Hello our dear Desert Dwellers!
A little update for you on this wonderful Sunday!


As always, you can access this version by right clicking on TLD in Steam, select properties, then select betas, then select the upcoming version test.
! WARNING ! - This update now breaks old saves and saved cars!

V2024.11.10_test:

  • Parts and Attachables are now using the same script!
    (This should make things easier and more stable in the future, as well as open up new possibilities!)
  • But be aware this also now broke old saves, and saved cars!
  • Fixed sometimes not being able to drive forward until releasing and pressing forward again.
    This was a long standing and very annoying thing, and is now gone.
  • Cars no longer hitch when pausing the game. This was again a bug that was annoying players for a
    while now, it is now also gone.
  • Fixed Reflections not turning on-off based on distance
  • Settings files and saved cars in the dev menu are now saved with JsonUtility
    (They should be more tolerant to changes, and are more readable)
  • Fixed sometimes dropping stuff instead of equipping
  • Added item spawn history in dev menu showing the last 40 items ( no, you can't clear it )
  • Tape measure sticks to surfaces a little bit more reliably!
  • Added toggle to dev menu to save using Json
    (It is now possible to load both Json and Binary which was used so far)
  • Added buttons to dev menu to delete not generated POI and destroyed Ojb data
    (POI=Buildings, Obj=cacti, rocks...)
  • Autosave is a lot less noticable!
  • Stabilized some starting item spawn things
  • Buried stuff spawns again

  • Fixed teleporting far away if the held tape measure is stuck to a gib that dissappears
  • Start items are saved on other maps! (func_pushables in bsp maps too)

  • Fixed buildings not spawning in the first chunk

  • Fixed attached stuff to surfaces not being in the same place in multiplayer
  • Some worn concrete material is now less shiny and is more bumpy!
  • Fixed not having a Start House on Village map
  • Light switch and such Save and Sync on FPS Dungeon map
  • The FPS Dungeon Map now has corridors, rooms, has enemies, and has imaginary goals : Kill all the
    enemies, find the computer and bring it back to the start room! You can have fun with this in
    multiplayer also!
  • We have a new shelf with Physics Lock system, it is in the starting room in the FPS Dungeon Map,
    but you can also spawn it in the normal game mode using the Dev Menu (it will spawn naturally
    later)!

Hello guys! Here is today's update for you!

  • All Headlights and Bulbs can be turned on by hand when they aren't in their slot
    (Yes, later they will need batteries for that, but we don't have those yet)
  • Metal bar got thin Physics Lock around it
  • Pumpkin got better and it is possible to turn it on-off again
  • Fixed explosive stuff not exploding when shot (like paint can)
  • Fixed very weak guns not being able to destroy bulbs at all
  • Fixed bulb and big mirror slices being purple

Hello dear survivors! We have another update for you!

You know why? Because we always got to try! Update 'till you die!

V2024.10.10_test:


  • Added cacti, rocks and such!
  • Draw Distance Setting Works Again
  • Removed Distant Terrain Setting, now its On if the Draw Distance is not Minimum
  • Tumbleweed only spawns in the desert
  • Fixed wells' hole being next to it when not spawned next to a building
  • Heathaze at the edge of nearby objects maybe a bit better
  • Fixed buildings not saving their state if you go very very far and save-load twice
  • Removed distance limit from F4 Drop Cam
  • Fixed F4 Drop Cam getting destroyed if a car it's parented to is destroyed
  • Slapped some try-catch in the save part of the code, so maybe saving will work even if there is an error

  • Physics Lock now works in trunks and such even with opened or missing trunk
  • With the Developer Menu it is now possible to bring cars from different saves:

1. Look at a car

4. Click Save Car button

It gets Saved with all it's Parts, things that are Attached to it

Hotfix V2024.09.30b_test and previous patchnotes

Hello there!

Aaand another update!

You will find it in the "beta - Upcoming version test" branch.
(Right click on TLD, properties, betas, beta - Upcoming version test)


Please always make sure that you are running the latest possible version, because if this is not the case, it may cause problems in multiplayer.

After this update or later hotfixes, old saves and mods may become unusable in beta.

