Patch Notes for v1.0.5 + Release Demo Now Live!

He'ya gang! Sorry for the late announcement, but here are the patch notes for v.1.0.5 !

  • Fixed all reported branch tree nodes that were not unlocking.
  • Fixed a couple of mismatched VA lines.
  • Fixed a few dangling italic tags.
  • Fixed an achievement that was impossible to unlock due to a wrong condition.
  • Fixed a couple of wrong conditions at Chapter 7 (both text and branch tree).
  • Improved the N scene at Chapter 1.
  • Implemented a handle that prevents the game from getting stuck at the Disclaimer page if your PC/device improperly shuts down.
  • Implemented 4k HD resolution 2560x1440 & 3840x2160, although this is still in beta. Please let us know if you find any problems with these resolutions!
  • Implemented a fix that causes the save data to be wiped when you exit the game (only affects new players). v1.0.5 shouldn't have this problem anymore, but in case you want to recover your old save files, please e-mail john@yangyangmobile.com and we'll help you sort it out!

Future Fixes


Here are the things we're continuously improving, and might take some time to be 100% resolved:

  • Grammar and VA mismatch with the text.
  • Dangling italic tags.
  • Lines that don't have VA.
  • Branch tree nodes not unlocking (only a few left!)

Release Demo (Chapter 1) Now Available!


For those who are still on the fence if they should buy the game, we have released the full Chapter 1 as a demo for you to try! Hopefully you'll like it! ^^

What about Music Room?


We plan to release a soundtrack DLC of the game in the near future, and the Music Room will unlock if you purchase the DLC. We will also provide an MP3 or WAV (not sure yet) version, so you can also listen to it even if you're not playing the game :)

Backers who pledged for Digital Deluxe and above will receive the soundtrack DLC as part of their campaign rewards!

Big Patch Notes for v1.0.2!

Hello gang!

We'll be pushing out a new patch today (v.1.0.2) that addresses the following things:

Polishing & Proof-reading



We are replaying the entire game and we're adding some more polishing/proof-reading to every scene. Because Chapters 6 and 7 are SO HUGE with lots and lots of combinations, the extra pass of polishing might take some time (if not months), so please expect frequent patches from us!

Branching Tree & Loading Save Files



We are aware that the branching trees of 6 and 7 are lagging. That's because they're super long. To begin with, we ourselves didn't expect the game to blow up like this, so the system was unable to handle it properly.

Our programmers have currently implemented a fix in this patch. Loading saved files should be faster now. But the compromise is opening the branch tree for the first time will be a bit slow (might take a couple of seconds). But once you re-open them it should be fast already. :) Switching from one branch tree chapter to another would also take time.

This is the best fix we can think of so far, but our technical director is still experimenting/thinking of ways on how to improve the player experience.

Branching Tree Nodes not unlocking



Chapters 6 and 7 have 4000 branch tree nodes combined, all of which we are manually unlocking via script. If you find a node that doesn't light up, please let us know ASAP so we can investigate and patch it on our end (please enable the "show debug info" and send us the scene no. + line no.)

Please take note that if you have a save file that has a problematic node, even if we patch it, it still wouldn't be unlocked when you reload it. Instead, you'll have to reload the previous scene that has a working node, and skip the part where your save file is, and then replace that save file.

Voice Acting & Epilogues



This patch should also fix a couple of errors with voice acting. We are aware that some lines are still unvoiced, and they will be patched soon as well!

Any problems regarding the Epilogues should also be fixed now! Otherwise, please let us know!

  • All Kickstarter/Indiegogo/Paypal backers who pledged for a copy of the game should’ve been given a key 2 days ago. If you’re a backer but hasn’t received your key, please message us ASAP!

  • We didn’t wipe your save files; however, we did a lot of major bug fixes with Chapters 6 and 7, so some of your save files for those chapters might’ve been corrupted. Please disregard those saves and just replace them with a new one. We apologize for any inconvenience this brought!

  • The Letter is a huge game, so there’s a chance some bugs might’ve slipped past us during testing. Please help The Letter become a better game by reporting those! You can message us privately, or post in the Bug Reports thread we made at the Steam discussions.

The wait is almost over! Only 2 days left until #TheLetterVN's full release on Steam! :) We'd like to thank you all once again for making The Letter a reality!



Steam Keys



As of this writing, we have sent out early access Steam keys to everyone who pledged for a copy of the game! If you haven't received your key, please let us know ASAP so we can sort it out!

Otherwise, we hope you guys will have fun with the visual novel! Don’t forget to let us know what you think by leaving us a review! We’re always excited to hear from you!

A few reminders:


  • Chapter 5 onwards is still on its beta phase, and we strongly advise against playing these chapters for now (it will be updated soon before launch date!). Chapters 1-4, on the other hand, are already in their fully playable states and covers 15-20 hours of game time (out of 30-50 hours, depending on reading speed)!

  • (Related to 1st bullet) Because the build currently uploaded on Steam is still the beta version, there's a risk that your save files may be deleted/wiped upon the game's full launch this 24th July, to ensure a clean slate and that it runs smoothly for everyone. The wipe is not guaranteed as it will largely depend on the seriousness of the bugs we have yet to find on Chapters 5-7, but just a heads-up, nevertheless. We apologize beforehand for any inconvenience!

  • Please help us improve the game by reporting bugs! You can post it here, or you can also message us privately via our social media channels.

  • DRM-free copies of the game will come months after the launch on Steam. But rest assured that you will also receive copies of it! Make sure to keep an eye out for another email from us!

  • Please be aware that the game touches on mature themes that others may find disturbing, offensive, and/or triggering. For the full list of our content advisory, please click here!

  • Should you decide to write a piece on it or stream it, feel free to shoot us an email for any questions and we’ll be happy to answer them! Our only request is for live streams and recordings of the game to be uploaded only on or after the 24th, due to the nature of the game.

Development + Release Update

Hello gang! :) This is an important update because we will discuss our current progress during the last leg of development, as well as the game's release date.

I. Development Update:

All writing and major art assets are done! The last roadblocks we have to face are the scripting of the final two chapters, voice acting and quality assurance. Oh, and getting approved by Steam once we submit the final build to them.

We can have everything squared out by this month, which leads us to…



II. Release Date:

Even though the game will be finished this June, we will not be releasing it this month. We’re estimating the full game to be ready by late June, which is around the Steam Summer Sale. We do not want to release at the same time as one of Steam’s biggest seasonal sales.

Of course, it also came to our mind to just rush the game’s development. Meaning, release it before the Steam Summer Sale drops (no VA & very rough/unfinished scripting of the last 2 chapters) and just patch the missing features/fixes within the first week of launch, hoping nobody has gotten that far yet. But this is going to be too chaotic, and in the end, we decided not to compromise the game’s quality on Day 1.

While we still can’t promise anything, the game will most likely be released in July. We have a magic date we’re looking forward to, but we’re not going to disclose it until we’re sure that it’s confirmed (Steam has approved our final build, and that everything is working/no game breaking bugs). As long as we don’t hit any other major roadblock, July is a positive month for us.
