The Long Return

Weekend updates & new features

Hi friends,

It has been a busy weekend for me, I've fixed a couple of small bugs and added a lot of configuration options, since that was by far the most requested feature.

New Features:

  • Inverted Y setting.
  • Custom keybindings.
  • Camera (mouse) sensitivity setting (Missing translations for now).

Updates

  • Increased Jump length by 20%.

As always thanks for reporting bugs, it makes my life a lot easier since I cannot find them all by myself :)

Hopefully all new features will work nicely and not cause any new issues. Have a great weekend!

Best,
Max N

Survived day 1

The first day has passed and I am overall really happy with how it went. Some minor bugs were found, but quite quickly resolved.

First off, a big thanks to everyone who reported bugs, you are the best!

New Features:

  • Inverted Y - you can now go to settings and choose to invert the Y Axis!

Upcoming Features:

  • Keybindings menu - Implemented in debug version and awaiting translations, should be live in a day or two.
  • Some more input related improvements.

Bug fixes:

  • Gem collection achievement counts were corrected
  • Several colliders were adjusted
  • Save/Load bug was resolved
  • Other tiny fixes

Crazy first day, especially when you have to work your day job 9-5, but I came out alive :)

Thanks for all the support! And if you enjoyed the game, please do leave a review, it really helps.

Best,
Max N

The Long Return is finally released!

My dream has always been to one day release my own game, finally the day is here!

Today I release The Long Return on Steam after around two years of spending evenings and weekends working on this project. I am excited, nervous and proud. I am not hoping for any crazy sales numbers or the like, I just hope that the people that do buy it enjoy the game.

The main purpose of this project has always been to learn, and boy have I learned a thousand things and more during development. I look forward to using my new knowledge in my next project, which will be a bit more ambitious.

This project helped me realize how much I love making games, every second of it, even the frustrating and hair-pulling ones. I am now surer than ever that this is what I want to do for a living one day; hopefully I can make that reality eventually.

Thank you for showing an interest in The Long Return, I hope you enjoy the game!

Release date announced!

I am so happy and excited to finally have a set date! October 2nd at 4pm .

The work I've done these last few weeks have improved the game a lot, and it's finally at a point where I believe it's ready for release!

The game will be set at $9.99 and it will launch with a 10% discount!

I hope to use these last few weeks before release to add a little more flair to the game, and maybe create a dev-log video or two. I also want to play through it a few more times, just in case I find some small bugs :)

A big thanks to those of you have followed development, and I truly hope you will enjoy the game!

/Max

Progress update 25/8

What a week. I had some really great feedback from the few testers that played the game, I had a checklist of about 60 items when I begun last week, I'm down to 6 items left now.

These remaining to-dos are quite large, and include:

  • Adding one more mechanic to my puzzleboards to remove some repetitiveness.
  • Replacing a world-puzzle with something brand new, will require me to first come up with a puzzle and then create it.
  • Improve localization
  • Add more content that rewards exploration.
  • Some performance improvements.

The last 2 weeks have seen some really important improvements to the game. It will be tough to release end of August considering the above, but since the game has taken over 2 years to make I don't think I should rush out a version I'm not happy with just to get it out 2-3 weeks earlier. I hope you all agree :)

Rest assured that every day that passes I am working my butt off getting the game ready for release, nobody wants a release more than I do, so close now, I just don't want to rush out an incomplete product.

Release closing in!

Hi everyone,

finally I am getting close to finishing the game, I am currently polishing up some things testers have found and fixing some minor bugs. It's really important to me that I release the game in a good state.

Some of you know that the initial release date was August 13th. This was a date I set 4 months ago, and since I work on this game outside of my fulltime job, planning my time can be hard. I do apologize for the delay, but it won't be a long one, I plan to release late August!

I am also happy to announce that there will be a 10% sale on the game to celebrate it's release! As a thanks to those of you who pick up the game early :)
