The Islander Devlog - The Catalog

This week's "super in-depth" devlog entry is about what we call - Item Catalog.

This little piece of HUD "ingenuity" comes from the original The Islander game. Item catalog consists of all the objects (with the exception of buildings, but that's a story for a different devlog entry) you can build on your island.

All the building objects are divided into 7 groups if you are building outside: small plants, shrubs, trees, fences, lighting, pathways, decorations.

10 groups if you are furnishing a house: seats, beds, cabinets, tables, lamps. rugs, decorations, flooring, wallpapers and windows. We'll talk more on the furnishing in the upcoming devlog posts.

That's it for today. See you next week.

The Islander Devlog - Landscape

The past week we were busy updating and improving the landscape of the island. Original idea was to have a small homogeneous island where players could build their town. However the whole map seemed a tad too repetitive and uninteresting. That's when we decided to divide the island into sort of tiny areas that where defined by different resources - so you could find bamboo forest on one part of the island and metal ore on the other.

The flat landscape looked boring as well. So we wanted to create the land with different height layers, but without limiting player's possibilities when they'd build their virtual island town. That's when the land of The Islander became a lot more cliffy. And what's the best part about cliffs? The answer is - waterfalls.

The Islander Devlog - #1 Hello

Hello Steam,

As we continue the development of The Islander: Landscape Designer and the game starts to get a shape and form, we decided it would be a good idea to start a weakly (sometimes weakly) devlog. We want every person who is interested in this game to be informed on the current state of the development, what's new been added and just to give an opportunity to learn more about this project.

We won't reveal anythin in this entry yet, since it's meant more as in introduction. So as a compensation here is .gif showing the different variations of house exterior you'll be able to play with - design your favorite combination, craft and build. Simple as that.

P.S. Don't forget to wishlist.
