Nightly Update

Hello everyone
I wanted to let you know that I will be releasing nightly build updates to steam for The Great Circle demo. These updates include a variety of changes and improvements to the game. I understand that it can be hard to keep track of all the changes so I will do my best to include patch notes for each update on steam. There's usually anywhere from 50-200 changes so I will do my best to summarize the most relevant parts in an easy-to-read format for you. NIGHTLY BUILD | January 5

  • Fixed hud showing too quickly upon first waking up. (Now: Wake...Cinematic...Hud)
  • Improved leadership system. Animals not born with leaders can now choose (Leadership is based on level, size, and personality. The next improvement will require the player to perform realistic displays of dominance within view of animals to be chosen as leaders. currently this is either yes or no. The next update will put in place a spectrum where individual members of groups can have varying levels of acceptance, and it falls on the leader to keep followers in line and continue to prove themselves most fit to be leader.)
  • Added scent exchange behavior
  • Added bonding behavior
  • Added choosing player as leader behavior
  • Added NPC counter to hud for testing(near/far)
  • Began code foundation for vocal communication airways (Ambiance)
  • Various performance improvements

ROADMAP: August 2022


This roadmap lays out developmental gains being targeted for the month of August. July was productive however not all the goals were accomplished. Not to worry! Unfinished July goals will rollover into August and the work continue around the clock!

-New Ai behavior: Show Affection

CLARIFICATIONS
-Mother npcs have switched to a new algorithm that allows them more complex behaviors, but the new system needs extensive adjustments and polish to be completely reliable. The word below the Mother is the general category of what she's thinking about at any given moment. Try to follow the mother for as long as it makes sense, abandon her if needed, she should eventually seek you out. Report any glitches such as infinite looped behavior or walking into danger to our discord to help improvement efforts. Videos or pictures are much appreciated!

KNOWN ISSUES
-Leopard hygiene stat bugged (Will hotfix, Discord notify)
-Empty spawn leads to fatal error. Exit & restart game (Will hotfix, Discord notify)
-There are some floating rocks in Central Grasslands because some terrain info got overwritten. Will restore asap.
-Built-in Photomode pics being saved to unknown location(Use Steam or Nvidia Ansel for now)

CLARIFICATIONS
-The daily "imperatives" on the bottom left of the hud are a daily routine and are WIP. The hud will soon update as the daily tasks are accomplished.
-Mother NPCs are meant to serve as a kind of tutorial on day 1, as the first thing she will likely do is take you to drink water when you first wake up. The rest of the first day is being ironed out with new programing.


KNOWN ISSUES
-Mother NPCs may freeze after first trip to the watering hole; their decision-making algorithm is being replaced. We'll be ironing out the new day 1 routine of mothers for the rest of the month.
-Mother npc may cut through water or choose further water, or may freeze (Fixing this soon). For the time being, simply abandon the mother if you need to.
-Pouncing some small animals may get you stuck sideways, repounce something else to correct orientation
-There are some floating rocks in Central Grasslands because some terrain info got overwritten. I'll be restoring it soon with a map update.
-Spawn error>> Fatal error, this seems to have come back (Fixing this soon)
-The Central Grasslands region recently got its terrain data overwritten and has been flattened, so if you see any floating boulders, those are hills that got erased; they will be restored asap.
-If you encounter any significant lag, go into your graphical settings, and turn down your shadows to low, then if needed turn down your view distance.
-Built-in Photomode pics being saved to unknown location(Use Steam or Nvidia Ansel for now)
