V1.6 Patch Release Notes

Game Difficulty Adjustments

  • Added “Tutorial Book” located in Naomi’s home to allow players to revisit past tutorials.
  • Adjusted rewards for Douglas’ sheep race side quest as follows:
    Trial 1 Clear Rank 3 £50→£60
    Trial 2 Clear Rank 1 £450→£250
    Trial 2 Clear Rank 2 £300→£180
    Trial 2 Clear Rank 3 £150→£80
    Trial 3 Clear Rank 1 £750→£350
    Trial 3 Clear Rank 2 £500→£200
    Trial 3 Clear Rank 3 £250→£100
  • Adjusted the number of Emokes received for certain objects.
  • Increased the number of rats around the area during “Running, Leaping, Hopping Shoes” quest in Prologue 2.
  • Removed previous fix that allowed players to own increased quantities of “Badass Jacket”, “Badass Shoes”, and “Badass Trousers”.


Bug Fixes (Quests)

  • (PS4 Exclusive) Fixed issue where the drinking battle with Vicar Macauley in Route A’s main quest fails to progress.
  • (PS4 Exclusive) Fixed issue where the drinking battle with Pauline in climax’s main quest fails to progress.
  • Fixed issue where Henry’s side quest 2 fails to progress.
  • Fixed issue where the quest titled “Secrets of the Happiest Town in the World” remains in quest tab after the ending.


Other Bug Fixes (Major)

  • Fixed issue that prevents objects placed in player’s garden from being stored in storage after upgrading garden.
  • Reduced the increased of storage space after unlocking the outdoor campground from 50 to 14.
  • Fixed issue where opening the storage menu when the storage capacity exceeds 150 causes the game to freeze.
  • Fixed issue where message allowing players choose fails to be displayed after picking up item when inventory is full (all 100 slots filled) and the item picked up is automatically lost.
  • Fixed issue where the player, in cat form, jumps through buildings and walls when exiting cardboard box.


Other Bug Fixes (Minor)

  • Fixed translation mistakes.
  • Fixed issue where Clay’s name is displayed as “Naomi” during normal conversations.
  • Fixed issue where photo tag is not displayed for the fireplace in the Witch’s room.
  • Fixed issue that prevented players from deleting the default photo after uploading it onto Flamingo.
  • Fixed issue where the suburb inn keeper’s name is displayed as “Morris” during conversations.
  • Fixed issue where an error is displayed if the suburb inn keeper is not specified.
  • Fixed issue where some items on the traders’ shop pages show an excessively large inventory number.

As we continue to monitor player feedback, one recurring theme we realized was the inability to revisit the tutorial text/information later in the game.

Unfortunately, the game does not contain a function that fixes this issue. As such, we would like to share some screenshots of the tutorial text here for your reference.

It may be a little inconvenient but we hope this will be helpful.

V1.5 Patch Release Notes

Please find the various fixes and improvements featured in Patch V1.5 listed below.

Game difficulty adjustments:

  • Route A: Adjusted stage display during the third trial of the “A Knight’s Trials” main quest.
  • Adjusted difficulty level of the drinking battles.
  • Adjusted the number of Emokes received for certain photographs and photographs that feature Hotwords.
  • Adjusted rewards for side quests and shrine missions.


Bug Fixes (Quests)

  • Fixed locator when looking for “Small Animal Hide” during the “Running, Leaping, Hopping Shoes” quest in Prologue 2.
  • Fixed issue where the “Running, Leaping, Hopping Shoes” quest fails to progress if the player has already purchased the “Special Running Shoes (Size S)” before starting the quest.
  • Made adjustments to Emma’s side quest so that the photo spot locator stays displayed until the players passes the photo to Emma.


Bug Fixes (Other)

  • Fixed issue where the camera rotation settings are not reflected during first person mode.
  • Fixed issue where the scent of Martha and Elizabeth from the main quest remains after the quest is finished.
  • Fixed issue where the photography tag for the “Naomi Doll” (side quest reward) was not set up properly.
  • Fixed issue where the game freezes when trying to exchange items with NPC traders.


Bug Fixes (Steam Ver. Only)
*Please note that the following fixes are only applied to the Steam version in this patch, they will be applied to the console versions in the future.

The Good Life to Release on October 15th, 2021

Hi all,

Swery, the creator of Deadly Premonition, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, and The Missing, and his team at White Owls, along with Yukio Futatsugi, creator of Panzer Dragoon, Phantom Dust, and CEO of Grounding Inc., have the pleasure of announcing that The Good Life is releasing on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on October 15th, 2021.

Vegetarian Menu!



After last month's update, we got some feedback from backers who wanted to see some more vegetarian menu items, which we took to heart. It would be difficult for us to add a whole bunch of new items at this point, but we decided to add V marks next to items on the menu that are vegetarian, just like on real menus.





We weren't able to get to the level of detail necessary to work in a significant amount of proper vegan menu items, so we had to give up on that. But remember, this isn't the middle of London or San Francisco - it's Rainy Woods, a rural town out in the middle of nowhere! In that regard, we feel like we've been able to give out menus a proper dose of realism. And maybe we've even managed to create the first video game with a town that offers proper vegetarian menus...? We look forward to your feedback!

I remember when The Good Life was first announced, at a conference at PAX West way back in September 2017. I was at the conference myself, and ever since that moment I've been looking forward to the day the game would finally be released. I am extremely honored to once again receive the opportunity to work together on anther "Swery Game". We are going to put every effort into ensuring that players around the globe are able to play the best version of this game possible. We hope you'll bear with us till it's ready for release.

Dear backers,

As the release of The Good Life draws closer, we have some important news to share with everyone from whom we've received so much invaluable support for this project.

Today, we are excited to announce our new publishing partner: PLAYISM!
We've worked with them in the past, and we're thrilled to partner up with them once again to bring The Good Life to as many players as possible.



While this means our collaboration with The Irregular Corporation will be coming to an end, the decision to part ways was mutual. The Irregular Corporation has been a great partner, and we appreciate all their support and input in bringing more Britishness to Rainy Woods.

Development is in its final stretch, and we're excited to get The Good Life into your hands this Fall, as we are putting our final, but required, last touches to the game.

The Good Life | Development News | March 2021

Location, location, location!



This month, we'd like to introduce to you a bunch of the different locations you'll get to visit in The Good Life. Beautiful plains and lakes, mystical ruins and strange buildings... The Good Life is full of amazing locales! Also, if you compare this footage with footage from previous updates, you should be able to notice that we've added much more wildlife to the game, allowing you to enjoy Mother Nature even more!

The Good Life's main theme song was nominated for Best Original Song at the GANG awards!



The Good Life's main theme song, "The Good Life," was nominated for Best Original Song at the 19th GANG awards! The award's winner will be announced at 5 PM on April 28th, 2021 (NA PST) during the Gang award broadcast on Twitch.

The Good Life | Development News | February 2021

Hey folks, we wanted to start bringing our regular development news updates from our Kickstarter page for The Good Life here. These can sometimes be quite long updates or just small overviews, but they're pawesome either way!

We know this is going out in March but it is from February's Kickstarter update 😊

Team CAT and DOG Reactions



Our world is filled with cat and dog lovers. And of course, there are also some who love both equally! In The Good Life, the townspeople of Rainy Woods will give Naomi different reactions when she's a cat or dog based on what team they're on! Check the video for more info!

But that's not all! Certain townspeople also run shops and restaurants in town, and will give Naomi a discount based on how much of a devotee she is to either Team CAT or Team DOG! We think this will add another layer of fun to the game, through allowing players to strategize based on which shops they use the most. Please be nice to everyone though, regardless of what team they're on!

The Good Life has a Steam page AND a publisher!

As 2020 comes to a close we wanted to share one final big announcement with you. We’re thrilled to announce we have partnered up with SWERY & White Owls to bring The Good Life to PC & Consoles in 2021!
