The free demo for The Last Alchemist is back and ready to welcome you into a wondrous world of science and discovery. It's here for one week only, so play while you still can!
We know you had a lot of feedback after playing the Summer Game Fest demo, so we've listened and made some changes for this latest iteration. Among other items the following have been updated:
The camera and movement have been improved - please also have a look in the options for the sliders that will help you create your perfect experience;
A quick sell feature is available - you can use E to sell items from inventory, in addition to the drag and drop option;
An autofill feature is available - you can use E to fill slots automatically, in addition to the drag and drop option;
Some of the objectives have been re-worked so they are easier to follow;
An introduction was added and the tutorial has been re-worked;
Additional visual cues have been added to help with the display of the time system and your energy;
The time and length of monologues displayed has been optimized;
Steam Cloud saves have been added;
And a few other UI/UX changes, lighting, animation and VFXs have been added or updated as well as bug fixes, performance optimisation updates and improvements have been made!
Please note that save data from the previous demo will not be compatible with this version.

Hi aspiring alchemists,
We're happy to say that The Last Alchemist Next Fest demo is live now, go download it!
We're excited to hear what you have to say so drop us a line in comments after you've played and don't forget that this demo is only available until June 26th!
Please note not everything in the demo is final and items may change before the game's release. Some glitches, bugs or issues may also still pop up as this is only a pre-release demo!

Meet the Agari!
Welcome Alchemists!
Any great alchemist knows hard work cannot be handled alone - that's why we've been working on creating our mushroom friends, known as the Agari!
Our aim was to create not only one companion, but a whole local civilisation of sentient mushroom creatures to make the World feel more alive. They may look cute, but they hold a lot of dark secrets!
You must work to earn their invaluable trust - you will need it on your ongoing journey ahead.

The first two Agari you will meet on your adventures!
This adorable duo will be your first chance to get to know your new friends, they spend most of their time in the observatory. Make sure to introduce yourself, they will be sure to give a helping hand.
Vibrant, colourful creatures are born just from a few lines like these!
(And, of course, our entire concept art folder is filled with these fun-guys...)
For the World to truly feel alive, the expressions of the Agari were very important to us - to the point where even in black & white, you can read their emotions.
When you enter The Last Alchemist, we needed the Agari to maintain their cute, approachable look whilst also showcasing their distrust and dislike towards you. We need the player to want to work hard to win them over, so equal balances of cute and dislike were necessary!

It's been a little over a week since we announced The Last Alchemist at gamescom and it's been an exciting time for us as we got to see everyone's reactions!
We really appreciate your support so far and we hope to share some more insights into the game, its world and gameplay soon, but until then, if you haven't already checked out our trailer, please see it below:
The Last Alchemist is set in the superstitious heart of 17th century Europe when Alchemy is a mad new practice to be feared and forbidden. The Inquisition, a group of fanatical lawmakers with rising power, condemns Alchemy as heresy and intends to root out and punish Alchemists as the world's most dangerous heretics.
As an Apprentice with a knack for unruly experimentation, you must master Alchemy in a world that despises it. Take on the mantle of your late mentor and inherit Old Imperial Star Observatory, a laboratory equipped with all the marvels, mechanisms and knowledge you need to become the new Master Alchemist.