V2024.09.30b_test:

  1. - Fixed save bug
  2. - Fixed ignition, shift when sitting next to eachother ( Driver has priority ofcourse )
  3. - Client can spawn stuff, and you can now correctly see the client manufacturing poop!
  4. - Added 3 rotating log files in the Documents\TheLongDrive
    (log1 is the latest, log3 is the oldest )
  5. - Added Console To Dev Menu to see error messages at runtime
  6. - Fixed MP menu opening with T while using the computer


And we show 1 picture for you, you can see Genesz trying to explain me how the new road system will work, we discussed and figured out how to do a big main road, to witch all the smaller roads and paths will connect.



So everyone can be happy with it now, if someone wants to he or she can just follow the main road, others can scavenge the more smaller roads also in the future, we are now trying to make this work in the following days, and after that we try to put the nature elements back, and meanwhile trying to squeeze some more performance out of the game, and fix some issues with those ( like the draw distance setting witch is not working now ), and all that.
After that is finished, we want to fine tune multiplayer ( particle effects, explosions, more small synchronizations , and all that ). Oh and we need the bunnies for multiplayer too!

1. Fixed not being able to stop using the computer
( Would be a nice thing to fix this in real life also aHAHAHA)

( Would be a nice thing if this would be the opposite in real life )

the main road, but you still we be able to search and scavenge around other "smaller" roads and
pathways also, and we need them in the future because of the cities, villages, and other interesting
places.

2. Added Lobby Name Filter
(hopefully it will find the desired lobby
even if it is outside the 50 limit)
3. Lobby List shows more data (map, game version)

6. Disabling Distant Terrain now actually disables it again

Anniversary Beta Update


Happy anniversary for everyone.

We have been fighting together in the desert for five years now.
Who would have thought that when about six years ago the three brothers decided to make a game together that not many had thought of until then.
They wanted to make a game that works according to their own vision and will not be another game on the assembly line that will then be forgotten.
I don't think even they thought that they would reach so many players with this game.

However, we hope that the wait was at least a little worth it.
It is not certain that all changes are obvious, but Genesz has had a very hard time to get to this point with the development.

Since there are some major changes "under the hood", this update will be available in beta for now.
You will find it in the "beta - Upcoming version test" branch.

  • It is possible that the terrain is generated beyond the realistic limits. It is still heavily under development.
  • There are currently no cellars or basements in any of the buildings.
  • There are currently no cactus and electric poles.
  • Dont save when you sit in a vehicle because it cause some error.
  • After this update or later hotfixes, old saves and mods may become unusable in beta.


Please always make sure that you are running the latest possible version, because if this is not the case, it may cause problems in multiplayer.

There are still a lot of bugs that we know about and we will fix them, and of course we look forward to your comments. So prepare for fixes in the next days or weeks or maybe years... :D

NEW DISCORD SERVER

Hello there!

As you've all noticed, the server was raided and destroyed.

After assessing the damage, we have concluded the current server is too wrecked to salvage, and we can't be sure it's even entirely safe to use anymore.
In light of this we are currently working on a new server built from a month old template of this server, it will be identical, however the history and content is permanently lost unfortunately.

A sign of life

No, we're not dead at all. And neither does Long Drive.

We did not expect that it would be easy to rewrite the main parts of the game, but even so, it is much more difficult than we expected. Genesz is sweating blood and fighting to get the update ready for you as soon as possible, but he won't release it half-finished. We don't know how long it will be until it is ready, but once it is ready, we hope to be able to say that it was worth the wait.

The landscape generation is the most difficult part of the whole process, we have to prepare it first so that we can adjust to it and place the possible new buildings and possible settlements.
Some new mechanics are also expected, and if we don't end up dying until then, maybe a more functioning multiplayer will be ready.

In the meantime, please be patient, the game will continue to receive updates, unless Genesz starts making kitty videos.

Anniversary 2023



We are silent for a reason, trust me! 😃



But, if you are bored, you can follow Gus on his Youtube channel, if you are missing the good old Chat 'till you Die vibes!
He just started the channel a few days ago, don't expect anything fancy, or you get your armpit kicked!

We are still working on the game base codes. Its's a very hard work because anything you change in the game's old code could break everything else.
It is a very meticulous job to track down all the bugs and therefore it is a rather slow process since Genesz is the only one who coding.
We are working on a lot of new things, but the main direction is still the renovation of the game's new terrain generation and the optimization of the game, which is not easy due to the above.
Please be patient, this is a small project of a few people.
As soon as the update becomes available, you will be the first to know about it.
