you've slept would make no dream inaccessible, but may be a bit more confusing for some players.
Again, I leave it up to you to help me decide on what it should be.

That's enough about sleep before I put you to sleep. Lets talk police. The police in this game are controlled partially by RNG. If you are being suspicious to other NPCs in the game, people will notice, become too suspicious, and the police will start coming after you. Everyday at midnight, an hour between 1:00 and 24:00 will be selected, upon that hour, your home will be searched, if you are in your house? You'll be taken in for questioning. If you've already lied about your wife's location, then make sure not to mess up that lie, because the police are smart, and know to question other people. And those people sure aren't liars.
And what was that about your house being searched? Well don't worry about it. Just make sure to hide your wife in the good harder to find spots, because the more suspicious you are, the more likely they are to check every crevasse of your house. I don't want to give away too much, because I want it to be a challenge, the police aren't idiots, and have some tricks up their sleeves as well.

That's all for now. Good luck future murderers!
-Jeremy.

Progress Update: 10/14/21

So, what has been going on?

Well, since I know that a lot of you do not use the discord, i've decided to do a little progress update! There's a a lot of news to cover, so I've put it all here, with some exclusive stuff aswell!

The Demo

As you on the discord know, the demo has been cancelled, there are various reasons, but the jest of it was that it would represent the game in an unfinished buggy state, and would be a way too big chunk of the game. Hopefully you will see what the game is really like, when it releases.

The DLC

This is exciting, I've just announced two brand new, fully fledged CAMPAIGNS!, while of course, there's more info on the discord, I'm able to announce the first DLC pack: The Evil Farming Game Replanted: a Cool Cop Adventure in The Big City!

I'll launch the store page when I have screenshots.

Release Date

What many of you would like to know is the release date, when I set a release date, I set expectations for myself, and I have not met the expectations for a specific date, I say October 2021 because I can assume that's when the game will release. But I don't say a day, because I don't know when the game will exactly release. It could release in December! But I assume October, so I'll say October. So we will see, exactly when the game will release.

Developer Commentary

I plan to do a live streamed Developer Commentary on the day of the game's release, so people can see the game being played minutes before the game is released. It wont have too many secrets and spoilers, and it'll just be a simple high score run.

Ports, Soundtracks, Modding, and Demos!

What have I and the contributers been doing?

As of now, we're in alpha testing, I'm hoping i can get a demo out by the end of the month. But that's not all, look at this!

Mac Shit, Linux Shit

As it's going right now, the game is very well into being ported to OSX (11.00 and above do not support this type of game). But for a linux port, i'm currently looking into SteamOS, but no promises.

Modding

This is where it gets interesting, the entire game will be released along with a modders kit, what is in this modders kit you ask? Every file and asset in the game. Meaning anybody with RPG Maker MV can edit and mod the game to their desires. This is exciting because anybody can translate it, or make their own fangame using this game's mechanics!

Soundtrack?

As of now, the soundtrack will be distributed via steam, with a release in October, along with the game.

Holy Shit.

HAHAHA FUCK YEAH

Incase you could'nt tell. We're fucking here. We made it.

If you like this game in it's current state, you'll love the shit on the discord.

As of right now, my current goal is to grow the community a bit so the demo will make an even bigger splash.

We are in alpha testing, and shit is going well. Wanna see more of that? Join the discord.

Here's to more,
Jeremy.
