The Giant of Torridge Island

July Update

This months update includes the first new tribe added to the game! The blue tribe lives in snowy biomes, and as such a snowy island map has been added to the game.

This Update includes:
-Blue Villagers
-A new map for free play mode "Shebbear"
-Penguins (and a corresponding encyclopedia article)
-More Sound FX's
-Updated Physics
-A new Achievement
-Sheep no longer toss objects 20ft in the air
-More narration dialogue

Sorry for the delay to this update, the aim will still be to get an update out every month but I guess real life can get in the way sometimes. Just know that it isn't creative burnout or anything like that, as whenever I get some free time I'm feverishly working on new content.

See you hopefully next month as an update for the villagers AI is planned, which will include new ways for them to interact with the Giant, the environment, and even other tribes!

May Mid-Month Progress Update

Welcome to the mid-month review for May. Small updates have been made throughout the past few weeks and these small tweaks will continue on a regular basis.

One patch that is still in the works is reworking the physics to be more dynamic. This is a bigger task than was anticipated as it requires a complete overhaul to how picking up and dropping objects works, so it’s being worked on but no improvements will be seen until everything is fully implemented and works to a good standard.

On the more exciting side, in a couple weeks will be the first major content expansion, adding a new tribe and map to the game, so stay tuned!

As always thanks for following the project and I hope to make the game live up to its’ fullest potential.

Patch Notes V0.1.3

Mid-Month review will be released soon, just a small update for now:

  • New Articles in the encyclopedia covering materials, wildlife, villagers and farms.
  • How many tears / stars until the giant grows is now displayed on the HUD.

Patch Notes v0.1.2

First of many small patches to be released in the next few weeks as discussed in the mid-month update.

  • Added the ability for players to rebind keys for picking up and attacking objects.
  • Added the ability for players to invert the Y axis (affects both mouse and game-pad inputs).

April Mid-Month Progress Update

Welcome to the first mid-month progress update! In these updates I'll go over everything I've been working on recently, talk about any updates going live and what the plan for the big update at the end of the month will be.

But since The Giant of Torridge Island has just launched i'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has played the game, left feedback or even just wish-listed the game. The feedback I've received has been incredibly helpful as this is my first early access release, and although part of me thinks maybe I should've held off on the release a little longer, hearing the thoughts of real people has made me all the more motivated to get this project where it needs to be.

Since there has only been a few days since the game went live there isn't too much in terms of exciting updates to talk about today, however an update has just gone live which includes the following:

  • The encyclopedia has been added along with a couple articles going over the controls and game basics. The encyclopedia will be added to regularly with articles talking about almost everything you made need to know about the games story and mechanics.
  • Slight tweak to the controls, the Giant will now rotate quicker when at a standstill.

At this point i'd usually go over my plans for a big content expansion at the end of the month, however after hearing feedback i'm going to focus the next few weeks on game feel rather than creating additional content. This will be delivered through small and regular patches that hope to improve the audio, animations, physics and controls of the game as to be completely honest, it was something I had slightly neglected pre-launch.

There will still be an end of the month review, however there won't be a big content update to go alongside it. If there is anything else you'd like to see changed, improved or added as always don't hesitate to post it in the community tab or to leave a review.

Thanks again for supporting the project and hopefully there will be some more... exciting news to share soon :)
