Before some of us are leaving for Gamescom to show and talk about The Great Whale Road, we're releasing the same build which we'll be taking with us to Cologne. So if something goes wrong, then we'll be complaining about the same bugs. ;)
We actually got ahead of ourselves and included a few changes that were planned for the next version.
Highlights:
Added the ability to discard items from the ship storage. No more drowning in pelts after desperately hunting for food.
Added our first character quest: Going north to Ribe and the north of Jutland.
Added outcome randomization to existing events. Life on the whale road has a few surprises left.
Added a new combat map: Forest.
Added winter art to Úlfarrsted, thus successfully reversing global warming.
Added support warcries: Lightning Fast, Calling on Óðinn.
Removed the "sleeping on the ship" screen, so you don't fall asleep while playing.
For the whole list of changes, check our post on the forum.
Early Access Dev Blog #1: The Whale Road-Map
Welcome to our first weekly Early Access dev blog post!
Firstly thanks to all our players and the community activity - great suggestions and feedback. Now it is time to look ahead, and talk about what we have planned for the next few months.
Please note that this road-map is not cut in stone. We expect that we will be updating it as we move along, and as we receive more feedback. We are aiming to release an update at the end of each month.
Patches like v0.2.1 will be the exception. In this specific case we are splitting the scope of the August release to be able to have some updates ready in time for Gamescom.
I know that this is not the the most exciting update, but gamedev is not only fun and games. ;)
The highlights in the September release will be Character Progression and a Trade System. The October release will feature the New Combat System with a new AI, as well as the 2nd and 3rd Chapters of the Danish Story.
Best.

Update v0.1.1: The Early Access 'Mini Patch'
We ran into some issues trying to submit a 32-bit build to Steam yesterday, and since we fixed that, we took the opportunity to squeeze some small quick fixes in there as well.
Here is the list of changes:
Added a 32-bit build of the game. Steam will automatically download the 32-bit or 64-bit build according to your system.
Fixed some text strings, because working long hours made us see double.
Fixed the Ship Durability modifier, so when we say your ship gets smashed, we mean it.
Fixed Quests not appearing on the map screen, when selecting a destination and viewing its information.
Thanks to all the early adopters for your support, we'll be providing more meatier updates and bug fixes in the coming weeks.
We are happy to announce that The Great Whale Road has passed through the gates and has entered Early Access.
We really hope you like what we have created, and we are looking forward to have you with us on this journey. Please use the Discussion Forum on the Steam Community page to provide us your feedback, inputs and critique.
We know that we have our work cut out for the next months, and we have already a content update planned, which will come out in two weeks - before Gamescom.
Please note that we will add the 32bit build tomorrow.
See you around!
Rowing hard towards Early Access - 28th of July!
Let me get the 'rowing hard, hardly rowing' joke out of the way at the start. ;)
After over a year of working on The Great Whale Road we are looking forward to share this game with you, and gather your inputs and feedback. Great to have you with us on this journey.
We have pushed this project through up and downs over the last year because we believe that you will enjoy it. There is still a lot of work ahead of us, and we are looking forward to adding features, fixing bugs and making The Great Whale Road great as we design, write, draw, and code along.
This game is being lovingly crafted by a small independent team, and it is also our debut title on Steam. The game will not be perfect from the start and we hope you will be patient with us while we get our sea legs.
If you have any upfront questions for us, just post them here and we will respond promptly.
The Danes above are keen to get stuck in! So it's time for me to get back to work.
