This November, The New California makes a year of release!
2018 was an amazing and very special year! We circulated with educational experiences of the game, and many people were able to play and talk about themes related to Lima Barreto's universe.
Brazilian culture, popular literature, black consciousness, history, and many other topics. This year, it was surprising how many of you took advantage of the game experience and brought such important discussions to all of us. We've been looking for that a lot, but the discussions you've brought have surpassed our expectations.
Next year, we will reposition some things in the game. We will seek to further enhance the cultural elements present in the game. Much more than a game, we will continue to circulate around with the mediated experiences and chats that greatly enrich the proposal.

Sao Paulo Communities Launch
Hello!
During the month of January, we were at five Sao Paulo Cultural Factories!
In these cultural centers, approximately 100 children, young people and adults took part in the launch. Thank you! In these events, we had a dramatic reading of the original text of Lima Barreto, a relaxed chat with developers and, of course, the experience with the game.
The launch of The New California is being great! Thank you to everyone who participates in this important stage. Keep playing, learning and maybe creating your own games!

It was four years of development, wich so many dedication, sweat and cofee.
Originally written by Lima Barreto, in 1910, The New California may have one of the most meaning and belonging subjects of the time that we live. Besides the greed, main subject raised by the story and the game, the original story illustrates, in a genial way, the brazilian way in dealing with everyday problems.
What would we be able to do to get rich? What have we been doing with our time, our lives?
We, as developers, did not choose this story. Was it who chose us. It is not by chance that the author is from Lima Barreto, the first black author of Brazilian Literature, who lived the history of slavery in Brazil and saw his father "liberated" in 1888 by a white princess.
The history of Lima Barreto and the context of his life reverberate all the world today. More than a hundred years after the publication of this material, we can feel the difficulties and social problems arising from our history as a people. Few, like us, have the opportunity to study and glimpse an artistic career. In addition to social injustice, the fact reverberates in the country's own cultural production, which ceases to represent the great plurality of people we have in Brazil.
While developed, the game gives its creators a unique opportunity to build knowledge. We were able to put into practice what we defended in the academy; the building of knowledge became alive.
As a result, we have reached the maximum possible limit for us! We seek shelter in the good things that we could build. The handcrafting allowed us to take care of every pixel, every word, every bit of the game. Obviously, bugs do exist, just like all limitations as artists.

Playing The New California can be a different experience from the traditional things we play. Instead of running, explore. Instead of going through the phase, think about your choices. Investigate the story, trying to understand what lies between the lines. Think with yourself and discuss it with your friends. Value the game develop process, not just the product. Exit our own wealth rush. In addition to the product, also value the development process!
