The Appraiser Demo Out now!

Hello everyone and happy Next Fest! Welcome to The Appraiser Demo!

Just so everyone knows, this demo is a little bit different from the type of demos you will typically be playing at this time. This demo is best described as an audio tour of the game.

Due to the nature of The Appraiser, it was rather difficult to create a standard demo for the experience. Instead, the gallery has been turned into a small tour with guided speakers that will tell you a bit more about the game. So think of this almost like a host presenting you with a film you are going to watch on TV rather than the movie itself.

That said, you can freely explore the gallery and listen to the tour and learn if The Appraiser is the game for you. If you like what you see, please follow and add The Appraiser to your wish list!

The Appraiser is planned to (hopefully) release this summer!

Small Notes:

-The layout of the gallery will be slightly different in the released game.

-Some paintings will have some changes in the released game.

-Look out for notes as well!

New Game (+ Health Update)

Hi everyone

I hope you're all doing well. It has been a long time since I have given an update on things I am working on, but with the Steam Next Fest coming up soon I figured I would share what I have planned. But first some other news.

To cut directly to the chase: I’ve been having a pretty rough go at it health wise. I won’t go that much into detail, but one diagnosis found a link to another and unfortunately this led to the one you really don't want to hear - I have cancer.

The bright side of this is that it was caught early and is possibly the most survivable cancer there is. I am set for surgery relatively soon. Just to be clear what the outlook is: I will be ok. There is no reason to be alarmed.

That said, there is no such thing as “good cancer” and I simply wish I never had it. Cancer wasn’t the only thing found wrong with me either and it has been incredibly stressful dealing with what has seemed to be nonstop health issues progressively getting worse and worse for months, on top of now knowing I’ve been suffering from them unknowingly for years.

These issues did lead me down to what I am here to share with you today however. That would be my next game: The Appraiser. After what seemed like a nonstop gauntlet of bad news, it made me want to make something different. I was working on other projects but it soon became clear I would never have time or money to make them how I wanted. I was struggling a lot trying to think of what to do, but I decided making this experimental game was something that spoke to me and I hope will speak for some of you.

I do want to say that The Appraiser will probably not be for everyone. It is highly subjective and is purposely abstract in its storytelling. It is an overall short experience but has the goal for everyone to come out with a different opinion on what it all means.

The Appraiser tells the story of an art gallery and its curator. You, the art appraiser, have been tasked with selling pieces of art to new owners. However, the choice of which piece of art to sell is up to you. They come from different artists and have different prices and also different stories. You have the ability to capture a small peak of a painting’s artist's thoughts on their work. With it, it may change your perspective on each work of art and which to sell. Of course this power is limited and some judgments will be all on your own.

I am hoping to release The Appraiser sometime this summer. I really hope I am not announcing it too soon. However, a very short and unique demo is being planned for the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June. If you are interested in The Appraiser or highly experimental narrative games, I hope you will wish list the game below!

Thanks so much and I will see you in June!

The List: 2 Months Later & What's Next?

2 months ago on June 30th, I released my first game: The List.

I first want to say thank you to everyone who has played the game. The List has done so much better than I ever could've imagined. I was so glad to see players partake in rather lengthy discussions about the story of Jordan Grady and what it all meant. That might seem small, but seeing just how many people wanted to talk about the game after the credits rolled meant a lot. I figured if no one wanted to discuss the game, it would've meant the story was boring or nothing worthy of talking about. The amount of discussion was honestly so much more than I expected and I've read every comment, post, and review.

About 2 weeks before I launched The List I remember thinking about how lucky I would be to even have 100 people play my game, but little did I know my expectations would be blown vastly out of the water. Compared to other indies, The List was easily only a small splash in an ocean of other incredible games, but on my own personal level and what I was originally expecting the outlook to be, the success has been incredible. Thanks to each and everyone of you for playing.

Now, some of you may be wondering what I plan on doing next. Well I am glad you (maybe) asked!

Working in creative is tough. Really tough. The process of coming up with new ideas, stories, and worlds is not an easy task. So I do want to make clear that everything I am saying here can easily be subject to change.

Yes. I am working on a new game. Not all the fine details are there yet, but at the moment I do feel I have a strong foundation of a new story I want to tell. If you enjoy psychological thrillers and have a taste for the downright eerie, I think I may have something for you in the future.

This project will easily be more ambitious than The List. It may be a good long while until it (hopefully) releases. But if everything goes to plan, I think it will be something very, very special.

If you'd like to see future updates on this project (whenever that may be) I would suggest following The List on Steam if you have not yet already, and to following me on Twitter @DirectlyDaniel

Again, I want to thank all of you for playing The List. It means more to me than you could ever imagine.

Oh, and one last thing:
