Pre-Orders Live, Mac version confirmed

Good news everyone! I just played the Mac version of The Final Station and it works like a charm.

I tested it on a Retina MacBook Pro 15", an older 13" MacBook Pro with integrated graphics and a 12" MacBook, all running El Capitain. Let's just say if you play games on the 12" fanless MacBook you're going to have a baaad time. It overheats when playing games.

So it'll work on most latest and last generation Mac hardware.

Just keep in mind that the Mac version won't have Steam-features as we don't have enough time to properly test those. Those will come post-launch. Same for Linux -- we can't properly test it in just a few days, and need to integrate Localization before launch. Just setting expectations here!

That said, the pre-orders are live and kicking! With the way the discounts work, you can get the Collector's Edition for under the retail price of the normal game. That's a sweet deal, considering it has the highly immersive and atmospheric OST, and a cool artbook.

Localization into 7 languages & Mac/Linux

Hi everyone! It's 1 week before launch, and we're about to send out review & media keys to everyone. Exciting! I've got some updates to share with everyone leading up to launch:

Localization!

We're localizing The Final Station into 7 languages aside from English. Russian is already done and in the game, and the rest will be added right before launch. Here's the full list:

  • English
  • Russian
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Portugese-BR
  • Italian
  • Polish

We've had tremendous support from local communities with games like Punch Club, and considering that The Final Station is actually a story driven game (we haven't talked about that much, so let's keep it a surprise!) with over 7k words of text, it makes sense to localize.

Mac & Linux

These will definitely happen post-launch. We'll test out how the current build works on Macs, and maaaybe launch that one sooner. The issue is that we don't have achievements or anything like that integrated into non-PC builds. It'd suck to launch without these. So this is happening, the question is when.

Hang tight, just a few more days left )

PAXWest: exclusive swag, choo choo!

Are you going to PAXWest? We'll be there showing The Final Station and celebrating its launch.

And what better way to celebrate than with swag? We'll be giving away tons of exclusive wooden train whistles branded with The Final Station's logo. The goal is to have thousands of people walking around with them going "CHOO CHOO". It won't be annoying at all :D

You literally can't miss our booth, it's orange. Very very orange. It'll be next to the Indie Megabooth.

Stop by, say hi!

106 years later: get hyped for a new trailer

The Final Station is just 2 weeks away! We're almost done with the gold master, it's just a matter of doing a ton of playtests and tweaking minor things.

It'll take about 5-6 hours to beat the full game, and while we haven't talked much about the story at all -- the amount of dialogue in the game is on the higher end. Those who want to experience the story will spend more time scavenging through the abandoned stations, finding clues and bits of story that make up the full picture.

To get your hype train moving, we made a new trailer for you fine folks :)

Launch Date Announced: August 30th

You will be able to try and reach The Final Station on August 30th! To celebrate, I wrote up an extensive blog post with new gameplay details on the PlayStation Blog

The Final Station is our first ever multi-platform release, and we're all freaking out a little bit. We'll be launching on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One at once.

Snipped from the PlayStation blog post so you get an idea of what to expect:

Whenever we show The Final Station at preview events, the initial reaction is usually comparing it with the movie Snowpiercer (Great movie, by the way) — which makes me laugh as the game’s designer created the game without watching it. A few minutes into the demo people understand that this is a very deceptively challenging game.

In The Final Station, you travel through a dying world on a train. You look after your passengers, keep the train operational, and explore mysterious abandoned stations where you find supplies and more survivors and encounter enemies.

A Deceptively Challenging Game

The difficulty of the game comes from its station design — you never see what’s behind a locked door and are always running low on supplies. If you use up that last medkit on yourself, odds are one of your survivors will die due to injuries. If they die on your train (during travels between stations), you can loot them for a small reward. However, if you get them to their destination — they will give you a much more tangible reward (Maybe an upgrade for your gun?).

Players Brace For Attack Before Opening Every Door

Watching players brace themselves before opening up a door is my favorite moment as a spectator. You’re constantly low on ammo and medkits, and have to be tactical about approaching enemies. They will come at you in groups, and a good way to counter them is by throwing certain objects (You can pick up boxes… or toilets) at fast-running enemies and then tactically headshot others.

Gameplay Part 1: Exploring Abandoned Stations

The first part of the game is exploring abandoned stations where you loot, rescue survivors, and encounter enemies. Let’s talk about that. You start off with a pistol and a melee attack. The melee is useful for taking out single enemies, but you will need the pistol for taking out fast-runners, armored enemies, and I won’t spoil the rest.

The goal in each Abandoned Station is to find as much loot as you can, rescue all of the survivors, and make it back in one piece. Usually your train will dock at the station and get locked with a passcode. This passcode can be found somewhere at the station. And don’t worry, there are no escort missions for survivors — they make their own way back to the train.

Gameplay Part 2: The Train & Inhabited Stations

Between Abandoned Stations, you need to ensure your train is operational and your survivors are well taken care of. With the loot that you gathered you can craft ammo and medkits, so it’s a good idea to explore stations.

Choo-Choo!

The game itself consists of five chapters. In-between chapters you visit inhabited stations where you can upgrade your gear and get more of the story.

I’m super happy to announce that The Final Station is coming to PS4 on August 30. We’re doing a launch event at PAX West in Seattle where we’ll be giving away thousands of exclusive… train whistles. Seriously. Come grab yours from the abusively orange booth that you absolutely cannot miss.
